16But evenG2532ifἐὰνeanG1437I do judgeκρίνωkrinōG2919,My judgmentκρίσιςkrisisG2920is trueἀληθινήalēthinēG228;for I amG1510not aloneμόνοςmonosG3441in it,but I and the Father who sentπέμψαςpempsasG3992Me.

17EvenκαὶkaiG2532inyour LawνόμῳnomōG3551it has been writtenγέγραπταιgegraptaiG1125that the testimonyμαρτυρίαmarturiaG3141oftwoδύοduoG1417peopleἀνθρώπωνanthrōpōnG444istrueἀληθήςalēthēsG227.

22SoοὖνounG3767the JewsἸουδαῖοι·IoudaioiG2453were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004, “SurelyμήτιmētiG3385He will not killἀποκτενεῖapokteneiG615Himselfἑαυτόν,he'autonG1438,will He, sinceὅτιhotiG3754He saysλέγει·legeiG3004, ‘WhereὅπουhopouG3699I am goingὑπάγωhupagōG5217,you cannotοὐ δύνασθεou dunastheG1410 G3756comeἐλθεῖν;eltheinG2064’?”

23And He was sayingἔλεγενelegenG3004to them, “You are from belowκάτωkatōG2736,I amG1510from aboveἄνωanōG507;you are of thisτούτουtoutouG3778worldκόσμουkosmouG2889,I amG1510not of thisτούτου.toutouG3778worldκόσμουkosmouG2889.

24ThereforeοὖνounG3767I saidG3004to you that youwill dieἀποθανεῖσθεapothaneistheG599in your sinsἁμαρτίαιςhamartiaisG266;for unlessἐὰν μὴean mēG1437 G3361you believeπιστεύσητεpisteusēteG4100thatI amεἰμι,eimiG1510,you will dieἀποθανεῖσθεapothaneistheG599in your sinsἁμαρτίαιςhamartiaisG266.”

25ThenοὖνounG3767they were sayingἔλεγονelegonG3004to Him, “WhoG5101are You?” JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them, “WhatὅhoG3739 G5101have I evenκαὶkaiG2532been sayingλαλῶlalōG2980to you fromthe beginningἀρχὴνarchēnG746?

26I haveἔχωechōG2192manyπολλὰpollaG4183thingsG4183to sayλαλεῖνlaleinG2980and to judgeκρίνειν·krineinG2919regardingπερὶperiG4012you, butHe who sentπέμψαςpempsasG3992Me is trueἀληθήςalēthēsG227; andthe things whichἃhaG3739I heardἤκουσαēkousaG191from Him, theseταῦταtautaG3778I sayλαλῶlalōG2980to the worldκόσμον.kosmonG2889.”

27They did not realizeἔγνωσανegnōsanG1097that He was speakingἔλεγεν.elegenG3004to them aboutthe FatherπατέραpateraG3962.

28SoοὖνounG3767JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004,“WhenὅτανhotanG3752youliftὑψώσητεhupsōsēteG5312upG5312the SonυἱὸνhuionG5207of Manἀνθρώπου,anthrōpouG444,thenτότεtoteG5119you will knowγνώσεσθεgnōsestheG1097thatI amεἰμι,eimiG1510, andI doποιῶpoiōG4160nothingοὐδέν,oudenG3762on My ownG1683,but I sayλαλῶ.lalōG2980theseG3778thingsταῦταtautaG3778as the FatherπατὴρpatērG3962instructedἐδίδαξένedidaxenG1321Me.

29And He who sentπέμψαςpempsasG3992Me is with Me; Hehas not leftἀφῆκένaphēkenG863Me aloneμόνονmononG3441, forI alwaysπάντοτε.pantoteG3842doποιῶpoiōG4160the thingsG701thatG701areG701pleasingἀρεστὰarestaG701to Him.”

30As He saidλαλοῦντοςlalountosG2980theseG3778thingsταῦταtautaG3778,manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183came to believeἐπίστευσανepisteusanG4100in Him.

31SoοὖνounG3767JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424was sayingἜλεγενElegenG3004to thoseG3588JewsἸουδαίους·IoudaiousG2453who had believedπεπιστευκόταςpepisteukotasG4100Him, “IfἐὰνeanG1437you continueμείνητεmeinēteG3306in My wordλόγῳlogōG3056, thenyou are trulyἀληθῶςalēthōsG230MydisciplesμαθηταίmathētaiG3101;

32andyou will knowγνώσεσθεgnōsestheG1097the truthἀλήθειαν,alētheianG225, andthe truthἀλήθειαalētheiaG225will setἐλευθερώσειeleutherōseiG1659you freeG1659.”

33They answeredἀπεκρίθησανapekrithēsanG611Him, “We are Abraham’sἈβραάμAbraamG11descendantsσπέρμαspermaG4690and have neverπώποτε·pōpoteG3762 G4455been enslavedδεδουλεύκαμενdedouleukamenG1398to anyoneG3762;howπῶςpōsG4459is it thatYou sayλέγειςlegeisG3004,‘You will becomeγενήσεσθε;genēsestheG1096freeἐλεύθεροιeleutheroiG1658’?”

34JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἀπεκρίθηapekrithēG611them,“TrulyἀμὴνamēnG281,trulyἀμὴνamēnG281I sayλέγωlegōG3004to you,everyoneπᾶςpasG3956who commitsποιῶνpoiōnG4160sinἁμαρτίαν,hamartianG266is a slaveδοῦλόςdoulosG1401of sinἁμαρτίας.hamartiasG266.

35NowδὲdeG1161the slaveδοῦλοςdoulosG1401does not remainμένειmeneiG3306in the houseοἰκίᾳoikiaG3614foreverαἰῶνα·aiōnaG165;the sonυἱὸςhuiosG5207does remainμένειmeneiG3306foreverαἰῶνα.aiōnaG165.

36SoοὖνounG3767ifἐὰνeanG1437the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207setsἐλευθερώσῃ,eleutherōsēG1659you freeG1659,you reallyὄντωςontōsG3689will be freeἐλεύθεροιeleutheroiG1658.

37I knowG3609that you areAbraham’sἈβραάμAbraamG11descendantsσπέρμαspermaG4690;yetἀλλὰallaG235you are seekingζητεῖτέzēteiteG2212to killἀποκτεῖναι,apokteinaiG615Me, becauseG3754My wordλόγοςlogosG3056hasG5562noοὐouG3756placeG5562in you.

38I speakλαλῶ·lalōG2980of the things whichἃhaG3739I have seenἑώρακαhe'ōrakaG3708with MyFatherπατρὶpatriG3962;thereforeοὖνounG3767you alsoκαὶkaiG2532doποιεῖτε.¶poieiteG4160the things whichἃhaG3739you heardἠκούσατεēkousateG191from yourfatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962.”

39They answeredἈπεκρίθησανApekrithēsanG611and saidλέγειlegeiG3004to Him, “AbrahamἈβραάμAbraamG11isour fatherπατὴρpatērG3962.”JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them, “IfεἰeiG1487you are Abraham’sἈβραάμAbraamG11childrenτέκναteknaG5043,doἐποιεῖτεepoieiteG4160the deedsἔργαergaG2041of AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11.

40But as it is,you are seekingζητεῖτέzēteiteG2212to killἀποκτεῖναι,apokteinaiG615Me, a ManἄνθρωπονanthrōponG444whoὃςhosG3739hastoldλελάληκαlelalēkaG2980you the truthἀλήθειανalētheianG225,whichἣνhēnG3739I heardἤκουσαēkousaG191from Godθεοῦ·theouG2316;thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11did not doἐποίησεν.epoiēsenG4160.

41You are doingποιεῖτεpoieiteG4160the deedsἔργαergaG2041ofyour fatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962.”They saidG3004to Him, “We were not bornγεγεννήμεθα·gegennēmethaG1080as a resultἐκekG1537of sexualπορνείαςporneiasG4202immoralityG4202;we haveἔχομενechomenG2192oneἕναhenaG1520FatherπατέραpateraG3962:Godθεόν.¶theonG2316.”

42JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them,“IfεἰeiG1487GodθεὸςtheosG2316were your FatherπατὴρpatērG3962,you would loveἠγαπᾶτεēgapateG25Me,for I cameG1831forthἐξῆλθονexēlthonG1831from GodθεοῦtheouG2316and amG2240hereG2240; for I havenot evenοὐδὲoudeG3761comeἐλήλυθα,elēluthaG2064on My ownG1683, butHe sentἀπέστειλεν.apesteilenG649Me.

43Whyδιὰ τίdia tiG1223 G5101do you not understandγινώσκετε;ginōsketeG1097whatG2981I am sayingG2981? It isbecauseὅτιhotiG3754you cannotδύνασθεdunastheG1410 G3756listenἀκούεινakoueinG191to My wordλόγονlogonG3056.

44You are of yourfatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962the devilδιαβόλουdiabolouG1228, andyou wantθέλετεtheleteG2309to doποιεῖν.poieinG4160the desiresἐπιθυμίαςepithumiasG1939of your fatherπατρὸςpatrosG3962.He was a murdererἀνθρωποκτόνοςanthrōpoktonosG443from the beginningἀρχῆςarchēsG746,and does not standG4739in the truthἀληθείᾳalētheiaG225becauseὅτιhotiG3754there is noG3756truthἀλήθειαalētheiaG225in him. 45But becauseὅτιhotiG3754I sayλέγω,legōG3004the truthἀλήθειανalētheianG225,you do not believeπιστεύετέpisteueteG4100Me.

46WhichG5101oneG5101of you convictsἐλέγχειelegcheiG1651Me of sinἁμαρτίας;hamartiasG266?IfεἰeiG1487I speakλέγω,legōG3004truthἀλήθειανalētheianG225,whyδιὰdiaG1223 G5101do you not believeπιστεύετέpisteueteG4100Me?

47The one who is of GodθεοῦtheouG2316hearsἀκούει·akoueiG191the wordsῥήματαrhēmataG4487of GodθεοῦtheouG2316;for thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778reasonδιὰdiaG1223you do not hearἀκούετε,akoueteG191them,becauseὅτιhotiG3754you are not of GodθεοῦtheouG2316.”

48The JewsἸουδαῖοιIoudaioiG2453answeredἈπεκρίθησανApekrithēsanG611and saidλέγομενlegomenG3004to Him, “Do we not rightlyκαλῶςkalōsG2573sayG3004that You are aSamaritanΣαμαρίτηςSamaritēsG4541, and Youhaveἔχεις;¶echeisG2192a demonδαιμόνιονdaimonionG1140?”

49JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἈπεκρίθηApekrithēG611, “I do nothaveἔχω,echōG2192a demonδαιμόνιονdaimonionG1140;onG235theG235contraryG235,I honorτιμῶtimōG5091My FatherπατέραpateraG3962,and you dishonorἀτιμάζετέatimazeteG818Me.

50ButI am not seekingζητῶzētōG2212My gloryδόξανdoxanG1391;there is One who seeksζητῶνzētōnG2212it,and judgesκρίνων.¶krinōnG2919.

51TrulyἈμὴνAmēnG281,trulyἀμὴνamēnG281I sayλέγωlegōG3004to you, ifἐάνeanG1437anyoneτιςtisG5100followsτηρήσῃ,tērēsēG5083My wordλόγονlogonG3056,he will neverοὐ μὴou mēG3756 G3361seeθεωρήσῃtheōrēsēG2334deathθάνατονthanatonG2288.”

54JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424answeredἈπεκρίθηApekrithēG611, “IfἐὰνeanG1437I glorifyδοξάσωdoxasōG1392MyselfG1683,My gloryδόξαdoxaG1391is nothingοὐδένoudenG3762;it is My FatherπατήρpatērG3962who glorifiesδοξάζωνdoxazōnG1392Me, of whomὃνhonG3739you sayλέγετεlegeteG3004, ‘He is our GodθεὸςtheosG2316’;

55andyou have not come to knowἐγνώκατεegnōkateG1097Him,but I knowG3609Him. And ifG2579I sayG3004that I do not knowG3609Him, I will bea liarψεύστης·pseustēsG5583likeὅμοιοςhomoiosG3664you;but I do knowG3609Him, and Ifollowτηρῶ.¶tērōG5083His wordλόγονlogonG3056.

59ThereforeοὖνounG3767theypickedG142upG142stonesλίθουςlithousG3037to throwβάλωσινbalōsinG906at Him, but JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424hidἐκρύβηekrubēG2928Himself and leftἐξῆλθενexēlthenG1831the templeG2413grounds.
