Peter’s Arrest and Deliverance
1NowG1161 aboutG2596 that timeG2540 1HerodG2264 the kingG935 laidG1911 handsG5495 onG1911 someG5100 whoG3588 belongedG575 to the churchG1577, to doG2559 them harmG2559. 2And he 2had JamesG2385 the brotherG80 of JohnG2491 3executedG337 with a swordG3162. 3When he sawG3708 that it 4pleasedG701 the JewsG2453, he proceededG4369 to arrestG4815 PeterG4074 asG2532 wellG2532. (NowG1161 these were 56the daysG2250 of UnleavenedG106 BreadG106.) 4When he had arrestedG4084 him, he putG5087 him in prisonG5438, turningG3860 him overG3860 to fourG5064 78squadsG5069 of soldiersG4757 to guardG5442 him, intendingG1014 only afterG3326 9the PassoverG3957 to bringG321 him before the peopleG2992. 5SoG3767 PeterG4074 was keptG5083 in the prisonG5438, but prayerG4335 for him was beingG1096 madeG1096 to GodG2316 10intenselyG1619 by the churchG1577.
6On 11the veryG1565 nightG3571 whenG3753 HerodG2264 wasG3195 aboutG3195 toG3195 bringG4254 him forwardG4254, PeterG4074 was sleepingG2837 betweenG3342 twoG1417 soldiersG4757, 12boundG1210 with twoG1417 chainsG254, and guardsG5441 in frontG4253 of the doorG2374 were watchingG5083 overG5083 the prisonG5438. 7And beholdG2400, 13an angelG32 of the LordG2962 suddenly 14stoodG2186 nearG2186 Peter, and a lightG5457 shoneG2989 in the cellG3612; and he struckG3960 Peter’sG4074 sideG4125 and wokeG1453 him, sayingG3004, “GetG450 upG450 quicklyG5034.” And 15his chainsG254 fellG1601 offG1601 his handsG5495. 8And the angelG32 saidG3004 to him, “PutG2224 onG2224 your beltG2224 and 16strapG5265 onG5265 your sandalsG4547.” And he didG4160 soG3779. And he saidG3004 to him, “WrapG4016 your cloakG2440 aroundG4016 you and followG190 me.” 9And he wentG1831 outG1831 and continued to followG190, and yet he did not knowG3609 that what was beingG1096 doneG1096 by the angelG32 was realG227, but thoughtG1380 he was seeingG991 17a visionG3705. 10NowG1161 when they had passedG1330 the firstG4413 and secondG1208 guardG5438, they cameG2064 to the ironG4603 gateG4439 that leadsG5342 into the cityG4172, whichG3748 18openedG455 for them byG844 itselfG844; and they wentG1831 outG1831 and wentG4281 alongG4281 oneG1520 streetG4505, and immediatelyG2112 the angelG32 departedG868 from him. 11When PeterG4074 19cameG1096 20to himselfG1438, he saidG3004, “NowG3568 I knowG3609 for sureG230 that 21the LordG2962 has sentG1821 forthG1821 His angelG32 and rescuedG1807 me from the handG5495 of HerodG2264 and from allG3956 22that the JewishG2453 peopleG2992 were expectingG4329.” 12And when he realizedG4894 this, he wentG2064 to the houseG3614 of MaryG3137, the motherG3384 of 23JohnG2491, who was also calledG1941 MarkG3138, whereG3757 manyG2425 were gatheredG4867 togetherG4867 and 24were prayingG4336. 13When he knockedG2925 at the doorG2374 of the gateG4440, 25a slaveG3814 womanG3814 namedG3686 RhodaG4498 cameG4334 to answerG5219. 14When she recognizedG1921 Peter’sG4074 voiceG5456, 26becauseG575 of her joyG5479 she did not openG455 the gateG4440, but ranG1532 inG1532 and announcedG518 that PeterG4074 was standingG2476 in frontG4253 of the gateG4440. 15They saidG3004 to her, “You areG3105 outG3105 ofG3105 your mindG3105!” But she kept insistingG1340 that it was soG3779. They saidG3004, “It is 27his angelG32.” 16But PeterG4074 continuedG1961 knockingG2925; and when they had openedG455 the door, they sawG3708 him and were amazedG1839. 17But 28motioningG2678 to them with his handG5495 to be silentG4601, he describedG1334 to them howG4459 the LordG2962 had ledG1806 him outG1806 of the prisonG5438. And he saidG3004, “ReportG518 theseG3778 thingsG3778 to 2930JamesG2385 and 31the brothersG80.” ThenG2532 he leftG1831 and wentG4198 to anotherG2087 placeG5117.
18NowG1161 when dayG2250 cameG1096, there was noG3756 smallG3641 disturbanceG5017 amongG1722 the soldiersG4757 as to 32whatG5101 could have becomeG1096 of PeterG4074. 19When HerodG2264 had searchedG1934 forG1934 him and had not foundG2147 him, he examinedG350 the guardsG5441 and orderedG2753 that they 33be ledG520 awayG520 to execution. ThenG1161 he wentG2718 downG2718 from JudeaG2449 to 34CaesareaG2542 and was spendingG1304 timeG1304 there.
Death of Herod
20NowG1161 he was veryG2371 angryG2371 with the people of 35TyreG5183 and SidonG4606; and with oneG3661 mindG3661 they cameG3918 to him, and having wonG3982 overG3982 BlastusG986 the king’sG935 chamberlainG1909G2846, they were askingG154 for peaceG1515, becauseG1223 36their countryG5561 was supportedG5142 with grain from the king’sG937 country. 21On an appointedG5002 dayG2250, after puttingG1746 onG1746 his royalG937 apparelG2066, HerodG2264 tookG2523 his seatG2523 on the 37rostrumG968 and began deliveringG1215 anG1215 addressG1215 to them. 22The peopleG1218 repeatedly criedG2019 outG2019, “The voiceG5456 of a godG2316 and not of a manG444!” 23And immediatelyG3916 38an angelG32 of the LordG2962 struckG3960 him becauseG473G3739 he did not giveG1325 GodG2316 the gloryG1391, and he was eatenG4662 byG4662 wormsG4662 and 39diedG1634.
24But 40the wordG3056 of the LordG2962 continued to growG837 and to be multipliedG4129.
25And 41BarnabasG921 and 42SaulG4569 returnedG5290 43when they had fulfilledG4137 their 44missionG1248 to JerusalemG2419, takingG4838 alongG4838 with them 45JohnG2491, who was also calledG1941 MarkG3138.
