2lookingG872onlyG872at JesusἸησοῦν,IēsounG2424, theoriginatorἀρχηγὸνarchēgonG747and perfecterτελειωτὴνteleiōtēnG5051of the faithπίστεωςpisteōsG4102,whoὃςhosG3739for the joyχαρᾶςcharasG5479setG4295beforeG4295HimenduredὑπέμεινενhupemeinenG5278the crossσταυρὸνstauronG4716,despisingκαταφρονήσας,kataphronēsasG2706the shameαἰσχύνηςaischunēsG152, and hassatG2523downκεκάθικεν.¶kekathikenG2523at the rightδεξιᾷdexiaG1188handG1188of the throneθρόνουthronouG2362of GodθεοῦtheouG2316.

3ForconsiderἀναλογίσασθεanalogisastheG357Him who has enduredὑπομεμενηκόταhupomemenēkotaG5278suchτοιαύτηνtoiautēnG5108hostilityἀντιλογίαν,antilogianG485by sinnersἁμαρτωλῶνhamartōlōnG268againstεἰςeisG1519Himselfἑαυτὸνhe'autonG1438,soἵναinaG2443thatG2443you will not growG2577wearyG2577and loseἐκλυόμενοι.ekluomenoiG1590heartψυχαῖςpsuchaisG5590.

A Father’s Discipline

4You have not yetοὔπωoupōG3768resistedἀντικατέστητεantikatestēteG478to the pointμέχριςmechrisG3360of shedding bloodαἵματοςaimatosG129in your strivingἀνταγωνιζόμενοιantagōnizomenoiG464againstπρὸςprosG4314sinἁμαρτίανhamartianG266;

5and you have forgottenἐκλέλησθεeklelēstheG1585the exhortationπαρακλήσεωςparaklēseōsG3874whichἥτιςhētisG3748is addressedδιαλέγεται·dialegetaiG1256to you as sonsυἱοῖςhuioisG5207, “My sonυἱέhuieG5207,do not regardG3643lightlyG3643the disciplineπαιδείαςpaideiasG3809of the Lordκυρίου,kuriouG2962,NorμηδὲmēdeG3366faintἐκλύουekluouG1590when you are punishedἐλεγχόμενος.elegchomenosG1651by Him;

6ForwhomὃνhonG3739the Lordκύριος,kuriosG2962lovesἀγαπᾷagapaG25He disciplinesπαιδεύει,paideueiG3811,And He punishesμαστιγοῖmastigoiG3146everyπάνταpantaG3956sonυἱὸνhuionG5207whomὃνhonG3739He acceptsπαραδέχεται.paradechetaiG3858.”

7It is for disciplineπαιδείανpaideianG3809that you endureὑπομένετε,hupomeneteG5278;Godθεός·theosG2316dealsπροσφέρεταιprospheretaiG4374with you as with sonsυἱοῖςhuioisG5207;for whatτίςtisG5101sonυἱὸςhuiosG5207is there whomὃνhonG3739hisfatherπατήρ;patērG3962does not disciplineπαιδεύειpaideueiG3811?

8But ifεἰeiG1487you are withoutχωρίςchōrisG5565disciplineπαιδείαςpaideiasG3809,of whichἧςhēsG3739allπάντες,pantesG3956have becomeγεγόνασινgegonasinG1096partakersμέτοχοιmetochoiG3353,thenἄραaraG686you are illegitimateG3541childrenG3541and not sonsυἱοίhuioiG5207.

9FurthermoreεἶταeitaG1534,we hadεἴχομενeichomenG2192earthlyσαρκὸςsarkosG4561fathersπατέραςpaterasG3962to disciplineπαιδευτὰςpaideutasG3810us, and werespectedἐνετρεπόμεθα·enetrepomethaG1788them;shall we not muchπολὺpoluG4183moreμᾶλλονmallonG3123beG5293subjectG5293tothe FatherπατρὶpatriG3962ofspiritsπνευμάτωνpneumatōnG4151, andliveζήσομεν;zēsomenG2198?

10For they disciplinedἐπαίδευον,epaideuonG3811usfor a shortὀλίγαςoligasG3641timeἡμέραςhēmerasG2250as seemedG1380bestδοκοῦνdokounG1380to them, but He disciplines us for ourgoodσυμφέρονsumpheronG4851,soG1519thatG1519we may shareμεταλαβεῖνmetalabeinG3335His holinessἁγιότητοςhagiotētosG41.

11For the momentπαρὸνparonG3918,allπᾶσαpasaG3956disciplineπαιδείαpaideiaG3809seemsδοκεῖdokeiG1380not to be pleasantχαρᾶςcharasG5479,but painfulλύπης,lupēsG3077;yetG1161to thoseG3588who have been trainedγεγυμνασμένοιςgegumnasmenoisG1128by it, afterwardG5305it yieldsἀποδίδωσινapodidōsinG591thepeacefulεἰρηνικὸνeirēnikonG1516fruitκαρπὸνkarponG2590of righteousnessδικαιοσύνης.¶dikaiosunēsG1343.

12ThereforeΔιὸDioG1352,strengthenἀνορθώσατε,anorthōsateG461the handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495that are weakπαρειμέναςpareimenasG3935and the kneesγόναταgonataG1119that are feebleπαραλελυμέναparalelumenaG3886,

13andmakeποιεῖτεpoieiteG4160straightὀρθὰςorthasG3717pathsτροχιὰςtrochiasG5163for your feetποσὶνposinG4228,soἵναinaG2443thatG2443the limbwhich is impairedχωλὸνchōlonG5560may not be dislocatedἐκτραπῇ,ektrapēaG1624,but ratherμᾶλλον.mallonG3123be healedἰαθῇiathēaG2390.

14PursueδιώκετεdiōketeG1377peaceεἰρήνηνeirēnēnG1515with allG3956peopleG3956, and theholinessἁγιασμόν,hagiasmonG38withoutχωρὶςchōrisG5565whichοὗhouG3739noG3762oneοὐδεὶςoudeisG3762willseeG3708the Lordκύριον·kurionG2962.

17For you knowG3609that evenκαὶkaiG2532afterwardμετέπειταmetepeitaG3347,when he wantedθέλωνthelōnG2309to inheritκληρονομῆσαιklēronomēsaiG2816the blessingεὐλογίανeulogianG2129,he was rejectedἀπεδοκιμάσθη·apedokimasthēG593,for he foundεὗρενheurenG2147noοὐχouchG3756placeτόπονtoponG5117for repentanceμετανοίαςmetanoiasG3341,thoughκαίπερkaiperG2539he soughtἐκζητήσαςekzētēsasG1567for it with tearsδακρύωνdakruōnG1144.

19and to theblastἤχῳēchōG2279of a trumpetσάλπιγγοςsalpingosG4536and thesoundφωνῇphōnēaG5456of wordsῥημάτων,rhēmatōnG4487,whichἧςhēsG3739sound was such thatthoseοἱhoiG3588who heardἀκούσαντεςakousantesG191beggedπαρῃτήσαντοparētēsantoG3868that noμὴmēG3361furtherG4369wordλόγον·logonG3056be spokenG4369to them.

20For they could notcopeG5342withG5342the commandδιαστελλόμενον·diastellomenonG1291, “IfG2579evenG2579an animalθηρίονthērionG2342touchesθίγῃthigēG2345the mountainὄρους,orousG3735,it shall be stonedλιθοβοληθήσεταιlithobolēthēsetaiG3036.”

21And soοὕτωhoutōG3779terribleφοβερὸνphoberonG5398was the sightφανταζόμενον,phantazomenonG5324, thatMosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475saidG3004, “I amG1510terrifiedἔκφοβόςekphobosG1630and tremblingἔντρομος·entromosG1790.”

22Butyou have comeπροσεληλύθατεproselēluthateG4334to MountὄρειoreiG3735ZionΣιὼνSiōnG4622and tothe cityπόλειpoleiG4172ofthe livingζῶντος,zōntosG2198GodθεοῦtheouG2316,the heavenlyἐπουρανίῳepouraniōG2032JerusalemἸερουσαλὴμIerousalēmG2419, and tomyriadsμυριάσινmuriasinG3461ofangelsἀγγέλωνangelōnG32,

23to the generalG3831assemblyG3831andchurchἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiaG1577of the firstbornπρωτοτόκωνprōtotokōnG4416whoare enrolledἀπογεγραμμένωνapogegrammenōnG583in heavenοὐρανοῖςouranoisG3772,and to GodθεῷtheōG2316,the JudgeκριτῇkritēaG2923of allπάντωνpantōnG3956, and to thespiritsπνεύμασινpneumasinG4151of therighteousδικαίωνdikaiōnG1342madeG5048perfectτετελειωμένωνteteleiōmenōnG5048,

24and to JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424, themediatorμεσίτῃmesitēG3316of a newνέαςneasG3501covenantδιαθήκηςdiathēkēsG1242, and to thesprinkledῥαντισμοῦrhantismouG4473bloodαἵματιaimatiG129,which speaksλαλοῦντιlalountiG2980betterG2909thanπαρὰparaG3844the bloodof AbelἍβελ.¶HabelG6.

ForifεἰeiG1487thoseἐκεῖνοιekeinoiG1565did not escapeἐξέφυγονexephugonG1628when theyrefusedπαραιτησάμενοιparaitēsamenoiG3868him whowarnedχρηματίζοντα,chrēmatizontaG5537themon earthγῆςgēsG1093,muchπολὺpoluG4183lessμᾶλλονmallonG3123will we escapewho turnG654awayἀποστρεφόμενοι,apostrephomenoiG654from Him who warns usfrom heavenοὐρανῶνouranōnG3772.

26AndHis voiceφωνὴphōnēG5456shookἐσάλευσενesaleusenG4531the earthγῆνgēnG1093thenτότε,toteG5119,but nowνῦνnunG3568He has promisedἐπήγγελταιepēngeltaiG1861,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004, “YetἔτιetiG2089onceἅπαξhapaxG530moreG530I will shakeσείσωseisōG4579not onlyG3440the earthγῆνgēnG1093,but alsoκαὶkaiG2532the heavenοὐρανόν.ouranonG3772.”

27ThisG3588expression, “YetἔτιetiG2089onceἅπαξ,hapaxG530moreG530,”denotesδηλοῖdēloiG1213the removingμετάθεσινmetathesinG3331of thoseG3588things which can be shakenσαλευομένωνsaleuomenōnG4531,as of createdG4160thingsG4160,soἵναinaG2443thatG2443thoseG3588things which cannotμὴmēG3361be shakenσαλευόμενα.saleuomenaG4531may remainμείνῃmeinēG3306.

28ThereforeδιὸdioG1352,since we receiveπαραλαμβάνοντεςparalambanontesG3880akingdomβασιλείανbasileianG932which cannotG761beG761shakenG761, let’sshowἔχωμενechōmenG2192gratitudeχάρινcharinG5485,by whichἧςhēsG3739we mayofferG3000to GodθεῷtheōG2316an acceptableεὐαρέστωςeuarestōsG2102serviceG3000with reverenceεὐλαβείαςeulabeiasG2124and aweG1190;
