Edom Will Be Humbled

1The visionחֲז֖וֹןcha.ZonH2377of Obadiahעֹֽבַדְיָ֑ה'oad.YahH5662.Thusכֹּֽה־koh-H3541saysאָמַר֩'a.MarH559the Lordאֲדֹנָ֨י'a.do.NaiH136GodH3068concerningEdomH112--We have heardשָׁמַ֜עְנוּsha.Ma'.nuH8085a reportשְׁמוּעָ֨הshe.mu.'AhH8052from the LordH3068, And anenvoyוְצִיר֙ve.TzirH6735has been sentשֻׁלָּ֔חshu.LachH7971among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֣םba.go.YimH1471saying, “Ariseק֛וּמוּKu.muH6965and let us goוְנָק֥וּמָהve.na.Ku.mahH6965againstעָלֶיהָ'a.Lei.haH5921her for battleלַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃la.mil.cha.MahH4421”--

2“Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,I will makeנְתַתִּ֖יךָne.ta.Ti.khaH5414yousmallקָטֹ֛ןka.TonH6996among the nationsבַּגּוֹיִ֑םba.go.YimH1471;You are greatlyמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966despisedבָּז֥וּיba.ZuiH959.

3Thearroganceזְד֤וֹןze.DonH2087of your heartלִבְּךָ֙li.be.KhaH3820has deceivedH5378you,You who liveH7931in the cleftsבְחַגְוֵי־ve.chag.vei-H2288of therockסֶּ֖לַעSe.la'H5553,In the loftinessמְר֣וֹםme.RomH4791of your dwellingH7931placeשִׁבְתּ֑וֹshiv.ToH7675,Who sayאֹמֵ֣ר'o.MerH559in your heartבְּלִבּ֔וֹbe.li.BoH3820, ‘Whoמִ֥יmiH4310will bringיוֹרִדֵ֖נִיyo.ri.De.niH3381me downH3381to earthאָֽרֶץ׃'A.retzH776?’

4Thoughאִם־'im-H518youbuildH1361highתַּגְבִּ֣יהַּtag.Bi.ahH1361like the eagleכַּנֶּ֔שֶׁרka.Ne.sherH5404,Thoughוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you setשִׂ֣יםsimH7760your nestקִנֶּ֑ךָki.Ne.chaH7064amongבֵּ֥יןbeinH996thestarsכּֽוֹכָבִ֖יםko.kha.VimH3556,From thereמִשָּׁ֥םmi.ShamH8033I will bringאוֹרִֽידְךָ֖'o.ri.de.KhaH3381you downH3381,”declaresנְאֻם־ne.'um-H5002the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

5“Ifאִם־'im-H518thievesגַּנָּבִ֤יםga.na.VimH1590cameבָּאֽוּ־ba.'u-H935to you,Ifאִם־'im-H518robbersשׁ֣וֹדְדֵיSho.deiH7703by nightלַ֔יְלָהLay.lahH3915--O howאֵ֣יךְ'eikhH349you will be ruinedנִדְמֵ֔יתָהnid.Mei.tahH1820!--Would they not stealיִגְנְב֖וּyig.ne.VuH1589onlyuntil they hadH1767enoughH1767?Ifאִם־'im-H518grape gatherersבֹּֽצְרִים֙bo.tze.RimH1219cameבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935to you,Would they not leaveיַשְׁאִ֥ירוּyash.'I.ruH7604somegleaningsעֹלֵלֽוֹת׃o.le.LotH5955?

6O howאֵ֚יךְ'eikhH349Esauעֵשָׂ֔ו'e.SavH6215will beransackedנֶחְפְּשׂ֣וּnech.pe.SuH2664, Andhis hiddenH4710treasuresH4710searchedנִבְע֖וּniv.'UH1158out!

7Allכֹּ֚לkolH3605themenH376alliedבְרִיתֶ֔ךָve.ri.Te.khaH1285with youWill sendשִׁלְּח֗וּךָshi.le.Chu.khaH7971you forth to the borderהַגְּב֣וּלha.ge.VulH1366,And the menH376at peaceשְׁלֹמֶ֑ךָshe.lo.Me.khaH7965with youWill deceiveH5378you and overpowerיָכְל֥וּya.khe.LuH3201you. They who eat yourbreadלַחְמְךָ֗lach.me.KhaH3899Will setיָשִׂ֤ימוּya.Si.muH7760an ambushמָזוֹר֙ma.zOrH4204for you. (ThereH369isnoH369understandingתְּבוּנָ֖הte.vu.NahH8394in him.)

8Will I not on that dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117,”declaresנְאֻםne.'um-H5002the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, “Destroyוְהַאֲבַדְתִּ֤יve.ha.'a.vad.TiH6wiseחֲכָמִים֙cha.kha.MimH2450menH2450from EdomH112And understandingוּתְבוּנָ֖הu.te.vu.NahH8394from the mountainמֵהַ֥רme.HarH2022of Esauעֵשָֽׂו׃'e.SavH6215?

9Then yourmightyH1368menH1368will be dismayedוְחַתּ֥וּve.cha.TuH2865, OTemanתֵּימָ֑ןtei.ManH8487,So that everyoneאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376may becutיִכָּֽרֶת־yi.ka.ret-H3772offH3772from the mountainמֵהַ֥רme.HarH2022of Esauעֵשָׂ֖ו'e.SavH6215by slaughterמִקָּֽטֶל׃mi.Ka.telH6993.

10“BecauseH4480ofviolenceמֵחֲמַ֛סme.cha.MasH2555to your brotherאָחִ֥יךָ'a.Chi.khaH251Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290,You will be coveredתְּכַסְּךָ֣te.kha.se.KhaH3680withshameבוּשָׁ֑הvu.ShahH955,And you will be cutוְנִכְרַ֖תָּve.nikh.Ra.taH3772offH3772foreverלְעוֹלָֽם׃le.'o.LamH5769.

11On the dayבְּיוֹם֙be.yOmH3117that youstoodעֲמָֽדְךָ֣'a.ma.de.KhaH5975aloofמִנֶּ֔גֶדmi.Ne.gedH4480 H5048,On the dayבְּי֛וֹםbe.YomH3117that strangersזָרִ֖יםza.RimH2114carriedH7617offH7617his wealthחֵיל֑וֹchei.LoH2428,And foreignersוְנָכְרִ֞יםve.na.khe.RimH5237enteredבָּ֣אוּBa.'uH935his gateשְׁעָרָ֗יוsha.'a.rovH8179Andcastיַדּ֣וּya.DuH3032lotsגוֹרָ֔לgo.RalH1486for Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ye.ru.sha.LimH3389--You tooגַּם־gam-H1571were as oneכְּאַחַ֥דke.'a.ChadH259of them.

Anddo not rejoiceתִּשְׂמַ֥חtis.MachH8055over the sonsלִבְנֵֽי־liv.nei-H1121of Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063In the dayבְּי֣וֹםbe.YomH3117of their destructionאָבְדָ֑ם'a.ve.DamH6; Yes, do notboastתַּגְדֵּ֥ל פִּ֖יךָtag.Del Pi.khaH1431 H6310In the dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117of theirdistressצָרָֽה׃tza.RahH6869.

13Do not enterתָּב֤וֹאta.Vo'H935the gateבְשַֽׁעַר־ve.sha.'ar-H8179of My peopleעַמִּי֙'a.MiH5971In thedayבְּי֣וֹםbe.YomH3117of their disasterאֵידָ֔ם'ei.DamH343.Yesגַם־gam-H1571, you, do notgloatתֵּ֧רֶאTe.re'H7200over their calamityH7463In the dayבְּי֣וֹםbe.YomH3117of their disasterאֵיד֑וֹ'ei.DoH343. 14Do notstandתַּעֲמֹד֙ta.'a.ModH5975at the forkH6563of the roadH6563To cutלְהַכְרִ֖יתle.hakh.RitH3772downH3772their fugitivesפְּלִיטָ֑יוpe.li.TavH6412;And do not imprisonתַּסְגֵּ֥רtas.GerH5462their survivorsשְׂרִידָ֖יוse.ri.DavH8300In the dayבְּי֥וֹםbe.YomH3117of their distressצָרָֽה׃tza.RahH6869.

15“For thedayיוֹם־yom-H3117of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068drawsH7138nearH7138on allכָּל־kol-H3605the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֑םha.go.YimH1471.As you have doneעָשִׂ֙יתָ֙'a.Si.taH6213,it will be doneיֵעָ֣שֶׂהye.'A.sehH6213to you. Yourdealingsגְּמֻלְךָ֖ge.mul.KhaH1576will returnיָשׁ֥וּבya.ShuvH7725on your own headבְּרֹאשֶֽׁךָ׃be.ro.She.khaH7218.

16Becauseכִּ֗יKiH3588justH3512as youdrankשְׁתִיתֶם֙she.ti.TemH8354onMy holyקָדְשִׁ֔יkod.shiH6944mountainהַ֣רharH2022,Allכָֽל־khol-H3605the nationsהַגּוֹיִ֖םha.go.YimH1471will drinkיִשְׁתּ֥וּyish.TuH8354continuallyתָּמִ֑ידta.MidH8548.They will drinkוְשָׁת֣וּve.sha.TuH8354andswallowוְלָע֔וּve.la.'UH3886And becomeוְהָי֖וּve.ha.YuH1961as if they had neverכְּל֥וֹאke.Lo'H3808existedהָיֽוּ׃ha.YuH1961.

17But on Mountוּבְהַ֥רu.ve.HarH2022Zionצִיּ֛וֹןtzi.YonH6726there will be those whoH6413escapeH6413,And it will be holyקֹ֑דֶשׁKo.deshH6944.And the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Jacobיַֽעֲקֹ֔בya.'a.KoH3290willpossessוְיָֽרְשׁוּ֙ve.ya.re.ShuH3423their possessionsמוֹרָֽשֵׁיהֶם׃mo.Ra.shei.hemH4180.

18Then the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Jacobיַעֲקֹ֨בya.'a.KoH3290will be afireאֵ֜שׁ'eshH784And the houseוּבֵ֧יתu.VeitH1004of Josephיוֹסֵ֣ףyo.SefH3130a flameלֶהָבָ֗הle.ha.VahH3852;But the houseוּבֵ֤יתu.VeitH1004of Esauעֵשָׂו֙'e.SavH6215will beas stubbleלְקַ֔שׁle.KashH7179.And they will setH1814them on fireH1814and consumeוַאֲכָל֑וּםva.'a.kha.LumH398them, So that there will benoוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808survivorשָׂרִיד֙sa.RidH8300of the houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004of Esauעֵשָׂ֔ו'e.SavH6215,”For the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has spokenדִּבֵּֽר׃di.BerH1696.

19Then those of theNegevהַנֶּ֜גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045willpossessוְיָרְשׁ֨וּve.ya.re.ShuH3423the mountainהַ֣רharH2022of Esauעֵשָׂ֗ו'e.SavH6215, And those of theShephelahוְהַשְּׁפֵלָה֙ve.ha.she.fe.LahH8219thePhilistineפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430plain; Also,possessוְיָרְשׁוּ֙ve.ya.re.ShuH3423the territoryשְׂדֵ֣הse.DehH7704of Ephraimאֶפְרַ֔יִם'ef.Ra.yimH669and the territoryשְׂדֵ֣הse.DehH7704of Samariaשֹׁמְר֑וֹןsho.me.RonH8111,And Benjaminוּבִנְיָמִ֖ןu.vin.ya.MinH1144will possessGileadהַגִּלְעָֽד׃ha.gil.'AdH1568.

20And the exilesוְגָלֻ֣תve.ga.LutH1546of thisהַ֠זֶּהHa.zehH2088hostהַֽחֵל־ha.chel-H2426of the sonsלִבְנֵ֨יliv.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֤לYis.ra.'ElH3478,Whoאֲשֶֽׁר־'a.Sher-H834are amongthe Canaanitesכְּנַעֲנִים֙ke.na.'a.NimH3669as farעַד־'ad-H5704asZarephathצָ֣רְפַ֔תtza.re.FatH6886,And the exilesוְגָלֻ֥תve.ga.LutH1546of Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834are in Sepharadבִּסְפָרַ֑דbis.fa.RadH5614Will possessיִֽרְשׁ֕וּyir.ShuH3423thecitiesעָרֵ֥י'a.ReiH5892of the Negevהַנֶּֽגֶב׃ha.Ne.gevH5045.

21Thedeliverersמֽוֹשִׁעִים֙mo.shi.'ImH3467will ascendוְעָל֤וּve.'a.LuH5927Mountבְּהַ֣רbe.HarH2022Zionצִיּ֔וֹןtzi.YonH6726To judgeלִשְׁפֹּ֖טlish.PotH8199the mountainהַ֣רharH2022of Esauעֵשָׂ֑ו'e.SavH6215, And thekingdomהַמְּלוּכָֽה׃ha.me.lu.KhahH4410will be the Lord’sלַֽיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.
