Isaiah 36:1-12
And it came to pass in the fourteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396, that SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 came up against all the fortifiedH1219 citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and took them.
And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sentH7971 Rab-shakeh from LachishH3923 to JerusalemH3389, to kingH4428 HezekiahH2396, with a strong force. And he stoodH5975 by the aqueduct of the upperH5945 poolH1295, on the highwayH4546 of the fuller's fieldH7704.
Then cameH3318 forthH3318 to him EliakimH471 the sonH1121 of Hilkijah, who was over the householdH1004, and ShebnaH7644 the scribeH5608, and JoahH3098 the sonH1121 of AsaphH623, the chronicler.
And Rab-shakeh saidH559 to them, SayH559 now to HezekiahH2396, ThusH3541 saysH559 the greatH1419 kingH4428, the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804: What confidence is this in which thou trustest?
Thou sayest, but it is a wordH1697 of the lipsH8193, [There is] counselH6098 and strengthH1369 for warH4421. NowH6258 on whom dost thou relyH982, that thou hast revolted against me?
Behold, thou reliest upon the staffH4938 of that broken reedH7070, upon EgyptH4714, on which if a manH376 leanH5564, it goesH935 into his handH3709, and pierces it: soH3651 is PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 to all that relyH982 upon him.
And if thou sayH559 to me, We relyH982 upon Jehovah our 1GodH430: is it not he, whose highH1116 placesH1116 and whose altarsH4196 HezekiahH2396 has removedH5493, sayingH559 to JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389, Ye shall worship before this altarH4196?
And nowH6258 engage, I pray thee, with my masterH113 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and I will giveH5414 thee two thousandH505 horsesH5483, if thou be ableH3201 on thy part to setH5414 ridersH7392 upon them.
HowH349 then wilt thou turnH7725 awayH7725 the faceH6440 of oneH259 captain of the least of my master's servantsH5650? And thou reliest upon EgyptH4714 for chariotsH7393 and for horsemenH6571!
And nowH6258 am I comeH5927 up without Jehovah against this landH776 to destroyH7843 it? Jehovah saidH559 to me, GoH5927 up against this landH776 and destroyH7843 it.
And EliakimH471 and ShebnaH7644 and JoahH3098 saidH559 to Rab-shakeh, SpeakH1696, we pray thee, to thy servantsH5650 in Syriac, for we understand it; and speakH1696 not to us in the Jewish [language] in the earsH241 of the peopleH5971 that are upon the wallH2346.
And Rab-shakeh saidH559, Is it to thy masterH113 and to thee that my masterH113 sentH7971 me to speakH1696 these wordsH1697? Is it not to the menH376 that sitH3427 on the wallH2346, that they may eatH398 their own dung, and drinkH8354 their own urine with you?
