1 Corinthians 9 3 My defence to those who examine me is G1510 this : 5 have we not a right G1849 to take round a sister ἀδελφὴν adelphēn G79 [ as ] wife γυναῖκα gunaika G1135 , as also G2532 the other λοιποὶ loipoi G3062 apostles G652 , and the brethren of the Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 , and Cephas Κηφᾶς; Kēphas G2786 ? 6 Or I alone G3441 and Barnabas Βαρναβᾶς Barnabas G921 , have we not a right G1849 not to work ἐργάζεσθαι; ergazesthai G2038 ? 9 For in the law νόμῳ nomō G3551 of Moses Μωϋσέως Mōuseōs G3475 it is written G1125 , Thou shalt not muzzle κημώσεις kēmōseis G5392 the ox βοῦν boun G1016 that is treading out corn. Is God θεῷ; theō G2316 occupied about the oxen βοῶν boōn G1016 , 10 or does he say G3004 [ it ] altogether for our sakes G1223 ? For for our sakes it has been written G1125 , that the plougher should plough in hope ἐλπίδι elpidi G1680 , and he that treads out corn, in hope ἐλπίδι elpidi G1680 of partaking of [ it ]. 11 If we have sown G4687 to you spiritual πνευματικὰ pneumatika G4152 things G3173 , [ is it a ] great μέγα mega G3173 [thing] if we shall reap θερίσομεν; therisomen G2325 your carnal things G3173 ? 12 If others ἄλλοι alloi G243 partake μετέχουσιν, metechousin G3348 of this right G1849 over you , should not rather G3123 we ? But we have not used ἐχρησάμεθα echrēsametha G5530 this right G1849 , but we bear all things G3778 , that we may put no hindrance in the way of the glad tidings of the Christ Χριστοῦ.¶ Christou G5547 . 13 Do ye not know that they who labour [ at ] sacred ἱερὰ hi'era G2413 things eat ἐσθίουσιν; esthiousin G2068 of the [offerings offered in the ] temple ; they that attend at the altar θυσιαστηρίῳ thusiastēriō G2379 partake with the altar θυσιαστηρίῳ thusiastēriō G2379 ? 14 So also καὶ kai G2532 the Lord κύριος kurios G2962 has ordained to those that announce the glad tidings to live ζῆν. zēn G2198 of the glad tidings. 16 For if I announce the glad tidings, I have nothing to boast καύχημα· kauchēma G2745 of ; for a necessity ἀνάγκη anagkē G318 is G1510 laid upon me ; for it is G1510 woe οὐαὶ ouai G3759 to me if I should not announce the glad tidings. 17 For if I do this voluntarily , I have a reward μισθὸν misthon G3408 ; but if not of my own will , I am entrusted πεπίστευμαι. pepisteumai G4100 with an administration G3622 . 18 What is G1510 the reward μισθός; misthos G3408 then οὖν oun G3767 that I have ? That in announcing the glad tidings I make the glad tidings costless [ to others ], so G2443 as not to have made use , as belonging to me , of my right ἐξουσίᾳ exousia G1849 in [announcing] the glad tidings. 19 For being ὢν ōn G1510 free Ἐλεύθερος Eleutheros G1658 from all , I have made myself bondman to all , that I might gain κερδήσω· kerdēsō G2770 the most [possible]. 21 to those without law ἀνόμοις anomois G459 , as without law ἄνομος, anomos G459 , ( not as without law ἄνομος anomos G459 to God θεοῦ theou G2316 , but as legitimately subject to Christ Χριστοῦ, Christou G5547 ,) in order G2443 that I might gain G2770 [ those ] without law ἀνόμους. anomous G459 . 23 And I do all things πάντα panta G3956 for the sake G1223 of the glad tidings, that I may be fellow-partaker with them . 25 But every one G3588 that contends [ for a prize] is temperate in all things G3956 : they then οὖν oun G3767 indeed μὲν men G3303 that they may receive λάβωσιν, labōsin G2983 a corruptible crown στέφανον stephanon G4735 , but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore τοίνυν toinun G5106 thus G3779 run τρέχω trechō G5143 , as not uncertainly ; so I combat, as not beating δέρων· derōn G1194 the air ἀέρα aera G109 . 27 But I buffet my body σῶμα sōma G4983 , and lead it captive, lest μή mē G3361 [ after ] having preached κηρύξας kēruxas G2784 to others ἄλλοις allois G243 I should be myself rejected. ← 1 Corinthians 8 1 Corinthians 10 → Commentaries on 1 Corinthians 9 Darby Bible — 1889 — Public Domain
