Israel’s Taunt
1WhenH3588 the LordH3068 will 1haveH7355 compassionH7355 on JacobH3290 and againH5750 2chooseH977 IsraelH3478, and settleH5117 them in their own landH127, then 3strangersH1616 will joinH3867 them and attachH5596 themselves to the houseH1004 of JacobH3290. 2The peoplesH5971 will takeH3947 them along and bringH935 them to their placeH4725, and the 4houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 will possessH5157 them as an inheritanceH5157 in the landH127 of the LordH3068 5as maleH5650 servantsH5650 and femaleH8198 servantsH5650H8198; and 6they will takeH1961 their captorsH7617 captiveH7617 and will ruleH7287 over their oppressorsH5065.
3And it will be in the dayH3117 when the LordH3068 givesH5117 you 7restH5117 from your painH6090 and turmoilH7267 and harshH7186 serviceH5656 in whichH834 you have been enslavedH5647, 4that you will 8takeH5375 up thisH2088 9tauntH4912 againstH5921 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and sayH559, “HowH349 10the oppressorH5065 has ceasedH7673, And how 11furyH4787 has ceasedH7673!5The LordH3068 has brokenH7665 the staffH4294 of the wickedH7563, The scepterH7626 of rulersH4910612Which used to strikeH5221 the peoplesH5971 in furyH5678 with unceasingH1115H5627 strokesH4347, Which 13subduedH7287 the nationsH1471 in angerH639 with unrestrainedH2820H1097 persecutionH4783.7The wholeH3605 earthH776 is at restH5117 and is quietH8252; They 14breakH6476 forthH6476 into shoutsH7440 of joyH7440.8EvenH1571 the 15cypressH1265 treesH1265 rejoiceH8055 over you, and the cedarsH730 of LebanonH3844, saying, ‘SinceH3975 you were laidH7901 lowH7901, noH3808 tree cutterH3772 comesH5927 up againstH5921 us.’916SheolH7585 from beneathH4480H8478 is excitedH7264 over you to meetH7122 you when you comeH935; It arousesH5782 for you the 17spiritsH7496 of the deadH7496, allH3605 the 18leadersH6260 of the earthH776; It raisesH6965 allH3605 the kingsH4428 of the nationsH1471 from their thronesH3678.1019They will allH3605 respondH6030 and sayH559 to you, ‘EvenH1571 you have been madeH2470 weakH2470 as we, You have becomeH4911 likeH4911 us.11Your 20pompH1347 and the musicH1998 of your harpsH5035 Have been broughtH3381 downH3381 to SheolH7585; MaggotsH7415 are spreadH3331 out as your bed beneathH8478 you And wormsH8439 are your coveringH4374.’12HowH349 you have 21fallenH5307 from heavenH4605, O 2223starH1966 of the morningH1966, sonH1121 of the dawnH7837! You have been cutH1438 downH1438 to the earthH776, You who have weakenedH2522 the nationsH1471!13But you saidH559 in your heartH3824, ‘I will 24ascendH5927 to heavenH4605; I will 25raiseH7311 my throneH3678 aboveH4605 the starsH3556 of GodH410, And I will sitH3427 on the mountH2022 of assemblyH4150 In the recessesH3411 of the northH6828.14I will ascendH5927 aboveH5921 the heightsH1116 of the cloudsH5645; 26I will makeH1819 myself likeH1819 the MostH5945 HighH5945.’15NeverthelessH389 you 27will be thrustH3381 downH3381 to SheolH7585, To the recessesH3411 of the pitH953.16Those who seeH7200 you will gazeH7688 at you, They will 28ponderH995 overH413 you, saying, ‘Is thisH2088 the manH376 who made the earthH776 trembleH7264, Who shookH7493 kingdomsH4467,17Who madeH7760 the worldH8398 like a 29wildernessH4057 And overthrewH2040 its citiesH5892, Who 30did not 31allowH6605 his prisonersH615 to go homeH1004?’18AllH3605 the kingsH4428 of the nationsH1471 lieH7901 in gloryH3519, EachH376 in his own 32tombH1004.19But you have been 33castH7993 out of your tombH6913 Like 34a rejectedH8581 branchH5342, 35ClothedH3830 with the slainH2026 who are piercedH2944 with a swordH2719, Who goH3381 downH3381 to the stonesH68 of the 36pitH953 Like a 37trampledH947 corpseH6297.20You will not be unitedH3161 with them in burialH6900, BecauseH3588 you have ruinedH7843 your countryH776, You have slainH2026 your peopleH5971. May the 38offspringH2233 of evildoersH7489 not be mentionedH7121 foreverH5769.21PrepareH3559 for his sonsH1121 a placeH4293 of slaughterH4293 Because of the 39iniquityH5771 of their fathersH1. They must not ariseH6965 and takeH3423 possessionH3423 of the earthH776 And fillH4390 the faceH6440 of the worldH8398 with citiesH5892.” 22“I will riseH6965 up againstH5921 them,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, “and will cutH3772 offH3772 from BabylonH894 40nameH8034 and survivorsH7605, 41offspringH5209 and posterityH5220,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068. 23“I will also makeH7760 it a possessionH4180 for the 42hedgehogH7090 and swampsH98 of waterH4325, and I will sweepH2894 it with the broomH4292 of 43destructionH8045,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635.
Judgment on Assyria
24The LordH3068 of hostsH6635 has swornH7650 sayingH559, “SurelyH518H3808, 44justH3512 as I have intendedH1819 soH3651 it has happenedH1961, and justH3512 as I have plannedH3289 so it will standH6965, 25to 45breakH7665 AssyriaH804 in My landH776, and I will trampleH947 him on My mountainsH2022. Then his 46yokeH5923 will be removedH5493 from them and his burdenH5448 removedH5493 from their shoulderH7926. 26ThisH2088 is the 47planH6098 48devisedH3289 againstH5921 the wholeH3605 earthH776; and thisH2088 is the 49handH3027 that is stretchedH5186 out againstH5921 allH3605 the nationsH1471. 27For 50the LordH3068 of hostsH6635 has plannedH3289, and whoH4310 can frustrateH6565 it? And as for His stretched-outH5186 handH3027, whoH4310 can turnH7725 it backH7725?”
28In the 51yearH8141 that KingH4428 AhazH271 diedH4194 thisH2088 5253oracleH4853 cameH1961:
Judgment on Philistia
29“Do not rejoiceH8055, O 54PhilistiaH6429, allH3605 of you, BecauseH3588 the rodH7626 that 55struckH5221 you is brokenH7665; For from the serpent’sH5175 rootH8328 a 56viperH6848 will comeH3318 out, And its fruitH6529 will be a 57flyingH5774 serpentH8314.3058Those who are mostH1060 59helplessH1800 will eatH7462, And the needyH34 will lieH7257 downH7257 in securityH983; I will 60destroyH4191 your rootH8328 with 61famineH7458, And it will killH2026 off your survivorsH7611.31WailH3213, O 62gateH8179; cryH2199, O cityH5892; 63MeltH4127 away, O 64PhilistiaH6429, allH3605 of you; For smokeH6227 comesH935 from the 65northH6828, And 66thereH369 is noH369 stragglerH909 in his ranksH4151.32HowH4100 then will one answerH6030 the 67messengersH4397 of the nationH1471? That 68the LordH3068 has foundedH3245 ZionH6726, And 69the afflictedH6041 of His peopleH5971 will seekH2620 refugeH2620 in it.”
