Isaiah 24
American Standard Version
1Behold, Jehovah maketh the earthH776 empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside downH3427, and scattereth abroad the inhabitantsH3427 thereof. 2And it shall beH1961, as with the peopleH5971, so with the priestH3548; as with the servantH5650, so with his masterH113; as with the maid, so with her mistressH1404; as with the buyerH7069, so with the sellerH4376; as with the creditorH5383, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. 3The earthH776 shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste; for Jehovah hath spokenH1696 this wordH1697. 4The earthH776 mourneth and fadeth away, the worldH8398 languisheth and fadeth away, the lofty peopleH5971 of the earthH776 do languishH535. 5The earthH776 also is pollutedH2610 under the inhabitantsH3427 thereof; because they have transgressed the lawsH8451, violated the statutesH2706, brokenH6565 the everlasting covenantH1285. 6ThereforeH3651 hath the curseH423 devouredH398 the earthH776, and they that dwellH3427 therein are found guiltyH816: thereforeH3651 the inhabitantsH3427 of the earthH776 are burnedH2787, and few men leftH7604. 7The newH8492 wineH8492 mourneth, the vineH1612 languisheth, all the merry-hearted do sigh. 8The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joyH4885 of the harpH3658 ceaseth. 9They shall not drinkH8354 wineH3196 with a songH7892; strongH7941 drinkH8354 shall be bitterH4843 to them that drinkH8354 it. 10The waste city is brokenH7665 downH7665; every houseH1004 is shutH5462 up, that no man may comeH935 in. 11There is a crying in the streetsH2351 because of the wineH3196; all joyH8057 is darkened, the mirth of the landH776 is goneH1540. 12In the cityH5892 is leftH7604 desolationH8047, and the gateH8179 is smitten with destruction. 13For thusH3541 shall it beH1961 in the midstH8432 of the earthH776 among the peoplesH5971, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the gleaningsH5955 when the vintage is done.
14These shall liftH5375 up their voiceH6963, they shall shoutH7442; for the majesty of Jehovah they cry aloudH7442 from the seaH3220. 15Wherefore glorifyH3513 ye Jehovah in the east, even the nameH8034 of Jehovah, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, in the isles of the seaH3220. 16From the uttermost part of the earthH776 have we heardH8085 songsH2158: Glory to the righteousH6662.
But I saidH559, I pine away, I pine away, woeH188 is me! the treacherousH898 have dealtH898 treacherouslyH898; yea, the treacherousH898 have dealtH898 very treacherouslyH898. 17FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341, are upon thee, O inhabitantH3427 of the earthH776. 18And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fearH6343 shall fallH5307 into the pitH6354; and he that cometh up out of the midstH8432 of the pitH6354 shall beH1961 takenH3920 in the snareH6341: for the windowsH699 on highH4791 are openedH6605, and the foundationsH4146 of the earthH776 tremble. 19The earthH776 is utterly brokenH6565, the earthH776 is rent asunder, the earthH776 is shakenH4131 violently. 20The earthH776 shall staggerH5128 like a drunkenH7910 man, and shall sway to and fro like a hammock; and the transgressionH6588 thereof shall be heavyH3513 upon it, and it shall fallH5307, and not riseH6965 again.
21And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that Jehovah will punishH6485 the hostH6635 of the highH4791 ones on highH4791, and the kingsH4428 of the earthH127 upon the earthH127. 22And they shall be gatheredH622 together, as prisonersH616 are gatheredH622 in the pitH953, and shall be shutH5462 up in the prisonH4525; and after many daysH3117 shall they be visitedH6485. 23Then the moonH3842 shall be confounded, and the sunH2535 ashamedH954; for Jehovah of hostsH6635 will reignH4427 in mount ZionH6726, and in JerusalemH3389; and before his eldersH2205 shall be gloryH3519.
