Isaiah 10
American Standard Version
1WoeH1945 unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers that writeH3789 perverseness; 2to turnH5186 asideH5186 the needy from justiceH4941, and to robH1497 the poorH6041 of my peopleH5971 of their rightH4941, that widowsH490 may beH1961 their spoilH7998, and that they may make the fatherlessH3490 their prey! 3And what will ye do in the dayH3117 of visitation, and in the desolation which shall comeH935 from far? to whom will ye fleeH5127 for helpH5833? and whereH575 will ye leaveH5800 your gloryH3519? 4They shall only bowH3766 downH5307 under the prisonersH616, and shall fallH5307 under the slainH2026. For all this his angerH639 is not turnedH7725 awayH7725, but his handH3027 is stretchedH5186 out stillH5750.
5Ho Assyrian, the rodH7626 of mine angerH639, the staffH4294 in whose handH3027 is mine indignationH2195! 6I will sendH7971 him against a profane nationH1471, and against the peopleH5971 of my wrathH5678 will I give him a charge, to take the spoilH7998, and to take the preyH957, and to tread them down like the mire of the streetsH2351. 7Howbeit he meaneth not soH3651, neither doth his heartH3824 think soH3651; but it is in his heartH3824 to destroyH8045, and to cutH3772 off nationsH1471 not a fewH4592. 8For he saith, Are not my princesH8269 all of them kingsH4428? 9Is not Calno as CarchemishH3751? is not HamathH2574 as ArpadH774? is not SamariaH8111 as DamascusH1834? 10As my handH3027 hath foundH4672 the kingdomsH4467 of the idolsH457, whose graven images did excel them of JerusalemH3389 and of SamariaH8111; 11shall I not, as I have done unto SamariaH8111 and her idolsH457, soH3651 do to JerusalemH3389 and her idolsH457?
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that, when the LordH136 hath performed his whole workH4639 upon mount ZionH6726 and on JerusalemH3389, I will punishH6485 the fruitH6529 of the stout heartH3824 of the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and the gloryH8597 of his high looks. 13For he hath saidH559, By the strengthH3581 of my handH3027 I have done it, and by my wisdomH2451; for I have understandingH995: and I have removedH5493 the bounds of the peoplesH5971, and have robbed their treasures, and like a valiant man I have broughtH3381 downH3381 them that sitH3427 on thrones: 14and my handH3027 hath foundH4672 as a nestH7064 the riches of the peoplesH5971; and as one gathereth eggsH1000 that are forsaken, have I gatheredH622 all the earthH776: and there wasH1961 none that moved the wingH3671, or that openedH6475 the mouthH6310, or chirped.
15Shall the axeH1631 boast itself against him that heweth therewith? shall the saw magnifyH1431 itself against him that wieldeth it? as if a rodH7626 should wieldH5130 them that liftH7311 it up, or as if a staffH4294 should liftH7311 up him that is not woodH6086. 16ThereforeH3651 will the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, sendH7971 among his fat ones leanness; and under his gloryH3519 there shall be kindled a burningH3344 like the burningH3344 of fireH784. 17And the lightH216 of IsraelH3478 will beH1961 for a fireH784, and his HolyH6918 OneH259 for a flameH3852; and it will burnH1197 and devourH398 his thorns and his briers in oneH259 dayH3117. 18And he will consume the gloryH3519 of his forestH3293, and of his fruitful field, both soulH5315 and bodyH1320: and it shall beH1961 as when a standard-bearer fainteth. 19And the remnantH7605 of the treesH6086 of his forestH3293 shall beH1961 few, so that a child may writeH3789 them.
20And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that the remnantH7605 of IsraelH3478, and they that are escapedH6413 of the houseH1004 of JacobH3290, shall no more againH5750 leanH8172 upon him that smote them, but shall leanH8172 upon Jehovah, the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478, in truthH571. 21A remnantH7605 shall returnH7725, eventhe remnantH7605 of JacobH3290, unto the mightyH1368 GodH410. 22For though thy peopleH5971, IsraelH3478, beH1961 as the sandH2344 of the seaH3220, only a remnantH7605 of them shall returnH7725: a destruction isH1961 determined, overflowingH7857 with righteousnessH6666. 23For a full end, and that determined, will the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, makeH6213 in the midstH7130 of all the earthH776.
24ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, O my peopleH5971 that dwellest in ZionH6726, be not afraidH3372 of the Assyrian, though he smite thee with the rodH7626, and liftH5375 up his staffH4294 against thee, after the manner of EgyptH4714. 25For yetH5750 a very littleH4592 while, and the indignationH2195 against thee shall be accomplished, and mine angerH639 shall be directed to his destruction. 26And Jehovah of hostsH6635 will stirH5782 up against him a scourgeH7752, as in the slaughterH4347 of MidianH4080 at the rockH6697 of OrebH6159: and his rodH4294 will be over the seaH3220, and he will liftH5375 it up after the manner of EgyptH4714. 27And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that his burdenH5448 shall departH5493 from off thy shoulderH7926, and his yokeH5923 from off thy neckH6677, and the yokeH5923 shall beH1961 destroyed by reason of fatnessH8081.
28He is comeH935 to Aiath, he is passedH5674 through MigronH4051; at Michmash he layeth up his baggage; 29they are gone over the passH5674; they have takenH5674 up their lodging at GebaH1387; RamahH7414 trembleth; GibeahH1390 of SaulH7586 is fledH5127. 30Cry aloud with thy voiceH6963, O daughterH1323 of GallimH1554! hearken, O Laishah! O thou poorH6041 AnathothH6068! 31Madmenah is a fugitiveH5074; the inhabitantsH3427 of Gebim fleeH5074 for safety. 32This very dayH3117 shall he halt at NobH5011: he shaketh his handH3027 at the mount of the daughterH1323 of Zion, the hillH2022 of JerusalemH3389.
33Behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, will lop the boughs with terror: and the highH1364 of statureH6967 shall be hewn downH1438, and the loftyH7311 shall be brought lowH8213. 34And he will cut down the thicketsH5442 of the forestH3293 with ironH1270, and LebanonH3844 shall fallH5307 by a mightyH117 oneH117.
