1 John 2
Christ Is Our Advocate
11My little children, I am 2writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, 3we have an 45Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2and He Himself is 6the 7propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also 8for the sins of the whole world.
39By this we know that we have come to 10know Him, if we 11keep His commandments. 4The one who says, “12I have come to 13know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a 14liar, and 15the truth is not in him; 5but whoever 16follows His word, in him the 17love of God has truly been perfected. 18By this we know that we are in Him: 6the one who says that he 19remains in Him 20ought, himself also, to walk just as He walked.
721Beloved, I am 22not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had 23from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 824On the other hand, I am writing 25a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because 26the darkness is passing away and 27the true Light is already shining. 9The one who says that he is in the Light and yet 28hates his 29brother or sister is in the darkness until now. 1030The one who loves his brother and sister remains in the Light, and there is nothing in him to cause stumbling. 11But the one who 31hates his brother or sister is in the darkness and 32walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has 33blinded his eyes.
12I am writing to you, 34little children, because 35your sins have been forgiven you on account of His name. 13I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him 36who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because 37you have overcome 38the evil one. I have written to you, children, because 39you know the Father. 14I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him 40who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are 41strong, and the 42word of God remains in you, and 43you have overcome the evil one.
Do Not Love the World
15Do not love 44the world nor the things in the world. 45If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, 46the lust of the flesh and 47the lust of the eyes and 48the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 1749The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who 50does the will of God continues to live forever.
18Children, 51it is the last hour; and just as you heard that 52antichrist is coming, 53even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 1954They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, 55so that 56it would be evident that they all are not of us. 2057But you have an 58anointing from 59the Holy One, and 60you all know. 21I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but 61because you do know it, and 62because no lie is 63of the truth. 22Who is the liar except 64the one who denies that Jesus is the 65Christ? This is 66the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 2367Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24As for you, see that what you heard 68from the beginning remains in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also 69will remain in the Son and in the Father.
The Promise Is Eternal Life
2570This is the promise which He Himself 71made to us: eternal life.
26These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to 72deceive you. 27And as for you, the 73anointing which you received from Him remains in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing 74teaches you about all things, and is 75true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, 76you remain in Him.
28Now, 77little children, remain in Him, so that when He 78appears, we may have 79confidence and 80not 81draw back from Him in shame 82at His 83coming. 29If you know that 84He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness also 85has been born of Him.
