1 Corinthians 11 1 Be my imitators Μιμηταί Mimētai G3402 , even as I also [ am ] of Christ Χριστοῦ.¶ Christou G5547 . 2 Now δὲ de G1161 I praise G1867 you , that in all things πάντα panta G3956 ye are mindful of me ; and that as I have directed you , ye keep G2722 the directions. 4 Every man ἀνὴρ anēr G435 praying προσευχόμενος proseuchomenos G4336 or prophesying προφητεύων prophēteuōn G4395 , having [ anything ] on his head κεφαλῆς kephalēs G2776 , puts his head κεφαλὴν kephalēn G2776 to shame G2617 . 5 But every woman γυνὴ gunē G1135 praying προσευχομένη proseuchomenē G4336 or prophesying προφητεύουσα prophēteuousa G4395 with her head κεφαλῇ kephalēa G2776 uncovered puts her own head κεφαλὴν kephalēn G2776 to shame G2617 ; for it is G1510 one ἓν hen G1520 and the same G846 as a shaved [ woman G1135 ]. 6 For if a woman γυνή, gunē G1135 be not covered G2619 , let her hair also καὶ kai G2532 be cut off . But if [ it be ] shameful G150 to a woman γυναικὶ gunaiki G1135 to have her hair cut off or to be shaved , let her be covered G2619 . 10 Therefore ought ὀφείλει opheilei G3784 the woman γυνὴ gunē G1135 to have authority ἐξουσίαν exousian G1849 on her head κεφαλῆς kephalēs G2776 , on account G1223 of the angels ἀγγέλους. angelous G32 . 11 However πλὴν plēn G4133 , neither [ is ] woman γυνὴ gunē G1135 without man ἀνδρὸς andros G435 , nor man ἀνὴρ anēr G435 without woman γυναικὸς gunaikos G1135 , in [ the ] Lord κυρίῳ· kuriō G2962 . 12 For as the woman γυνὴ gunē G1135 [ is ] of the man ἀνδρὸς andros G435 , so also καὶ kai G2532 [ is ] the man ἀνὴρ anēr G435 by the woman γυναικός, gunaikos G1135 , but all things πάντα panta G3956 of God θεοῦ. theou G2316 . 13 Judge κρίνατε· krinate G2919 in yourselves : is G1510 it comely that a woman γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 should pray προσεύχεσθαι; proseuchesthai G4336 to God θεῷ theō G2316 uncovered ? 17 But [ in ] prescribing [ to you on ] this [ which I now δὲ de G1161 enter on ], I do not praise ἐπαινῶ epainō G1867 , [namely,] that ye come συνέρχεσθε.¶ sunerchesthe G4905 together G4905 , not for the better , but for the worse. 18 For first Πρῶτον Prōton G4413 , when ye come G4905 together συνερχομένων sunerchomenōn G4905 in assembly ἐκκλησίᾳ ekklēsia G1577 , I hear ἀκούω akouō G191 there exist G5225 divisions σχίσματα schismata G4978 among you , and I partly give credit [ to it ]. 19 For there must also G2532 be G1510 sects among you , that the approved may become γένωνται genōntai G1096 manifest among you . 21 For each one ἕκαστος hekastos G1538 in eating G2068 takes his own ἴδιον idion G2398 supper δεῖπνον deipnon G1173 before [ others ], and one G1538 is hungry πεινᾷ, peina G3983 and another drinks to excess. 22 Have ye not then houses G3614 for eating ἐσθίειν esthiein G2068 and drinking πίνειν; pinein G4095 ? or do ye despise καταφρονεῖτε kataphroneite G2706 the assembly G1577 of God θεοῦ theou G2316 , and put to shame καταισχύνετε kataischunete G2617 them who have not ? What shall I say G3004 to you ? shall I praise ἐπαινέσω epainesō G1867 you ? In this [point] I do not praise ἐπαινῶ. epainō G1867 . 25 In like manner also καὶ kai G2532 the cup ποτήριον potērion G4221 , after having supped, saying λέγων· legōn G3004 , This cup ποτήριον potērion G4221 is G1510 the new καινὴ kainē G2537 covenant διαθήκη diathēkē G1242 in my blood αἵματι· aimati G129 : this do , as often ὁσάκις hosakis G3740 as ye shall drink πίνητε, pinēte G4095 [ it ], in remembrance ἀνάμνησιν. anamnēsin G364 of me . 26 For as often ὁσάκις hosakis G3740 as ye shall eat ἐσθίητε esthiēte G2068 this bread ἄρτον arton G740 , and drink πίνητε, pinēte G4095 the cup ποτήριον potērion G4221 , ye announce the death θάνατον thanaton G2288 of the Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 , until he come ἔλθῃ.¶ elthē G2064 . 27 So that whosoever shall eat ἐσθίῃ esthiē G2068 the bread ἄρτον arton G740 , or drink πίνῃ pinē G4095 the cup ποτήριον potērion G4221 of the Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 , unworthily, shall be ἔσται estai G1510 guilty ἔνοχος enochos G1777 in respect of the body σώματος sōmatos G4983 and of the blood αἵματος aimatos G129 of the Lord κυρίου. kuriou G2962 . 28 But let a man ἄνθρωπος anthrōpos G444 prove himself , and thus G3779 eat ἐσθιέτω esthietō G2068 of the bread ἄρτου artou G740 , and drink πινέτω· pinetō G4095 of the cup ποτηρίου potēriou G4221 . 29 For [ the ] eater and drinker eats G2068 and drinks G4095 judgment κρίμα krima G2917 to himself , not distinguishing the body σῶμα sōma G4983 . 30 On this account G1223 many πολλοὶ polloi G4183 among you [ are ] weak ἀσθενεῖς astheneis G772 and infirm, and a good many G4183 are fallen asleep κοιμῶνται koimōntai G2837 . 32 But being judged G2919 , we are disciplined of [ the ] Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 , that we may not be condemned κατακριθῶμεν.¶ katakrithōmen G2632 with the world κόσμῳ kosmō G2889 . ← 1 Corinthians 10 1 Corinthians 12 → Commentaries on 1 Corinthians 11 Darby Bible — 1889 — Public Domain
