Concerning Divorce

2andlargeπολλοί,polloiG4183crowdsὄχλοιochloiG3793followedἠκολούθησανēkolouthēsanG190Him, andHe healedἐθεράπευσενetherapeusenG2323them thereἐκεῖ.ekeiG1563.

3SomePhariseesΦαρισαῖοιPharisaioiG5330cameπροσῆλθονprosēlthonG4334toJesus, testingπειράζοντεςpeirazontesG3985Him and askingλέγοντεςlegontesG3004, “Is it lawfulἔξεστινexestinG1832for a man todivorceἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630his wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135for anyG3956reasonαἰτίαν;¶aitianG156at allG3956?”

4And He answeredἀποκριθεὶςapokritheisG611and saidG3004,“Have you not readἀνέγνωτεanegnōteG314that He who createdκτίσαςktisasG2936themfrom the beginningἀρχῆςarchēsG746madeἐποίησενepoiēsenG4160them maleG733and femaleθῆλυthēluG2338,

5and saidG3004, ‘For thisτούτουtoutouG3778reasonἕνεκαhenekaG1752a manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444shall leaveκαταλείψειkataleipseiG2641his fatherπατέραpateraG3962and motherμητέραmēteraG3384and be joinedκολληθήσεταιkollēthēsetaiG2853to his wifeγυναικὶgunaikiG1135, andthe twoδύοduoG1417shall becomeἔσονται εἰςesontai eisG1510 G1519oneμίανmianG1520fleshσάρκαsarkaG4561’?

6SoὥστεhōsteG5620they are noG3765longerG3765twoδύοduoG1417,but oneμία.miaG1520fleshσὰρξsarxG4561.WhatὃhoG3739thereforeοὖνounG3767GodθεὸςtheosG2316has joinedG4801togetherσυνέζευξεν,sunezeuxenG4801,let noμὴmēG3361manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444separateχωριζέτω.¶chōrizetōG5563.”

7They saidΛέγουσινLegousinG3004to Him, “WhyτίtiG5101thenοὖνounG3767did MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475commandἐνετείλατοeneteilatoG1781togiveδοῦναιdounaiG1325her a certificateβιβλίονbiblionG975of divorceἀποστασίουapostasiouG647and sendἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630herawayG630?”

8He saidΛέγειLegeiG3004to them,“BecauseπρὸςprosG4314of your hardnessσκληροκαρδίανsklērokardianG4641of heartG4641MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475permittedἐπέτρεψενepetrepsenG2010you todivorceἀπολῦσαιapolusaiG630your wivesγυναῖκαςgunaikasG1135;but from the beginningἀρχῆςarchēsG746it has not beenγέγονενgegonenG1096thisG3779wayοὕτως.¶houtōsG3779.

9And I sayΛέγωLegōG3004to you,whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739 G302divorcesἀπολύσῃapolusēG630his wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135,exceptμὴmēG3361forimmoralityπορνείᾳporneiaG4202,and marriesγαμήσῃgamēsēG1060anotherG243womanG243commitsG3429adulteryμοιχᾶται.moichataiG3429.”

10The disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101saidΛέγουσινLegousinG3004to Him, “IfεἰeiG1487the relationshipαἰτίαaitiaG156of the manἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444with his wifeγυναικός,gunaikosG1135is likeG3779thisG3779,it is betterσυμφέρειsumphereiG4851not to marryγαμῆσαι.¶gamēsaiG1060.”

11But He saidG3004to them, “Not allG3956menG3956canacceptχωροῦσινchōrousinG5562thisτοῦτονtoutonG3778statementλόγονlogonG3056, but onlythose to whomοἷςhoisG3739it has been givenδέδοται.dedotaiG1325.

12For there are eunuchsεὐνοῦχοιeunouchoiG2135whoοἵτινεςoitinesG3748were bornἐγεννήθησανegennēthēsanG1080that wayοὕτως,houtōsG3779from their mother’sμητρὸςmētrosG3384wombκοιλίαςkoiliasG2836;and there are eunuchsεὐνοῦχοιeunouchoiG2135whoοἵτινεςoitinesG3748were madeG2134eunuchsεὐνουχίσθησανeunouchisthēsanG2134by menἀνθρώπων,anthrōpōnG444; and there are alsoeunuchsεὐνοῦχοιeunouchoiG2135whoοἵτινεςoitinesG3748madeG2134themselvesἑαυτοὺςhe'autousG1438eunuchsεὐνούχισανeunouchisanG2134for the sakeδιὰdiaG1223of the kingdomβασιλείανbasileianG932of heavenοὐρανῶν.ouranōnG3772.He who is ableδυνάμενοςdunamenosG1410to acceptχωρεῖνchōreinG5562this,let him acceptχωρείτω.¶chōreitōG5562it.”

13ThenΤότεToteG5119somechildrenπαιδίαpaidiaG3813were broughtπροσηνέχθησανprosēnechthēsanG4374to Him soἵναinaG2443that He might layἐπιθῇepithēaG2007His handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495on them and prayπροσεύξηται·proseuxētaiG4336;and the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101rebukedἐπετίμησανepetimēsanG2008them.

14But JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004, “LetG863the childrenπαιδίαpaidiaG3813aloneG863,and do not hinderκωλύετεkōlueteG2967them from comingἐλθεῖνeltheinG2064to Me; forthe kingdomβασιλείαbasileiaG932of heavenοὐρανῶν.ouranōnG3772belongsἐστὶνestinG1510to suchτοιούτωνtoioutōnG5108as theseG5108.”

15After layingἐπιθεὶςepitheisG2007His handsχεῖραςcheirasG5495on them, He departedἐπορεύθηeporeuthēG4198from thereἐκεῖθεν.¶ekeithenG1564.

16And someoneεἷςheisG1520cameπροσελθὼνproselthōnG4334to Him and saidG3004, “TeacherδιδάσκαλεdidaskaleG1320,whatτίtiG5101goodἀγαθὸνagathonG18thingG18shall I doποιήσωpoiēsōG4160that I may obtainσχῶschōG2192eternalαἰώνιον;aiōnionG166lifeζωὴνzōēnG2222?”

17And He saidG3004to him,“WhyτίtiG5101are you askingἐρωτᾷςerōtasG2065Me aboutπερὶperiG4012whatG3588is goodἀγαθοῦ;agathouG18? There is onlyOneεἷςheisG1520who is goodἀγαθόςagathosG18; butifεἰeiG1487you wishθέλειςtheleisG2309to enterεἰσελθεῖν,eiseltheinG1525into lifeζωὴνzōēnG2222,keepτήρησονtērēsonG5083the commandmentsἐντολάς.¶entolasG1785.”

18Thenhe saidΛέγειLegeiG3004to Him, “WhichG4169onesG4169?”And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG5346, “You shall not commitG5407murderφονεύσεις,phoneuseisG5407;You shall not commitμοιχεύσεις,moicheuseisG3431adulteryG3431;You shall not stealκλέψεις,klepseisG2813;You shall not bearψευδομαρτυρήσεις,pseudomarturēseisG5576falseG5576witnessG5576;

19HonorτίμαtimaG5091your fatherπατέραpateraG3962and motherμητέρα,mēteraG3384; andYou shall loveἀγαπήσειςagapēseisG25your neighborπλησίονplēsionG4139as yourselfG4572.”

20The youngνεανίσκος·neaniskosG3495manG3495saidΛέγειLegeiG3004to Him, “AllπάνταpantaG3956theseG3778thingsG3778I have keptἐφύλαξαephulaxaG5442;whatτίtiG5101amG5302I stillἔτιetiG2089lackingὑστερῶ;¶husterōG5302?”

21JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidἜφηEphēG5346to him,“IfεἰeiG1487you wishθέλειςtheleisG2309to becompleteτέλειοςteleiosG5046,goὕπαγεhupageG5217andsellπώλησόνpōlēsonG4453your possessionsὑπάρχονταhuparchontaG5225and giveδὸςdosG1325to thepoorπτωχοῖς·ptōchoisG4434,and you will haveἕξειςhexeisG2192treasureθησαυρὸνthēsauronG2344in heavenοὐρανοῖς,ouranoisG3772;and comeδεῦροdeuroG1204,followἀκολούθειakoloutheiG190Me.”

22But when the youngνεανίσκοςneaniskosG3495manG3495heardἈκούσαςAkousasG191thisG3778statementλόγονlogonG3056,he wentG565awayἀπῆλθενapēlthenG565grievingλυπούμενος·lupoumenosG3076;for he was one who ownedἔχωνechōnG2192muchπολλά.¶pollaG4183propertyκτήματαktēmataG2933.

23And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidλέγωlegōG3004to His disciplesμαθηταῖςmathētaisG3101,“TrulyἀμὴνamēnG281I sayG3004to you,it is hardδυσκόλωςduskolōsG1423for a richπλούσιοςplousiosG4145manG4145to enterεἰσελεύσεταιeiseleusetaiG1525the kingdomβασιλείανbasileianG932of heavenοὐρανῶν.¶ouranōnG3772.

24AgainΠάλινPalinG3825I sayλέγωlegōG3004to you,it is easierεὐκοπώτερόνeukopōteronG2123for a camelκάμηλονkamēlonG2574to go throughδιὰdiaG1223the eyeG5144of a needleῥαφίδοςrhaphidosG4476,thanἢēG2228for a richπλούσιονplousionG4145manG4145to enterεἰσελθεῖνeiseltheinG1525the kingdomβασιλείανbasileianG932of Godθεοῦ.¶theouG2316.”

25When the disciplesμαθηταὶmathētaiG3101heardἈκούσαντεςAkousantesG191this,they were veryσφόδραsphodraG4970astonishedἐξεπλήσσοντοexeplēssontoG1605and saidλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “ThenἄραaraG686whoτίςtisG5101canδύναταιdunataiG1410be savedσωθῆναι;sōthēnaiG4982?”

26And lookingἐμβλέψαςemblepsasG1689at themJesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidG3004to them, “With peopleἀνθρώποιςanthrōpoisG444thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778is impossibleἀδύνατόνadunatonG102,but with GodθεῷtheōG2316allG3956thingsπάνταpantaG3956are possibleδυνατάdunataG1415.”

28And JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424saidλέγωlegōG3004to them,“TrulyἀμὴνamēnG281I sayG3004to you, that you who have followedἀκολουθήσαντέςakolouthēsantesG190Me, in the regenerationπαλιγγενεσίᾳ,palingenesiaG3824whenὅτανhotanG3752the SonυἱὸςhuiosG5207of ManἀνθρώπουanthrōpouG444will sitκαθίσῃkathisēG2523onHis gloriousδόξηςdoxēsG1391throneθρόνουthronouG2362,you alsoκαὶkaiG2532shall sitκαθήσεσθεkathēsestheG2521upon twelveδώδεκαdōdekaG1427thronesθρόνουςthronousG2362,judgingκρίνοντεςkrinontesG2919the twelveδώδεκαdōdekaG1427tribesφυλὰςphulasG5443of IsraelἸσραήλ.¶IsraēlG2474.

29AndeveryoneπᾶςpasG3956whoὅστιςhostisG3748has leftἀφῆκενaphēkenG863housesοἰκίαςoikiasG3614orἢēG2228brothersἀδελφοὺςadelphousG80orἢēG2228sistersἀδελφὰςadelphasG79orἢēG2228fatherπατέραpateraG3962orἢēG2228motherμητέραmēteraG3384orἢēG2228childrenτέκναteknaG5043orἢēG2228farmsἀγροὺςagrousG68for My name’sὀνόματόςonomatosG3686sakeἕνεκενhenekenG1752,will receiveλήμψεταιlēmpsetaiG2983manyG4179timesG4179as muchG4179,and will inheritκληρονομήσει.¶klēronomēseiG2816eternalαἰώνιονaiōnionG166lifeζωὴνzōēnG2222.

30But manyΠολλοὶPolloiG4183who arefirstπρῶτοιprōtoiG4413will be lastἔσχατοι,eschatoiG2078; and thelastἔσχατοιeschatoiG2078,firstπρῶτοι.¶prōtoiG4413.
