Isaiah 10

Assyria Is God’s Instrument
1WoeH1945 to those who 1enactH2710 evilH205 statutesH2706 And to those who constantly recordH3789 2unjustH5999 decisionsH5999,2So as 3to 4depriveH5186 the needyH1800 of justiceH1779 And robH1497 the poorH6041 of My peopleH5971 of their rightsH4941, So 5that widowsH490 may be their spoilH7998 And that they may plunderH962 the 6orphansH3490.3Now 7whatH4100 will you doH6213 in the 8dayH3117 of punishmentH6486, And in the devastationH7724 which will comeH935 9from afarH4801? 10To whomH4310 will you fleeH5127 for helpH5833? And whereH575 will you leaveH5800 your 11wealthH3519?4NothingH1115 remains but to crouchH3766 12amongH8478 the 13captivesH616 Or fallH5307 14amongH8478 the 15slainH2026. 16In spite of allH3605 thisH2088, His angerH639 does not turnH7725 awayH7725 And His handH3027 is stillH5750 stretchedH5186 out.
5WoeH1945 to 17AssyriaH804, the 18rodH7626 of My angerH639 And the staffH4294 in whose handsH3027 is 19My indignationH2195,6I sendH7971 it against a 20godlessH2611 nationH1471 And commissionH6680 it againstH5921 the 21peopleH5971 of My furyH5678 To captureH7997 bootyH7998 and 22to seizeH962 plunderH957, And to 23trampleH4823 them downH4823 like 24mudH2563 in the streetsH2351.7Yet it 25does not soH3651 intendH1819, NorH3808 does 26it planH2803 soH3651 in its heartH3824, But ratherH3588 it is 27its purposeH3824 to destroyH8045 And to cutH3772 offH3772 28manyH3808H4592 nationsH1471.8For it saysH559, “Are not my princesH8269 29allH3164 kingsH4428?9Is not 30CalnoH3641 like 31CarchemishH3751, OrH518 32HamathH2574 like ArpadH774, OrH518 33SamariaH8111 like 34DamascusH1834?10As my handH3027 has reachedH4672 to the 35kingdomsH4467 of the idolsH457, Whose gravenH6456 imagesH6456 were greater thanH4480 those of JerusalemH3389 and SamariaH8111,11Shall I not 36doH6213 to JerusalemH3389 and her imagesH6091 JustH3512 as I have doneH6213 to SamariaH8111 and 37her idolsH457?”
12So it will be that whenH3588 the LordH136 has completedH1214 allH3605 His 38workH4639 on MountH2022 ZionH6726 and on JerusalemH3389, He will say, “I will 39punishH6485 the fruitH6529 of the arrogantH1433 heartH3824 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 and 40the pompH8597 of 41his haughtinessH7312.” 13For 42he has saidH559, “By the powerH3581 of my handH3027 and by my wisdomH2451 I didH6213 this, For I haveH995 understandingH995; And I 43removedH5493 the boundariesH1367 of the peoplesH5971 And plunderedH8154 their treasuresH6264, And like a mightyH3524 manH47 I broughtH3381 downH3381 44their inhabitantsH3427,14And my handH3027 reachedH4672 to the richesH2428 of the peoplesH5971 like a 45nestH7064, And as one gathersH622 abandonedH5800 eggsH1000, I gatheredH622 allH3605 the earthH776; And there was not one that flappedH5074 its wingH3671 or openedH6475 its beakH6310 or chirpedH6850.”
15Is the 46axeH1631 to 47boastH6286 itself overH5921 the one who chopsH2672 with it? Is the sawH4883 to exaltH1431 itself overH5921 the one who wieldsH5130 it? That would be like 48a 49clubH7626 wieldingH5130 those who liftH7311 it, Or like 50a rodH4294 liftingH7311 him who is not woodH6086.16ThereforeH3651 the LordH136, the 51GodH3068 of hostsH6635, will sendH7971 a 52wastingH7332 diseaseH7332 among his 53stoutH4924 warriorsH4924; And underH8478 his 54gloryH3519 a fireH3350 will be kindledH3344 like a burningH3350 flameH784.17And the 55lightH216 of IsraelH3478 will becomeH1961 a fireH784 and his 56HolyH6918 OneH6918 a flameH3852, And it will 57burnH1197 and devourH398 his thornsH7898 and his briarsH8068 in a singleH259 dayH3117.18And He will 58destroyH3615 the gloryH3519 of his forestH3293 and of his fruitfulH3759 gardenH3759, bothH4480 soulH5315 and bodyH1320, And it will be as when a sickH5263 manH5263 wastesH4549 awayH4549.19And the 59restH7605 of the treesH6086 of his forestH3293 will be so small in numberH4557 That a childH5288 could writeH3789 them downH3789.
A Remnant Will Return
20Now in that dayH3117 the 60remnantH7605 of IsraelH3478, and those of the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 61whoH6413 have escapedH6413, will neverH3808 againH3254 relyH8172 on the one who struckH5221 them, but will trulyH571 62relyH8172 on the LordH3068, the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478.21A 63remnantH7605 will returnH7725, the remnantH7605 of JacobH3290, to the 64mightyH1368 GodH410.22For 65thoughH518 your peopleH5971, O IsraelH3478, may be like the sandH2344 of the seaH3220, Only a remnantH7605 within them will returnH7725; A 66destructionH3631 is determinedH2782, overflowingH7857 with righteousnessH6666. 23For a completeH3617 destructionH3617, one that is decreedH2782, 67the LordH136 68GodH3068 of hostsH6635 will executeH6213 in the midstH7130 of the wholeH3605 landH776.
24ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH136 69GodH3068 of hostsH6635, “O My peopleH5971 who dwellH3427 in 70ZionH6726, 71do not fearH3372 the AssyrianH804 72who 73strikesH5221 you with the rodH7626 and liftsH5375 up his staffH4294 againstH5921 you, the wayH1870 EgyptH4714 did. 25For in a veryH4213 74littleH4592 whileH5750 75My indignationH2195 against you will be spentH3615 and My angerH639 will be directed to their destructionH8399.” 26The LordH3068 of hostsH6635 will 76arouseH5782 a scourgeH7752 againstH5921 him like the slaughterH4347 of 77MidianH4080 at the rockH6697 of OrebH6159; and His 78staffH4294 will be overH5921 the seaH3220 and He will liftH5375 it up 79the wayH1870 He did in EgyptH4714. 27So it will be in that dayH3117, that 80his 81burdenH5448 will be removedH5493 from your shouldersH7926 and his yokeH5923 from your neckH6677, and the yokeH5923 will be brokenH2254 becauseH4480H6440 82of fatnessH8081.
28He has comeH935 againstH5921 AiathH5857, He has passedH5674 through 83MigronH4051; At 84MichmashH4363 he depositedH6485 his 85baggageH3627.29They have goneH5674 throughH5674 86the passH4569, saying, “87GebaH1387 will be our lodgingH4411 placeH4411.” 88RamahH7414 is terrifiedH2729, and 89GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586 has fledH5127 away.30CryH6670 aloudH6670 with your voiceH6963, O daughterH1323 of 90GallimH1554! PayH7181 attentionH7181, LaishahH3919 and 91wretchedH6041 92AnathothH6068!31MadmenahH4088 has fledH5074. The inhabitantsH3427 of GebimH1374 have soughtH5756 refugeH5756.32YetH5750 todayH3117 he will haltH5975 at 93NobH5011; He 94shakesH5130 his fistH3027 at the mountainH2022 of the 9596daughterH1004 of ZionH6726, the hillH1389 of JerusalemH3389.
33BeholdH2009, the LordH113, the 97GodH3068 of hostsH6635, will lopH5586 offH5586 the boughsH6333 with a terribleH4637 crashH4637; Those also who are 98tallH7311 in statureH6967 will be cutH1438 downH1438 And those whoH1364 are loftyH1364 will be abasedH8213.34He will cutH5362 downH5362 the thicketsH5442 of the forestH3293 with an ironH1270 axe, And 99LebanonH3844 will fallH5307 100by the MightyH117 OneH117.
