Luke 2
1NowG1161 it cameG1096 to passG1096 in those daysG2250, there wentG1831 out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the worldG3625 should be enrolled. 2This was the firstG4413 enrolment made whenG1096 Quirinius was governor of SyriaG4947. 3And all wentG4198 to enrol themselves, every oneG1538 to his ownG1438 cityG4172. 4And JosephG2501 alsoG2532 wentG305 up from GalileeG1056, out of the cityG4172 of NazarethG3478, into Judæa, to the cityG4172 of DavidG1138, which isG1510 calledG2564 BethlehemG965, because he wasG1510 of the houseG3624 and familyG3965 of DavidG1138; 5to enrol himself with MaryG3137, who wasG1510 betrothedG3423 to him, beingG1510 great with child. 6And it cameG1096 to passG1096, while they wereG1510 there, the daysG2250 wereG1510 fulfilled that she should beG1510 delivered. 7And she brought forthG5088 her firstbornG4416 sonG5207; and she wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a mangerG5336, because there wasG1510 no room for them in the inn.
8And there wereG1510 shepherdsG4166 in the sameG846 countryG5561 abiding in the field, and keepingG5442 watchG5438 by nightG3571 over their flockG4167. 9And an angelG32 of the LordG2962 stood by them, and the gloryG1391 of the LordG2962 shoneG4034 round about them: and they were sore afraidG5399. 10And the angelG32 saidG3004 unto them, BeG1510 not afraidG5399; for beholdG2400, I bringG2097 you good tidings of greatG3173 joyG5479 which shall beG1510 to all the peopleG2992: 11for there isG1510 bornG5088 to you this dayG4594 in the cityG4172 of DavidG1138 a Saviour, who isG1510 ChristG5547 the LordG2962. 12And this is the signG4592 unto you: Ye shall findG2147 a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lyingG2749 in a mangerG5336. 13And suddenlyG1810 there was with the angelG32 a multitudeG4128 of the heavenlyG3770 hostG4756 praisingG134 GodG2316, and sayingG3004,
15And it cameG1096 to passG1330, whenG5613 the angelsG32 wentG565 awayG565 from them into heavenG3772, the shepherdsG4166 saidG2980 oneG240 to another, Let us now goG565 evenG2532 unto BethlehemG965, and seeG3708 this thingG3778 that is comeG1096 to passG1330, which the LordG2962 hath made known unto us. 16And they cameG2064 with haste, and found both MaryG3137 and JosephG2501, and the babe lyingG2749 in the mangerG5336. 17And when they sawG3708 it, they madeG1107 known concerningG4012 the sayingG2980 which was spokenG2980 to them about this childG3813. 18And all that heardG191 it wonderedG2296 at the thingsG3956 which were spokenG2980 unto them by the shepherdsG4166. 19But MaryG3137 kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heartG2588. 20And the shepherdsG4166 returnedG5290, glorifyingG1392 and praisingG134 GodG2316 for all the thingsG3956 that they had heardG191 and seenG3708, evenG2532 as it was spokenG2980 unto them.
21And whenG3753 eightG3638 daysG2250 were fulfilled for circumcising him, his nameG3686 was calledG2564 JESUSG2424, which was so calledG2564 by the angelG32 before he was conceived in the wombG2836.
22And whenG3753 the daysG2250 of their purificationG2512 accordingG2596 to the lawG3551 of MosesG3475 were fulfilled, they broughtG321 him up to JerusalemG2414, to presentG3936 him to the LordG2962 23(as it is writtenG1125 in the lawG3551 of the LordG2962, Every maleG730 that openeth the wombG3388 shall be calledG2564 holyG40 to the LordG2962), 24and to offer a sacrificeG2378 accordingG2596 to that which is saidG3004 in the lawG3551 of the LordG2962, A pair of turtledoves, or twoG1417 young pigeons. 25And beholdG2400, there wasG1510 a manG444 in JerusalemG2419, whose nameG3686 wasG1510 SimeonG4826; and this manG444 wasG1510 righteousG1342 and devoutG2126, looking for the consolation of IsraelG2474: and the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 wasG1510 upon him. 26And it had beenG1510 revealed unto him by the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, that he should not seeG3708 deathG2288, before he had seenG3708 the Lord’s ChristG5547. 27And he cameG2064 in the SpiritG4151 into the temple: and when the parentsG1118 broughtG1521 in the childG3813 JesusG2424, that they might do concerningG4012 him after the custom of the lawG3551, 28then he receivedG1209 him into his arms, and blessedG2127 GodG2316, and saidG3004,
33And his fatherG3962 and his motherG3384 wereG1510 marvelling at the things which wereG1510 spokenG2980 concerningG4012 him; 34and SimeonG4826 blessedG2127 them, and saidG3004 unto MaryG3137 his motherG3384, BeholdG2400, this child is setG2749 for the falling and the rising of manyG4183 in IsraelG2474; and for a signG4592 which is spoken against; 35yea and a swordG4501 shall pierce through thine own soulG5590; that thoughtsG1261 out of manyG4183 heartsG2588 may be revealedG601. 36And there wasG1510 oneG3778 Anna, a prophetessG4398, the daughterG2364 of Phanuel, of the tribeG5443 of AsherG768 (she wasG1510 of a greatG4183 age, having lived with a husbandG435 sevenG2033 yearsG2094 from her virginity, 37and she had been a widowG5503 evenG2532 unto fourscore and fourG5064 yearsG2094), who departedG868 not from the temple, worshipping with fastings and supplications nightG3571 and dayG2250. 38And coming up at that very hourG5610 she gave thanks unto GodG2316, and spake of him to all them that were looking for the redemptionG3085 of JerusalemG2419. 39And whenG5613 they had accomplishedG5055 all thingsG3956 that were accordingG2596 to the lawG3551 of the LordG2962, they returnedG1994 into GalileeG1056, to their ownG1438 cityG4172 NazarethG3478.
40And the childG3813 grewG837, and waxed strong, filledG4137 with wisdomG4678: and the graceG5485 of GodG2316 wasG1510 upon him.
41And his parentsG1118 wentG4198 every yearG2094 to JerusalemG2419 at the feastG1859 of the passoverG3957. 42And whenG3753 he was twelveG1427 yearsG2094 old, they wentG305 up after the customG1485 of the feastG1859; 43and when they had fulfilled the daysG2250, as they were returningG5290, the boyG3816 JesusG2424 tarried behind in JerusalemG2419; and his parentsG1118 knewG1097 it not; 44but supposing him to beG1510 in the company, they went a day’sG2250 journeyG3598; and they sought for him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance: 45and when they foundG2147 him not, they returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2419, seeking for him. 46And it cameG1096 to passG1096, after threeG5140 daysG2250 they foundG2147 him in the temple, sitting in the midstG3319 of the teachersG1320, both hearingG191 them, and askingG1905 them questionsG1905: 47and all that heardG191 him were amazed at his understandingG4907 and his answersG612. 48And when they sawG3708 him, they were astonishedG1605; and his motherG3384 saidG3004 unto him, SonG5043, whyG5101 hast thou thusG3779 dealt with us? beholdG2400, thy fatherG3962 and I soughtG2212 thee sorrowing. 49And he saidG3004 unto them, How isG1510 it that ye soughtG2212 me? knew ye not that I must beG1510 in my Father’s house? 50And they understoodG4920 not the sayingG2980 which he spake unto them. 51And he went downG2597 with them, and cameG2064 to NazarethG3478; and he wasG1510 subjectG5293 unto them: and his motherG3384 kept all these sayings in her heartG2588.
52And JesusG2424 advanced in wisdomG4678 and statureG2244, and in favorG5485 with GodG2316 and menG444.
