Isaiah 24
Revised Version 1895
1BeholdH2009, the LORDH3068 maketh the earthH776 empty, and maketh it wasteH1110, and turneth it upside downH3427, and scattereth abroad the inhabitantsH3427 thereof. 2And it shall be, as with the peopleH5971, soH1961 with the priestH3548; as with the servantH5650, soH1961 with his masterH113; as with the maidH8198, soH1961 with herH1961 mistressH1404; as with the buyerH7069, soH1961 with the sellerH4376; as with the lender, soH1961 with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, soH1961 with the giver of usury to him. 3The earthH776 shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 this wordH1697. 4The earthH776 mourneth and fadeth awayH535, the worldH8398 languisheth and fadeth awayH535, the loftyH4791 peopleH5971 of the earthH776 do languishH535. 5The earthH776 also is pollutedH2610 underH8478 the inhabitantsH3427 thereof; becauseH3588 they have transgressed the lawsH8451, changedH2498 the ordinanceH2706, brokenH6565 the everlastingH5769 covenantH1285. 6Therefore hath the curseH423 devouredH398 the earthH776, and they that dwellH3427 therein are foundH816 guiltyH816: therefore the inhabitantsH3427 of the earthH776 are burnedH2787, and fewH4213 menH582 leftH7604. 7The newH8492 wineH8492 mourneth, the vineH1612 languisheth, allH3605 the merryhearted doH3605 sighH584. 8The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noiseH7588 of them that rejoiceH4885 endeth, the joyH4885 of the harpH3658 ceaseth. 9They shall notH3808 drinkH8354 wineH3196 with a songH7892; strongH7941 drinkH8354 shall be bitterH4843 to them that drinkH8354 it. 10The cityH7151 of confusionH8414 is brokenH7665 downH7665: everyH3605 houseH1004 is shutH5462 upH5462, that noH3605 manH3605 may comeH935 in. 11There is a crying in the streetsH2351 becauseH5921 of the wineH3196; allH3605 joyH8057 is darkened, the mirthH8057 of the landH776 is goneH1540. 12In the cityH5892 is leftH7604 desolationH8047, and the gateH8179 is smitten with destructionH8047. 13For thusH3541 shall it be in the midstH8432 of the earthH776 among the peoplesH5971, as the shakingH5363 of an oliveH2132 treeH2132, as the grapeH1210 gleaningsH5955 when the vintageH1210 is doneH1961. 14TheseH1992 shall liftH5375 upH5375 their voiceH6963, they shall shoutH7442; for the majesty of the LORDH3068 they cryH6963 aloudH7442 from the seaH3220. 15Wherefore glorifyH3513 ye the LORDH3068 in the east, evenH3651 the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, in the islesH339 of the seaH3220. 16From the uttermost part of the earthH776 have weH8085 heardH8085 songsH2158, glory to the righteousH6662. But I saidH559, I pine awayH3671, I pine awayH3671, woeH188 is me! the treacherousH898 dealers have dealtH898 treacherouslyH898; yea, the treacherousH898 dealers have dealtH898 veryH898 treacherouslyH898. 17FearH6343, and the pitH6354, and the snareH6341, are uponH5921 thee, O inhabitantH3427 of the earthH776. 18And it shall comeH1961 to passH1961, that he who fleeth from the noiseH6963 of the fearH6343 shall fallH5307 intoH413 the pitH6354; and he that cometh upH5927 outH413 of the midstH8432 of the pitH6354 shall be takenH3920 in the snareH6341: for the windowsH699 on highH4791 are openedH6605, and the foundationsH4146 of the earthH776 do shakeH7493. 19The earthH776 is utterly brokenH6565, the earthH776 is clean dissolved, the earthH776 is movedH4131 exceedingly. 20The earthH776 shall staggerH5128 like a drunkenH7910 manH7910, and shall be moved to and froH5128 like a hutH4412; and the transgressionH6588 thereof shall be heavyH3513 uponH5921 it, and it shall fallH5307, and notH3808 riseH6965 againH3254. 21And it shall comeH1961 to passH1961 in that dayH3117, that the LORDH3068 shall punishH6485 the hostH6635 of the highH4791 ones on highH4791, and the kingsH4428 of the earthH127 uponH5921 the earthH127. 22And they shall be gatheredH622 togetherH622, as prisonersH616 are gatheredH622 in the pitH953, and shall be shutH5462 upH5921 in the prisonH4525, and afterH5921 manyH7230 daysH3117 shall they be visitedH6485. 23Then the moonH3842 shall be confoundedH2659, and the sunH2535 ashamedH954; for the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 shall reignH4427 in mountH2022 ZionH6726, and in JerusalemH3389, and beforeH5048 his ancients gloriously.
