5In the daysἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250of HerodἩρῴδουHērōdouG2264,kingβασιλέωςbasileōsG935of JudeaἸουδαίαςIoudaiasG2449,there was a priestἱερεύςhi'ereusG2409namedὀνόματιonomatiG3686ZechariahΖαχαρίαςZachariasG2197, of thedivisionἐφημερίαςephēmeriasG2183ofAbijahἈβιά,AbiaG7;and he had a wifeγυνὴgunēG1135from the daughtersθυγατέρωνthugaterōnG2364of AaronἈαρὼνAarōnG2,and her nameὄνομαonomaG3686was ElizabethἘλισάβετ.¶ElisabetG1665.

6They were bothἀμφότεροιamphoteroiG297righteousδίκαιοιdikaioiG1342inG1726theG1726sightG1726of GodθεοῦtheouG2316,walkingπορευόμενοιporeuomenoiG4198blamelesslyἄμεμπτοι.amemptoiG273in allπάσαιςpasaisG3956the commandmentsἐντολαῖςentolaisG1785and requirementsδικαιώμασινdikaiōmasinG1345of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962.

7And yetthey hadG1510noοὐκoukG3756childτέκνον,teknonG5043,becauseκαθότιkathotiG2530ElizabethἘλισάβετElisabetG1665was infertileστεῖραsteiraG4723,and they were bothἀμφότεροιamphoteroiG297advancedπροβεβηκότεςprobebēkotesG4260inyearsἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250.

8NowδὲdeG1161it happenedἘγένετοEgenetoG1096thatwhileG1722he was performingG2407his priestlyG2407serviceG2407beforeἔναντιenantiG1725Godθεοῦ,theouG2316in the appointedG5010orderτάξειtaxeiG5010of his divisionἐφημερίαςephēmeriasG2183,

9accordingκατὰkataG2596to the customἔθοςethosG1485of the priestlyG2405officeG2405,he was chosenG2975byG2975lotG2975to enterεἰσελθὼνeiselthōnG1525the templeναὸνnaonG3485of the Lordκυρίου·kuriouG2962and burnG2370incenseG2370.

10And the wholeπᾶνpanG3956multitudeπλῆθοςplēthosG4128of the peopleλαοῦlaouG2992were inG4336prayerG4336outsideἔξωexōG1854at the hourὥρᾳhōraG5610of the incenseθυμιάματος.¶thumiamatosG2368offering.

11NowδὲdeG1161an angelἄγγελοςangelosG32of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962appearedG3708to him, standingἑστὼςhestōsG2476to the rightδεξιῶνdexiōnG1188of the altarθυσιαστηρίουthusiastēriouG2379of incenseθυμιάματος·thumiamatosG2368.

12ZechariahΖαχαρίαςZachariasG2197was troubledἐταράχθηetarachthēG5015when he sawG3708the angel, andfearφόβοςphobosG5401grippedἐπέπεσενepepesenG1968him.

13But the angelἄγγελος·angelosG32saidG3004to him, “Do not beG5399afraidG5399,ZechariahΖαχαρία·ZachariaG2197,for your prayerδέησίςdeēsisG1162has been heardεἰσηκούσθηeisēkousthēG1522,and your wifeγυνήgunēG1135ElizabethἘλισάβετElisabetG1665will bearγεννήσειgennēseiG1080you a sonυἱόνhuionG5207, and you shallnameκαλέσεις ὄνομαkaleseis onomaG2564 G3686him JohnἸωάννην.IōannēnG2491.

14You will have joyχαράcharaG5479and gladnessἀγαλλίασις,agalliasisG20,and manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183will rejoiceχαρήσονται.charēsontaiG5463overἐπὶepiG1909his birthγενέσειgeneseiG1078.

15For he will be greatμέγαςmegasG3173inG1799theG1799sightG1799ofG1799the Lordκυρίου,kuriouG2962; and he willdrinkπίῃ,piēG4095noοὐ μὴou mēG3756 G3361wineοἶνονoinonG3631orG2532liquorσίκεραsikeraG4608,and he will be filledG4092with the HolyἁγίουhagiouG40SpiritπνεύματοςpneumatosG4151while stillἔτιetiG2089in his mother’sμητρὸςmētrosG3384wombκοιλίαςkoiliasG2836.

16And he willturnἐπιστρέψειepistrepseiG1994manyπολλοὺςpollousG4183of the sonsυἱῶνhuiōnG5207of IsraelἸσραὴλIsraēlG2474backG1994to the LordκύριονkurionG2962their GodθεὸνtheonG2316.

17And it is he who willgoπροελεύσεταιproeleusetaiG4281as a forerunnerbeforeἐνώπιονenōpionG1799Him in the spiritπνεύματιpneumatiG4151and powerδυνάμειdunameiG1411ofElijahἨλίουĒliouG2243,to turnἐπιστρέψαιepistrepsaiG1994the heartsκαρδίαςkardiasG2588of fathersπατέρωνpaterōnG3962backG1994to theirchildrenτέκναteknaG5043,and the disobedientἀπειθεῖςapeitheisG545to the attitudeφρονήσειphronēseiG5428of the righteousδικαίων,dikaiōnG1342, tomakeἑτοιμάσαιhetoimasaiG2090readyG2090a peopleλαὸνlaonG2992preparedκατεσκευασμένον.¶kateskeuasmenonG2680for the LordκυρίῳkuriōG2962.”

18ZechariahΖαχαρίαςZachariasG2197saidG3004to the angelἄγγελον·angelonG32, “Howκατὰ τίkata tiG2596 G5101will I knowγνώσομαιgnōsomaiG1097thisτοῦτο;toutoG3778? ForI amεἰμιeimiG1510an oldG4246manG4246,and my wifeγυνήgunēG1135is advancedπροβεβηκυῖαprobebēkuiaG4260in heryearsἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250.”

19The angelἄγγελοςangelosG32answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to him, “I amεἰμιeimiG1510GabrielΓαβριὴλGabriēlG1043, whostandsπαρεστηκὼςparestēkōsG3936inG1799theG1799presenceG1799ofG1799GodθεοῦtheouG2316,and I was sentἀπεστάληνapestalēnG649to speakλαλῆσαιlalēsaiG2980to you and to bringεὐαγγελίσασθαίeuangelisasthaiG2097you thisταῦτα.tautaG3778goodG2097newsG2097.

20And beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,you will be silentσιωπῶνsiōpōnG4623and unableμὴ δυνάμενοςmē dunamenosG3361 G1410to speakλαλῆσαιlalēsaiG2980untilἄχριachriG891the dayἡμέραςhēmerasG2250whenἧςhēsG3739theseG3778thingsταῦτα,tautaG3778takeG1096placeG1096,becauseἀνθ᾽ ὧνanth᾽ hōnG473 G3739you did not believeἐπίστευσαςepisteusasG4100my wordsλόγοιςlogoisG3056,whichοἵτινεςoitinesG3748will be fulfilledπληρωθήσονταιplērōthēsontaiG4137at their properG2540timeG2540.”

21And meanwhilethe peopleλαὸςlaosG2992were waitingG4328forG4328ZechariahΖαχαρίανZacharianG2197,and wereG2296wonderingἐθαύμαζονethaumazonG2296at his delayχρονίζεινchronizeinG5549in the templeναῷnaōG3485.

22But when he cameἐξελθὼνexelthōnG1831outG1831,he was unableοὐκ ἐδύνατοouk edunatoG3756 G1410to speakλαλῆσαιlalēsaiG2980to them; and they realizedἐπέγνωσανepegnōsanG1921that he had seenἑώρακενhe'ōrakenG3708a visionὀπτασίανoptasianG3701in the templeναῷ.naōG3485, and he repeatedlymadeG1269signsG1269to them, and remainedδιέμενενdiemenenG1265speechlessκωφός.¶kōphosG2974.

23WhenὡςhōsG5613the daysἡμέραιhēmeraiG2250of his priestlyG3009serviceλειτουργίαςleitourgiasG3009were concludedG4092,he wentG565backG565homeοἶκονoikonG3624.

24NowδὲdeG1161afterΜετὰMetaG3326theseταύταςtautasG3778daysἡμέραςhēmerasG2250his wifeγυνὴgunēG1135ElizabethἘλισάβετElisabetG1665becameG4815pregnantG4815,and she keptG4032herselfἑαυτὴνhe'autēnG1438inG4032seclusionG4032for fiveπέντεpenteG4002monthsμῆναςmēnasG3376,sayingλέγουσαlegousaG3004,

25“ThisG3779isG3779theG3779wayG3779the LordκύριοςkuriosG2962has dealtπεποίηκενpepoiēkenG4160with me in the daysἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250whenαἷςhaisG3739He lookedG1896with favoruponG1896me, totakeἀφελεῖνapheleinG851awayG851my disgraceὄνειδόςoneidosG3681amongG1722peopleἀνθρώποις.¶anthrōpoisG444.”

26NowδὲdeG1161in the sixthἕκτῳhektōG1623monthμηνὶmēniG3376the angelἄγγελοςangelosG32GabrielΓαβριὴλGabriēlG1043was sentG649from GodθεοῦtheouG2316to a cityπόλινpolinG4172inG649GalileeΓαλιλαίαςGalilaiasG1056namedὄνομαonomaG3686NazarethΝαζαρὲθNazarethG3478,

27toa virginπαρθένονparthenonG3933betrothedἐμνηστευμένηνemnēsteumenēnG3423to a manἀνδρὶandriG435whoseᾧhōG3739nameὄνομαonomaG3686was JosephἸωσὴφIōsēphG2501, of thedescendantsοἴκουoikouG3624of DavidG1160;and the virgin’sπαρθένουparthenouG3933nameὄνομαonomaG3686wasMaryΜαριάμ.¶MariamG3137.

28And comingεἰσελθὼνeiselthōnG1525inG1525,he saidG3004to her, “Greetingsχαῖρε,chaireG5463,favoredκεχαριτωμένη·kecharitōmenēG5487one! The LordκύριοςkuriosG2962is with you.”

29But shewas veryG1298perplexedG1298at thisstatementλόγῳlogōG3056,and was ponderingδιελογίζετοdielogizetoG1260whatG4217kindποταπὸςpotaposG4217of greetingἀσπασμὸςaspasmosG783thisοὗτος.houtosG3778was.

30And the angelἄγγελοςangelosG32saidG3004to her, “Do not beG5399afraidG5399,MaryΜαριάμ,MariamG3137,for you have foundεὗρεςheuresG2147favorχάρινcharinG5485with Godθεῷ.theōG2316.

31And beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,you will conceiveσυλλήμψῃsullēmpsēG4815in your wombγαστρὶgastriG1064and giveG5088birthG5088to a sonυἱὸνhuionG5207, and youshall nameκαλέσεις ὄνομαkaleseis onomaG2564 G3686Him JesusἸησοῦν.IēsounG2424.

32He will be greatμέγαςmegasG3173and will be calledκληθήσεται,klēthēsetaiG2564the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207ofthe MostὑψίστουhupsistouG5310HighG5310;and the LordκύριοςkuriosG2962GodθεὸςtheosG2316will giveδώσειdōseiG1325Himthe throneθρόνονthrononG2362of His fatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962DavidG1160;

33and He will reignβασιλεύσειbasileuseiG936overἐπὶepiG1909the houseοἶκονoikonG3624of JacobἸακὼβIakōbG2384foreverαἰῶνας,aiōnasG165,and His kingdomβασιλείαςbasileiasG932will have noοὐκoukG3756endτέλος.¶telosG5056.”

34But MaryΜαριὰμMariamG3137saidG3004to the angelἄγγελον·angelonG32, “HowπῶςpōsG4459will thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778be, sinceἐπεὶepeiG1893Iam a virginἄνδρα οὐ γινώσκω;¶andra ou ginōskōG435 G3756 G1097?”

35The angelἄγγελοςangelosG32answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004to her, “The HolyἅγιονhagionG40SpiritπνεῦμαpneumaG4151will comeἐπελεύσεταιepeleusetaiG1904upon you, and the powerδύναμιςdunamisG1411ofthe MostὑψίστουhupsistouG5310HighG5310will overshadowἐπισκιάσειepiskiaseiG1982you; for that reasonδιὸdioG1352alsoG2532theholyἅγιονhagionG40ChildγεννώμενονgennōmenonG1080will be calledκληθήσεταιklēthēsetaiG2564the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of Godθεοῦ.theouG2316.

36And beholdἰδοὺidouG2400,evenG2532your relativeG4773ElizabethἘλισάβετElisabetG1665herselfG846has conceivedσυνείληφενsuneilēphenG4815a sonυἱὸνhuionG5207in her oldG1094ageG1094, andshe who was calledκαλουμένῃkaloumenēG2564infertileστείρᾳsteiraG4723is nowοὗτοςhoutosG3778in her sixthἕκτοςhektosG1623monthμὴνmēnG3376.

37Fornothingοὐκ πᾶν ῥῆμα.¶ouk pan rhēmaG3756 G3956 G4487will be impossibleἀδυνατήσειadunatēseiG101with GodθεοῦtheouG2316.”

38And MaryΜαριάμ·MariamG3137saidG3004, “BeholdἰδοὺidouG2400,the Lord’sκυρίου·kuriouG2962bond-servantδούληdoulēG1401;may it be doneγένοιτόgenoitoG1096to me accordingκατὰkataG2596to your wordῥῆμάrhēmaG4487.”And the angelἄγγελος.¶angelosG32departedἀπῆλθενapēlthenG565from her.

39NowδὲdeG1161at thisταύταιςtautaisG3778timeἡμέραιςhēmeraisG2250MaryΜαριὰμMariamG3137setG450outG450and wentἐπορεύθηeporeuthēG4198in a hurryσπουδῆςspoudēsG4710tothe hillὀρεινὴνoreinēnG3714countryG3714,to a cityπόλινpolinG4172of JudahG2455,

40and she enteredεἰσῆλθενeisēlthenG1525the houseοἶκονoikonG3624of ZechariahΖαχαρίουZachariouG2197and greetedἠσπάσατοēspasatoG782ElizabethἘλισάβετ.¶ElisabetG1665.

41WhenὡςhōsG5613ElizabethἘλισάβετ,ElisabetG1665heardἤκουσενēkousenG191Mary’sΜαρίαςMariasG3137greetingἀσπασμὸνaspasmonG783,the babyβρέφοςbrephosG1025leapedἐσκίρτησενeskirtēsenG4640in her wombκοιλίᾳkoiliaG2836,and ElizabethἘλισάβετElisabetG1665wasfilledG4092with the HolyἁγίουhagiouG40SpiritπνεύματοςpneumatosG4151.

42And she criedG400outG400with a loudμεγάλῃmegalēG3173voiceκραυγῇkraugēaG2906and saidG3004, “BlessedεὐλογημένηeulogēmenēG2127areyou amongἐνenG1722womenγυναιξίν,gunaixinG1135,and blessedεὐλογημένοςeulogēmenosG2127isthe fruitκαρπὸςkarposG2590of your wombκοιλίαςkoiliasG2836!

43AndhowπόθενpothenG4159has it happened to me that the motherμήτηρmētērG3384ofmy LordκυρίουkuriouG2962would comeἔλθῃelthēG2064to me?
