1 And immediately in the morning πρωῒ prōi G4404 the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 , having taken counsel with the elders πρεσβυτέρων presbuterōn G4245 and scribes G1122 and the whole G3650 sanhedrim, bound G1210 Jesus Ἰησοῦν Iēsoun G2424 and carried [ him ] away ἀπήνεγκαν apēnegkan G667 , and delivered παρέδωκαν paredōkan G3860 [ him ] up to Pilate Πιλάτῳ.¶ Pilatō G4091 . 2 And Pilate Πιλᾶτος· Pilatos G4091 asked G1905 him , Art thou the King βασιλεὺς basileus G935 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων; Ioudaiōn G2453 ? And he answered ἀποκριθεὶς apokritheis G611 and said G3004 to him , Thou sayest. 3 And the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 accused G2723 him urgently . 5 But Jesus Ἰησοῦς Iēsous G2424 still answered ἀπεκρίθη apekrithē G611 nothing , so that Pilate Πιλᾶτον. Pilaton G4091 marvelled. 6 But at [ the ] feast ἑορτὴν he'ortēn G1859 he released G630 to them one ἕνα hena G1520 prisoner δέσμιον desmion G1198 , whomsoever they begged [ of him ]. 7 Now G1161 there was G1510 the [person] named Barabbas Βαραββᾶς Barabbas G912 bound G1210 with those who had made G4160 insurrection στάσει stasei G4714 with [ him ], [ and ] that had committed murder φόνον phonon G5408 in the insurrection G4714 . 8 And the crowd ὄχλος ochlos G3793 crying out began G757 to beg [ that he would do ] to them as he had always done . 9 But Pilate Πιλᾶτος Pilatos G4091 answered ἀπεκρίθη apekrithē G611 them saying λέγων· legōn G3004 , Will G2309 ye that I release ἀπολύσω apolusō G630 to you the King βασιλέα basilea G935 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων; Ioudaiōn G2453 ? 10 for he knew G1097 that the chief ἀρχιερεῖς. archiereis G749 priests G749 had delivered παραδεδώκεισαν paradedōkeisan G3860 him up through envy φθόνον phthonon G5355 . 11 But the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 stirred up the crowd ὄχλον ochlon G3793 that he might rather G3123 release ἀπολύσῃ apolusē G630 Barabbas Βαραββᾶν Barabban G912 to them . 12 And Pilate Πιλᾶτος Pilatos G4091 answering ἀποκριθεὶς apokritheis G611 said G3004 to them again πάλιν palin G3825 , What will ye then οὖν oun G3767 that I do [ to him ] whom ye call King βασιλέα basilea G935 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων; Ioudaiōn G2453 ? 14 And Pilate Πιλᾶτος Pilatos G4091 said ἔλεγεν elegen G3004 to them , What evil κακόν; kakon G2556 then G1161 has he done ? But they cried G2896 out the more urgently, Crucify σταύρωσον staurōson G4717 him . 15 And Pilate Πιλᾶτος Pilatos G4091 , desirous of contenting the crowd ὄχλῳ ochlō G3793 , released G630 to them Barabbas Βαραββᾶν Barabban G912 , and delivered παρέδωκεν paredōken G3860 up Jesus Ἰησοῦν Iēsoun G2424 , when he had scourged him , that he might be crucified G4717 . 16 And the soldiers στρατιῶται stratiōtai G4757 led G520 him away ἀπήγαγον apēgagon G520 into the court G833 which is G1510 [ called G4779 the ] praetorium πραιτώριον, praitōrion G4232 , and they call together συγκαλοῦσιν sugkalousin G4779 the whole G3650 band. 17 And they clothe him with purple πορφύραν porphuran G4209 , and bind round on him a crown στέφανον stephanon G4735 of thorns which they had plaited. 18 And they began G757 to salute him , Hail χαῖρε chaire G5463 , King βασιλεῦ basileu G935 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων. Ioudaiōn G2453 ! 19 And they struck G5180 his head κεφαλὴν kephalēn G2776 with a reed καλάμῳ kalamō G2563 , and spat on him , and , bending the knee G1119 , did him homage. 20 And when ὅτε hote G3753 they had mocked ἐνέπαιξαν enepaixan G1702 him , they took the purple πορφύραν porphuran G4209 off him , and put ἐνέδυσαν enedusan G1746 his own G2398 clothes G2440 on him ; and they lead him out that they may crucify σταυρώσωσιν staurōsōsin G4717 him . 21 And they compel to go [ with them ] a certain G5100 passer-by , Simon Σίμωνα Simōna G4613 , a Cyrenian, coming G2064 from the field G68 , the father πατέρα patera G3962 of Alexander Ἀλεξάνδρου Alexandrou G223 and Rufus Ῥούφου, Rhouphou G4504 , that he might carry ἄρῃ arē G142 his cross σταυρὸν stauron G4716 . 22 And they bring φέρουσιν pherousin G5342 him to the place τόπον, topon G5117 [ called ] Golgotha Γολγοθᾶν Golgothan G1115 , which , being G1510 interpreted, is G1510 Place τόπος. topos G5117 of a skull κρανίου kraniou G2898 . 23 And they offered him wine οἶνον· oinon G3631 [ to drink] medicated with myrrh ; but he did not take ἔλαβεν.¶ elaben G2983 [ it ]. 24 And having crucified G4717 him , they part his clothes G2440 amongst [ themselves ], casting βάλλοντες ballontes G906 lots κλῆρον klēron G2819 on them , what each one G3588 should take ἄρῃ. arē G142 . 26 And the superscription of what he was G1510 accused of was G1510 written up: The King βασιλεὺς basileus G935 of the Jews Ἰουδαίων. Ioudaiōn G2453 . 28 [And the scripture was fulfilled which says, And he was reckoned with the lawless.] 29 And they that passed by reviled him , shaking their heads κεφαλὰς kephalas G2776 , and saying λέγοντες· legontes G3004 , Aha, thou that destroyest the temple ναὸν naon G3485 and buildest it in three τρισὶν trisin G5140 days ἡμέραις, hēmerais G2250 , 30 save σῶσον sōson G4982 thyself, and descend καταβὰς katabas G2597 from the cross σταυροῦ. staurou G4716 . 31 In like manner the chief ἀρχιερεῖς archiereis G749 priests G749 also καὶ kai G2532 , with the scribes G1122 , mocking ἐμπαίζοντες empaizontes G1702 with one ἀλλήλους allēlous G240 another , said ἔλεγον· elegon G3004 , He saved G4982 others ἄλλους allous G243 ; himself he cannot save G4982 . 32 Let the Christ χριστός, christos G5547 the King βασιλεὺς basileus G935 of Israel Ἰσραήλ, Israēl G2474 descend καταβάτω katabatō G2597 now νῦν nun G3568 from the cross σταυροῦ staurou G4716 , that we may see G3708 and may believe πιστεύσωμεν pisteusōmen G4100 .
