2AndStephen saidἔφη·ephēG5346, “Listenἀκούσατε.akousateG191to me,brothersἄνδρες ἀδελφοὶandres adelphoiG435 G80and fathersπατέρες,pateresG3962!The GodθεὸςtheosG2316of gloryδόξηςdoxēsG1391appearedG3708to our fatherπατρὶpatriG3962AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11when he was in MesopotamiaΜεσοποταμίᾳMesopotamiaG3318,beforeπρὶνprinG4250he livedκατοικῆσαιkatoikēsaiG2730inHaranΧαρράν,CharranG5488,

3and He saidG3004to him, ‘GoἔξελθεexeltheG1831fromG1831your countryγῆςgēsG1093and your relativesσυγγενείαςsungeneiasG4772,and comeδεῦροdeuroG1204to the landγῆνgēnG1093whichἣνhēnG3739I will showδείξω.¶deixōG1166you.’

4ThenΤότεToteG5119he leftἐξελθὼνexelthōnG1831the landγῆςgēsG1093of the ChaldeansΧαλδαίωνChaldaiōnG5466and settledκατῴκησενkatōkēsenG2730inHaranΧαρράν·CharranG5488. AndfromG2547thereG2547,afterμετὰmetaG3326his fatherπατέραpateraG3962diedἀποθανεῖνapothaneinG599, Godhad him moveμετῴκισενmetōkisenG3351to thisταύτηνtautēnG3778countryγῆνgēnG1093in whichἣνhēnG3739you are nowνῦνnunG3568livingκατοικεῖτε,katoikeiteG2730.

5But He gaveἔδωκενedōkenG1325him noG3756inheritanceκληρονομίανklēronomianG2817in it, not evenοὐδὲoudeG3761a footποδὸςpodosG4228of groundβῆμαbēmaG968, and yet,He promisedἐπηγγείλατοepēngeilatoG1861that He would giveδοῦναιdounaiG1325it to him as a possessionκατάσχεσινkataschesinG2697,and to his descendantsσπέρματιspermatiG4690afterμετ᾽met᾽G3326him, eventhough he had no childτέκνου.teknouG5043.

6ButGodθεός,theosG2316spokeἐλάλησενelalēsenG2980toG3779thisG3779effectG3779, that hisdescendantsσπέρμαspermaG4690would be strangersπάροικονparoikonG3941in a landγῇgēaG1093that was notG245theirsG245, andthey would enslaveδουλώσουσινdoulōsousinG1402and mistreatκακώσουσινkakōsousinG2559themfor fourτετρακόσια.tetrakosiaG5071hundredG5071yearsἔτηetēG2094.

7‘And whateverἐὰνeanG3739 G1437nationἔθνοςethnosG1484to whichG3739they are enslavedG1398I Myselfἐγώ,egōG1473will judgeκρινῶkrinōG2919,’saidG3004GodθεὸςtheosG2316, ‘andafterμετὰmetaG3326that they will comeἐξελεύσονταιexeleusontaiG1831out andserveλατρεύσουσίνlatreusousinG3000Me in thisG3778placeτόπῳtopōG5117.’

8And HegaveἔδωκενedōkenG1325himthe covenantδιαθήκηνdiathēkēnG1242of circumcisionπεριτομῆς·peritomēsG4061;and soοὕτωςhoutōsG3779AbrahamfatheredἐγέννησενegennēsenG1080IsaacἸσαὰκIsaakG2464,and circumcisedπεριέτεμενperietemenG4059him on the eighthὀγδόῃ,ogdoēG3590dayἡμέρᾳhēmeraG2250; andIsaacἸσαὰκIsaakG2464fatheredJacobἸακώβ,IakōbG2384, andJacobἸακὼβIakōbG2384,the twelveδώδεκαdōdekaG1427patriarchsπατριάρχας.patriarchasG3966.

9“The patriarchsπατριάρχαιpatriarchaiG3966becameG2206jealousG2206of JosephἸωσὴφIōsēphG2501and soldἀπέδοντοapedontoG591him into EgyptΑἴγυπτον·AiguptonG125. YetGodθεὸςtheosG2316was with him,

10and rescuedἐξείλατοexeilatoG1807him from allπασῶνpasōnG3956his afflictionsθλίψεωνthlipseōnG2347, andgrantedἔδωκενedōkenG1325him favorχάρινcharinG5485and wisdomσοφίανsophianG4678inG1726theG1726sightG1726of PharaohΦαραὼPharaōG5328,kingβασιλέωςbasileōsG935of EgyptΑἰγύπτουAiguptouG125,and he madeκατέστησενkatestēsenG2525him governorἡγούμενονhēgoumenonG2233overG1909EgyptΑἴγυπτονAiguptonG125and his entireὅλονholonG3650householdοἶκονoikonG3624.

11“NowδὲdeG1161a famineλιμὸςlimosG3042cameἦλθενēlthenG2064overἐφ᾽eph᾽G1909allὅληνholēnG3650EgyptΑἴγυπτονAiguptonG125and CanaanΧανάανChanaanG5477,and greatμεγάληmegalēG3173afflictionθλῖψιςthlipsisG2347with it,and our fathersπατέρεςpateresG3962could findηὕρισκονhēuriskonG2147noοὐχouchG3756foodχορτάσματαchortasmataG5527.

12Butwhen JacobἸακὼβIakōbG2384heardἈκούσαςAkousasG191that there was grainG4619in EgyptΑἴγυπτονAiguptonG125,he sentἐξαπέστειλενexapesteilenG1821our fathersπατέραςpaterasG3962therethe firstπρῶτον,prōtonG4413timeG4413.

13And on the secondδευτέρῳdeuterōG1208visit,JosephἸωσὴφIōsēphG2501madeG1107himself knownG1107to his brothersἀδελφοῖςadelphoisG80, andJoseph’sἸωσήφ.IōsēphG2501familyγένοςgenosG1085was revealedφανερὸνphaneronG5318to PharaohΦαραὼPharaōG5328.

14ThenκαὶkaiG2532JosephἸωσὴφIōsēphG2501sentἀποστείλαςaposteilasG649wordand invitedμετεκαλέσατοmetekalesatoG3333his fatherπατέραpateraG3962JacobἸακὼβIakōbG2384and allπᾶσανpasanG3956his relativesσυγγένειανsungeneianG4772to come to him,seventy-fiveἑβδομήκοντα πέντε.hebdomēkonta penteG1440 G4002peopleψυχαῖςpsuchaisG5590in all.

15AndJacobἸακὼβIakōbG2384wentG2597downκατέβηkatebēG2597to EgyptΑἴγυπτον,AiguptonG125,and he and our fathersπατέρεςpateresG3962diedἐτελεύτησενeteleutēsenG5053there.

16And they were broughtG3346backG3346from there toShechemΣυχὲμSuchemG4966and laidἐτέθησανetethēsanG5087in the tombμνήματιmnēmatiG3418whichᾧhōG3739AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11had purchasedὠνήσατοōnēsatoG5608for a sumτιμῆςtimēsG5092of moneyἀργυρίουarguriouG694from the sonsυἱῶνhuiōnG5207ofHamorἙμμὼρHemmōrG1697inShechemΣυχέμ.SuchemG4966.

17“But as thetimeχρόνοςchronosG5550of the promiseἐπαγγελίαςepangeliasG1860whichἧςhēsG3739GodθεὸςtheosG2316had assuredὡμολόγησενhōmologēsenG3670to AbrahamἈβραάμ,AbraamG11was approachingἤγγιζενēngizenG1448,the peopleλαὸςlaosG2992increasedηὔξησενēuxēsenG837and multipliedἐπληθύνθηeplēthunthēG4129in EgyptΑἰγύπτῳAiguptōG125,

18untilἄχριachriG891anotherἕτεροςheterosG2087kingβασιλεὺςbasileusG935aroseἀνέστηanestēG450overἐπ᾽ep᾽G1909EgyptΑἴγυπτονAiguptonG125whoG3739did not knowG3609JosephἸωσήφ.IōsēphG2501.

19It was he whoshrewdlyG2686tookG2686advantageG2686ofG2686our nationγένοςgenosG1085and mistreatedἐκάκωσενekakōsenG2559our fathersπατέραςpaterasG3962in order that they wouldabandonποιεῖν ἔκθεταpoiein ekthetaG4160 G1570their infantsβρέφηbrephēG1025in the Nile,soG1519thatG1519they would not surviveζῳογονεῖσθαι.zōogoneisthaiG2225.

20At thisG3739timeκαιρῷkairōG2540MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475was bornἐγεννήθηegennēthēG1080;and he was beautifulἀστεῖοςasteiosG791to Godθεῷ·theōG2316.He was nurturedἀνετράφηanetraphēG397for threeτρεῖςtreisG5140monthsμῆναςmēnasG3376in his father’sπατρόςpatrosG3962homeοἴκῳoikōG3624.

21And after he had been putG1620outsideG1620,Pharaoh’sΦαραὼPharaōG5328daughterθυγάτηρthugatērG2364tookG337him awayG337and nurturedἀνεθρέψατοanethrepsatoG397him as her ownἑαυτῇhe'autēaG1438sonυἱόν.huionG5207.

22MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475was educatedἐπαιδεύθηepaideuthēG3811in allπάσῃpasēG3956the wisdomσοφίᾳsophiaG4678of the EgyptiansΑἰγυπτίων·AiguptiōnG124,and he was proficientδυνατὸςdunatosG1415inspeakingλόγοιςlogoisG3056and actionἔργοιςergoisG2041.

23But whenὡςhōsG5613he was approachingἐπληροῦτοeplēroutoG4137the ageχρόνος,chronosG5550of fortyG5066,it enteredἀνέβηanebēG305hismindκαρδίανkardianG2588to visitἐπισκέψασθαιepiskepsasthaiG1980his countrymenἀδελφοὺςadelphousG80,the sonsυἱοὺςhuiousG5207of IsraelἸσραήλ.IsraēlG2474.

24And when he sawG3708oneτιναtinaG5100of thembeing treatedG91unjustlyG91,he defendedἠμύνατοēmunatoG292and tookἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160vengeanceἐκδίκησινekdikēsinG1557for the oppressedG2669manG2669by fatallystrikingπατάξαςpataxasG3960the EgyptianΑἰγύπτιον.AiguptionG124.

25And he thoughtἐνόμιζενenomizenG3543that his brothersἀδελφοὺςadelphousG80understoodσυνιέναιsunienaiG4920that GodθεὸςtheosG2316was grantingδίδωσινdidōsinG1325themdeliveranceσωτηρίανsōtērianG4991throughδιὰdiaG1223him; but they did not understandσυνῆκαν.sunēkanG4920.

26And on the followingG1897dayἡμέρᾳhēmeraG2250he appearedG3708to them as they were fightingG3164eachG3164otherG3164,and he tried to reconcileG4871them to peaceεἰρήνηνeirēnēnG1515,by sayingG3004, ‘Menἄνδρες,andresG435,you are brothersἀδελφοίadelphoiG80,whyἱνατίhinatitisG2443 G5101are you injuringἀδικεῖτεadikeiteG91eachG240otherG240?’

27But the one who was injuringἀδικῶνadikōnG91his neighborπλησίονplēsionG4139pushedG683him awayἀπώσατοapōsatoG683,sayingG3004, ‘WhoτίςtisG5101madeκατέστησενkatestēsenG2525you a rulerἄρχονταarchontaG758and judgeδικαστὴνdikastēnG1348overἐφ᾽eph᾽G1909us?

28You do not intendθέλειςtheleisG2309to killἀνελεῖνaneleinG337me as you killedἀνεῖλεςaneilesG337the EgyptianΑἰγύπτιον;AiguptionG124yesterdayG2189, do you?’

29At thisτούτῳtoutōG3778remarkλόγῳlogōG3056,MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475fledἔφυγενephugenG5343and becameἐγένετοegenetoG1096a strangerπάροικοςparoikosG3941in the landγῇgēaG1093ofMidianΜαδιάμ,MadiamG3099,whereοὗhouG3757hefatheredἐγέννησενegennēsenG1080twoδύο.duoG1417sonsυἱοὺςhuiousG5207.

30“After fortyG5065yearsἐτῶνetōnG2094had passedπληρωθέντωνplērōthentōnG4137,an angelἄγγελοςangelosG32appearedG3708to him in the wildernessἐρήμῳerēmōG2048of MountὄρουςorousG3735SinaiΣινᾶSinaG4614,in the flameφλογὶphlogiG5395of a burningπυρὸςpurosG4442thornG942bushβάτου.batouG942.

31When MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475sawG3708it,he wasG2296astonishedG2296at the sightὅραμα·horamaG3705;and as he approachedπροσερχομένουproserchomenouG4334to lookG2657morecloselyG2657,the voiceφωνὴphōnēG5456of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962cameἐγένετοegenetoG1096:

32‘I am the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of your fathersπατέρωνpaterōnG3962,the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11,and IsaacἸσαὰκIsaakG2464,and JacobἸακώβ.IakōbG2384.’MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475shookG1790withG1790fearG1790and did not dareἐτόλμαetolmaG5111to lookG2657closelyG2657.

33But theLordκύριος·kuriosG2962saidG3004to him, ‘RemoveλῦσονlusonG3089your sandalsὑπόδημαhupodēmaG5266from your feetποδῶνpodōnG4228,for the placeτόποςtoposG5117on whichᾧhōG3739you are standingἕστηκαςhestēkasG2476is holyἁγίαhagiaG40groundγῆgēG1093.

34I have certainlyG3708seenG3708the oppressionκάκωσινkakōsinG2561of My peopleλαοῦlaouG2992who are in EgyptΑἰγύπτῳAiguptōG125,and have heardἤκουσα·ēkousaG191their groaningστεναγμοῦstenagmouG4726,and I have comeκατέβηνkatebēnG2597downG2597to rescueἐξελέσθαιexelesthaiG1807them; andnowνῦνnunG3568comeδεῦροdeuroG1204,I will sendἀποστείλωaposteilōG649you to EgyptΑἴγυπτον.¶AiguptonG125.’

37ThisοὗτόςhoutosG3778is the MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475who saidG3004to the sonsυἱοῖςhuioisG5207of IsraelἸσραήλ·IsraēlG2474, ‘GodθεὸςtheosG2316will raiseἀναστήσειanastēseiG450up for you a prophetπροφήτηνprophētēnG4396likeὡςhōsG5613me from your countrymenἀδελφῶνadelphōnG80.’
