5 There was in the days ἡμέραις hēmerais G2250 of Herod Ἡρῴδου Hērōdou G2264 , king βασιλέως basileōs G935 of Judæa, a certain τις tis G5100 priest ἱερεύς hi'ereus G2409 named G3686 Zacharias , of the course of Abijah Ἀβιά, Abia G7 : and he had a wife γυνὴ gunē G1135 of the daughters θυγατέρων thugaterōn G2364 of Aaron Ἀαρὼν Aarōn G2 , and her name G3686 was Elisabeth. 6 And they were G1510 both righteous δίκαιοι dikaioi G1342 before God θεοῦ theou G2316 , walking πορευόμενοι poreuomenoi G4198 in all the commandments ἐντολαῖς entolais G1785 and ordinances of the Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 blameless ἄμεμπτοι. amemptoi G273 . 7 And they had no child τέκνον, teknon G5043 , because that Elisabeth was G1510 barren στεῖρα steira G4723 , and they both were G1510 now well stricken in years . 8 Now δὲ de G1161 it came G1096 to pass Ἐγένετο Egeneto G1096 , while he executed the priest’s office before God θεοῦ, theou G2316 in the order τάξει taxei G5010 of his course, 9 according κατὰ kata G2596 to the custom ἔθος ethos G1485 of the priest’s office , his lot was to enter εἰσελθὼν eiselthōn G1525 into the temple ναὸν naon G3485 of the Lord κυρίου· kuriou G2962 and burn incense . 10 And the whole multitude πλῆθος plēthos G4128 of the people λαοῦ laou G2992 were G1510 praying προσευχόμενον proseuchomenon G4336 without at the hour ὥρᾳ hōra G5610 of incense θυμιάματος.¶ thumiamatos G2368 . 11 And there appeared unto him an angel ἄγγελος angelos G32 of the Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 standing ἑστὼς hestōs G2476 on the right δεξιῶν dexiōn G1188 side of the altar θυσιαστηρίου thusiastēriou G2379 of incense θυμιάματος· thumiamatos G2368 . 12 And Zacharias was troubled ἐταράχθη etarachthē G5015 when he saw G3708 him , and fear φόβος phobos G5401 fell upon him . 13 But the angel ἄγγελος· angelos G32 said G3004 unto him , Fear φοβοῦ phobou G5399 not , Zacharias : because thy supplication G1162 is heard , and thy wife γυνή gunē G1135 Elisabeth shall bear γεννήσει gennēsei G1080 thee a son υἱόν huion G5207 , and thou shalt call καλέσεις kaleseis G2564 his name ὄνομα onoma G3686 John Ἰωάννην. Iōannēn G2491 . 14 And thou shalt have joy χαρά chara G5479 and gladness ἀγαλλίασις, agalliasis G20 ; and many πολλοὶ polloi G4183 shall rejoice χαρήσονται. charēsontai G5463 at his birth . 15 For he shall be ἔσται estai G1510 great μέγας megas G3173 in the sight of the Lord κυρίου, kuriou G2962 , and he shall drink πίῃ, piē G4095 no wine οἶνον oinon G3631 nor strong drink G4095 ; and he shall be G1510 filled πλησθήσεται plēsthēsetai G4130 with the Holy ἁγίου hagiou G40 Spirit πνεύματος pneumatos G4151 , even G2532 from his mother’s μητρὸς mētros G3384 womb κοιλίας koilias G2836 . 16 And many πολλοὺς pollous G4183 of the children of Israel Ἰσραὴλ Israēl G2474 shall he turn ἐπιστρέψει epistrepsei G1994 unto the Lord κύριον kurion G2962 their God θεὸν theon G2316 . 17 And he shall go προελεύσεται proeleusetai G4281 before his face in the spirit πνεύματι pneumati G4151 and power δυνάμει dunamei G1411 of Elijah Ἠλίου Ēliou G2243 , to turn ἐπιστρέψαι epistrepsai G1994 the hearts καρδίας kardias G2588 of the fathers πατέρων paterōn G3962 to the children G5043 , and the disobedient ἀπειθεῖς apeitheis G545 to walk in the wisdom of the just G1342 ; to make ἑτοιμάσαι hetoimasai G2090 ready G2090 for the Lord κυρίῳ kuriō G2962 a people λαὸν laon G2992 prepared G2090 for him . 18 And Zacharias said G3004 unto the angel ἄγγελον· angelon G32 , Whereby shall I know γνώσομαι gnōsomai G1097 this ? for I am G1510 an old man G3778 , and my wife γυνή gunē G1135 well stricken in years . 19 And the angel ἄγγελος angelos G32 answering ἀποκριθεὶς apokritheis G611 said G3004 unto him , I am G1510 Gabriel Γαβριὴλ Gabriēl G1043 , that stand παρεστηκὼς parestēkōs G3936 in the presence G1799 of God θεοῦ theou G2316 ; and I was G1510 sent G649 to speak λαλῆσαι lalēsai G2980 unto thee, and to bring εὐαγγελίσασθαί euangelisasthai G2097 thee these good tidings. 20 And behold ἰδοὺ idou G2400 , thou shalt be ἔσῃ esē G1510 silent σιωπῶν siōpōn G4623 and not able δυνάμενος dunamenos G1410 to speak λαλῆσαι lalēsai G2980 , until the day ἡμέρας hēmeras G2250 that these things ταῦτα, tauta G3778 shall come G1096 to pass G1096 , because thou believedst not my words λόγοις logois G3056 , which shall be G1510 fulfilled in their season καιρὸν kairon G2540 . 21 And the people λαὸς laos G2992 were G1510 waiting for Zacharias , and they marvelled while he tarried in the temple ναῷ naō G3485 . 22 And when he came ἐξελθὼν exelthōn G1831 out , he could not speak λαλῆσαι lalēsai G2980 unto them : and they perceived that he had seen G3708 a vision ὀπτασίαν optasian G3701 in the temple ναῷ. naō G3485 : and he continued making signs unto them , and remained dumb. 23 And it came G1096 to pass ἐγένετο egeneto G1096 , when ὡς hōs G5613 the days ἡμέραι hēmerai G2250 of his ministration were fulfilled, he departed ἀπῆλθεν apēlthen G565 unto his house G3624 . 24 And after these days ἡμέρας hēmeras G2250 Elisabeth his wife γυνὴ gunē G1135 conceived ; and she hid herself five πέντε pente G4002 months μῆνας mēnas G3376 , saying λέγουσα legousa G3004 , 25 Thus οὕτως houtōs G3779 hath the Lord κύριος kurios G2962 done unto me in the days ἡμέραις hēmerais G2250 wherein he looked upon me , to take ἀφελεῖν aphelein G851 away G851 my reproach among men G444 . 27 to a virgin παρθένον parthenon G3933 betrothed ἐμνηστευμένην emnēsteumenēn G3423 to a man ἀνδρὶ andri G435 whose name ὄνομα onoma G3686 was Joseph Ἰωσὴφ Iōsēph G2501 , of the house οἴκου oikou G3624 of David Δαυίδ, Dauid G1138 ; and the virgin’s παρθένου parthenou G3933 name ὄνομα onoma G3686 was Mary Μαριάμ.¶ Mariam G3137 . 28 And he came εἰσελθὼν eiselthōn G1525 in unto her , and said G3004 , Hail G5463 , thou that art highly favored , the Lord κύριος kurios G2962 is with thee. 29 But she was εἴη eiē G1510 greatly troubled at the saying G3056 , and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be G1510 . 31 And behold ἰδοὺ idou G2400 , thou shalt conceive in thy womb γαστρὶ gastri G1064 , and bring forth τέξῃ texē G5088 a son υἱὸν huion G5207 , and shalt call καλέσεις kaleseis G2564 his name ὄνομα onoma G3686 JESUS Ἰησοῦν. Iēsoun G2424 . 33 and he shall reign βασιλεύσει basileusei G936 over the house οἶκον oikon G3624 of Jacob Ἰακὼβ Iakōb G2384 for ever ; and of his kingdom βασιλείας basileias G932 there shall be ἔσται estai G1510 no end τέλος.¶ telos G5056 . 35 And the angel ἄγγελος angelos G32 answered ἀποκριθεὶς apokritheis G611 and said G3004 unto her , The Holy ἅγιον hagion G40 Spirit πνεῦμα pneuma G4151 shall come ἐπελεύσεται epeleusetai G1904 upon thee, and the power δύναμις dunamis G1411 of the Most ὑψίστου hupsistou G5310 High G5310 shall overshadow G1982 thee: wherefore also G2532 the holy ἅγιον hagion G40 thing which is begotten G1080 shall be called κληθήσεται klēthēsetai G2564 the Son υἱὸς huios G5207 of God θεοῦ. theou G2316 . 37 For no word from God θεοῦ theou G2316 shall be void of power. 38 And Mary Μαριάμ· Mariam G3137 said G3004 , Behold ἰδοὺ idou G2400 , the handmaid of the Lord κυρίου· kuriou G2962 ; be it unto me according κατὰ kata G2596 to thy word . And the angel ἄγγελος.¶ angelos G32 departed ἀπῆλθεν apēlthen G565 from her . 40 and entered εἰσῆλθεν eisēlthen G1525 into the house οἶκον oikon G3624 of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth. 41 And it came G1096 to pass ἐγένετο egeneto G1096 , when G5613 Elisabeth heard G191 the salutation of Mary Μαρίας Marias G3137 , the babe leaped ἐσκίρτησεν eskirtēsen G4640 in her womb κοιλίᾳ koilia G2836 ; and Elisabeth was filled ἐπλήσθη eplēsthē G4130 with the Holy ἁγίου hagiou G40 Spirit πνεύματος pneumatos G4151 ; 43 And whence is this to me , that the mother μήτηρ mētēr G3384 of my Lord κυρίου kuriou G2962 should come ἔλθῃ elthē G2064 unto me ?
