Luke 7
American Standard Version
1After he had ended all his sayings in the earsG189 of the peopleG2992, he enteredG1525 into CapernaumG2584.
2And a certainG5100 centurion’sG1543 servantG1401, who wasG1510 dear unto him, wasG1510 sickG2560 and at the point of death. 3And when he heardG191 concerningG4012 JesusG2424, he sentG649 unto him eldersG4245 of the JewsG2453, askingG2065 him that he would comeG2064 and saveG1295 his servantG1401. 4And they, when they cameG3854 to JesusG2424, besought him earnestlyG4709, sayingG3004, He isG1510 worthyG514 that thou shouldest do this for him; 5for he loveth our nationG1484, and himself builtG3618 us our synagogueG4864. 6And JesusG2424 wentG4198 with them. And when he wasG1510 nowG1161 not farG3112 from the houseG3614, the centurionG1543 sentG3992 friendsG5384 to him, sayingG3004 unto him, LordG2962, troubleG4660 not thyself; for I amG1510 not worthyG2425 that thou shouldest comeG1525 under my roofG4721: 7wherefore neither thought I myself worthyG515 to comeG2064 unto thee: but sayG3004 the wordG3056, and my servantG3816 shall be healedG2390. 8For I alsoG2532 amG1510 a manG444 set under authorityG1849, having under myself soldiersG4757: and I sayG3004 to this oneG3778, GoG4198, and he goeth; and to another, ComeG2064, and he cometh; and to my servantG1401, Do this, and he doeth it. 9And when JesusG2424 heardG191 these thingsG3778, he marvelled at him, and turnedG4762 and saidG3004 unto the multitudeG3793 that followedG190 him, I sayG3004 unto you, I have not foundG2147 so greatG5118 faithG4102, no, not in IsraelG2474. 10And they that were sentG3992, returningG5290 to the houseG3624, foundG2147 the servantG1401 whole.
11And it cameG1096 to passG1096 soon afterwards, that he wentG4198 to a cityG4172 calledG2564 Nain; and his disciplesG3101 wentG4198 with him, and a greatG4183 multitudeG3793. 12NowG1161 whenG5613 he drew near to the gateG4439 of the cityG4172, beholdG2400, there wasG1510 carried out oneG3588 that wasG1510 dead, the onlyG3439 sonG5207 of his motherG3384, and she wasG1510 a widowG5503: and much peopleG3793 of the cityG4172 wasG1510 with her. 13And when the LordG2962 sawG3708 her, he had compassionG4697 on her, and saidG3004 unto her, WeepG2799 not. 14And he cameG4334 nigh and touchedG681 the bier: and the bearers stoodG2476 still. And he saidG3004, YoungG3495 manG3495, I sayG3004 unto thee, AriseG1453. 15And he that was deadG3498 sat up, and beganG757 to speakG2980. And he gaveG1325 him to his motherG3384. 16And fearG5401 tookG2983 hold on all: and they glorifiedG1392 GodG2316, sayingG3004, A greatG3173 prophetG4396 is arisenG1453 among us: and, GodG2316 hath visited his peopleG2992. 17And this reportG3056 wentG1831 forthG1831 concerningG4012 him in the wholeG3650 of Judæa, and all the regionG4066 round about.
18And the disciplesG3101 of JohnG2491 toldG518 him of all these thingsG3778. 19And JohnG2491 callingG4341 unto him twoG1417 of his disciplesG3101 sentG3992 them to the LordG2962, sayingG3004, Art thou he that cometh, or lookG4328 we for another? 20And when the menG435 wereG1510 comeG2064 unto him, they saidG3004, JohnG2491 the BaptistG910 hath sentG649 us unto thee, sayingG3004, Art thou he that cometh, or lookG4328 we for another? 21In that hourG5610 he cured manyG4183 of diseasesG3554 and plagues and evilG4190 spiritsG4151; and on manyG4183 that were blindG5185 he bestowed sight. 22And he answeredG611 and saidG3004 unto them, GoG4198 and tellG3004 JohnG2491 the thingsG3739 which ye have seenG3708 and heardG191; the blindG5185 receiveG308 their sightG308, the lameG5560 walkG4043, the lepersG3015 are cleansedG2511, and the deafG2974 hearG191, the deadG3498 are raisedG1453 up, the poorG4434 have good tidings preached to them. 23And blessed isG1510 he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumblingG4624 in me.
24And when the messengersG32 of JohnG2491 were departedG565, he beganG757 to sayG3004 unto the multitudesG3793 concerningG4012 JohnG2491, What wentG1831 ye out into the wildernessG2048 to behold? a reedG2563 shakenG4531 with the windG417? 25But what wentG1831 ye out to seeG3708? a manG444 clothed in soft raiment? BeholdG2400, they that areG1510 gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, areG1510 in kings’ courts. 26But what wentG1831 ye out to seeG3708? a prophetG4396? Yea, I sayG3004 unto you, and much more than a prophetG4396. 27This isG1510 he of whom it isG1510 writtenG1125,
28I sayG3004 unto you, Among them that areG1510 born of womenG1135 there isG1510 noneG3762 greaterG3173 than JohnG2491: yet he that isG1510 but littleG3398 in the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 isG1510 greaterG3173 than he. 29And all the peopleG2992 when they heardG191, and the publicans, justifiedG1344 GodG2316, being baptizedG907 with the baptismG908 of JohnG2491. 30But the PhariseesG5330 and the lawyersG3544 rejectedG114 for themselves the counselG1012 of GodG2316, being not baptizedG907 of him. 31Whereunto then shall I liken the menG444 of this generationG1074, and to what areG1510 they like? 32They areG1510 like unto childrenG3813 that sitG2521 in the marketplace, and call oneG240 to another; who sayG3004, We piped unto you, and ye did not danceG3738; we wailed, and ye did not weepG2799. 33For JohnG2491 the BaptistG910 is comeG2064 eatingG2068 no breadG740 nor drinkingG4095 wineG3631; and ye sayG3004, He hath a demonG1140. 34The SonG5207 of manG444 is comeG2064 eatingG2068 and drinkingG4095; and ye sayG3004, BeholdG2400, a gluttonous manG444, and a winebibber, a friendG5384 of publicans and sinnersG268! 35And wisdomG4678 is justifiedG1344 of all her childrenG5043.
36And oneG5100 of the PhariseesG5330 desired him that he would eatG2068 with him. And he enteredG1525 into the Pharisee’s houseG3624, and sat down to meat. 37And beholdG2400, a womanG1135 who wasG1510 in the cityG4172, a sinnerG268; and when she knewG1921 that he wasG1510 sitting at meat in the Pharisee’s houseG3614, she brought an alabasterG211 cruse of ointment, 38and standingG2476 behind at his feetG4228, weepingG2799, she beganG757 to wetG1026 his feetG4228 with her tearsG1144, and wiped them with the hairG2359 of her headG2776, and kissed his feetG4228, and anointedG218 them with the ointment. 39NowG1161 when the PhariseeG5330 that had bidden him sawG3708 it, he spake within himself, sayingG3004, This manG3778, if he wereG1510 a prophetG4396, would have perceived who and what manner of womanG1135 this isG1510 that toucheth him, that she isG1510 a sinnerG268. 40And JesusG2424 answeringG611 saidG3004 unto him, SimonG4613, I have somewhat to sayG3004 unto thee. And he saith, TeacherG1320, sayG3004 on. 41A certainG5100 lender had twoG1417 debtorsG5533: the oneG1520 owedG3784 fiveG4001 hundredG4001 shillings, and the otherG2087 fiftyG4004. 42When they had not wherewith to payG591, he forgaveG5483 them both. Which of them thereforeG3767 will loveG25 him most? 43SimonG4613 answeredG611 and saidG3004, He, I suppose, to whom he forgaveG5483 the most. And he saidG3004 unto him, Thou hast rightlyG3723 judgedG2919. 44And turningG4762 to the womanG1135, he saidG5346 unto SimonG4613, Seest thou this womanG1135? I enteredG1525 into thy houseG3614, thou gavest me no waterG5204 for my feetG4228: but she hath wetted my feetG4228 with her tearsG1144, and wiped them with her hairG2359. 45Thou gavest me no kissG5370: but she, since the time I cameG1525 in, hath not ceased to kissG5370 my feetG4228. 46My headG2776 with oilG1637 thou didst not anointG218: but she hath anointedG218 my feetG4228 with ointment. 47Wherefore I sayG3004 unto thee, Her sinsG266, which are manyG4183, are forgivenG863; for she lovedG25 muchG4183: but to whom littleG3641 is forgivenG863, the sameG846 loveth littleG3641. 48And he saidG3004 unto her, Thy sinsG266 are forgivenG863. 49And they that sat at meat with him beganG757 to sayG3004 within themselves, Who isG1510 this that evenG2532 forgiveth sinsG266? 50And he saidG3004 unto the womanG1135, Thy faithG4102 hath savedG4982 thee; goG4198 in peaceG1515.
