Isaiah 3
Revised Version 1895
1For, beholdH2009, the LordH3068, the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, doth takeH5493 awayH5493 from JerusalemH3389 and from JudahH3063 stay and staffH4938, the wholeH3605 stay of breadH3899, and the wholeH3605 stay of waterH4325; 2the mightyH1368 manH376, and the manH376 of warH4421; the judgeH8199, and the prophetH5030, and the divinerH7080, and the ancient; 3the captainH8269 of fiftyH2572, and the honourable manH2450, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the skilful enchanterH3908. 4And I will giveH5414 childrenH5288 to be their princesH8269, and babes shall ruleH4910 over them. 5And the peopleH5971 shall be oppressedH5065, everyH376 one by anotherH7453, and everyH376 one by his neighbour: the childH5288 shall behave himselfH3513 proudly againstH376 the ancient, and the base againstH376 the honourable. 6When a manH376 shall takeH1980 holdH8610 of his brotherH251 in the houseH1004 of his fatherH1, saying, Thou hast clothingH8071, be thou our rulerH7101, and letH1980 this ruin be underH8478 thy handH3027: 7in that dayH3117 shall he liftH5375 upH5375 his voice, sayingH559, I will notH3808 be an healerH2280; for in my houseH1004 is neitherH3808 breadH3899 norH3808 clothingH8071: ye shall notH3808 makeH7760 meH7760 rulerH7101 of the peopleH5971. 8For JerusalemH3389 is ruined, and JudahH3063 is fallenH5307: becauseH3588 their tongueH3956 and their doingsH4611 are againstH413 the LORDH3068, to provoke the eyesH5869 of his gloryH3519. 9The shew of their countenanceH6440 doth witness againstH6440 them; and they declareH5046 their sinH2403 as SodomH5467, they hideH3582 it notH3808. WoeH188 unto their soulH5315! for they have rewardedH1580 evilH7451 unto themselvesH5315. 10SayH559 ye of the righteousH6662, that it shall be wellH2896 with him: for they shall eatH398 the fruitH6529 of their doingsH4611. 11WoeH188 unto the wickedH7563! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his handsH3027 shall be givenH3027 him. 12As for my peopleH5971, children are their oppressorsH5065, and womenH802 ruleH4910 over them. O my peopleH5971, they whichH802 leadH8582 thee cause thee to errH8582, and destroyH1104 the wayH1870 of thy pathsH734. 13The LORDH3068 standeth upH5975 to pleadH7378, and standeth to judgeH1777 the peoplesH5971. 14The LORDH3068 will enterH935 intoH935 judgmentH4941 with the eldersH2205 of his peopleH5971, and the princesH8269 thereof: It is ye that have eaten upH935 the vineyardH3754; the spoil of the poorH6041 is in your housesH1004: 15what mean ye that ye crushH1792 my peopleH5971, and grindH2912 the faceH6440 of the poorH6041? saith the LordH136, the LORDH136 of hostsH6635. 16Moreover the LORDH3068 saidH559, BecauseH3588 the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726 are haughty, and walkH1980 with stretchedH5186 forthH1980 necks and wanton eyesH5869, walkingH1980 and mincingH2952 as they goH1980, and making a tinkling with their feetH7272: 17therefore the LordH3068 will smite with a scab the crownH6936 of the headH6936 of the daughtersH1323 of ZionH6726, and the LORDH3068 will layH6168 bareH6168 their secret parts. 18In that dayH3117 the LordH136 will takeH5493 awayH5493 the bravery of their ankletsH5914, and the cauls, and the crescents; 19the pendantsH5188, and the braceletsH8285, and the mufflers; 20the headtires, and the ankle chains, and the sashesH7196, and the perfume boxesH1004, and the amuletsH3908; 21the ringsH2885, and the noseH639 jewels; 22the festival robesH4254, and the mantles, and the shawlsH4304, and the satchels; 23the handH1549 mirrorsH1549, and the fine linenH5466, and the turbansH6797, and the veilsH7289. 24And it shall comeH1961 to passH1961, that insteadH8478 of sweetH1314 spicesH1314 there shall be rottenness; and insteadH8478 of a girdle a ropeH5364; and insteadH8478 of well set hairH4748 baldnessH7144; and insteadH8478 of a stomacher a girding of sackclothH8242: brandingH3587 insteadH8478 of beautyH3308. 25Thy menH4962 shall fallH5307 by the swordH2719, and thy mightyH1369 in the warH4421. 26And her gatesH6607 shall lamentH578 and mournH56; and she shall be desolate and sitH3427 uponH3427 the groundH776.
