4 Abide μείνατε meinate G3306 in me and I in you . As the branch κλῆμα klēma G2814 cannot bear φέρειν pherein G5342 fruit καρπὸν karpon G2590 of itself unless it abide μένῃ menē G3306 in the vine ἀμπέλῳ, ampelō G288 , thus G3779 neither [ can ] ye unless ye abide μένητε. menēte G3306 in me . 5 I am G1510 the vine ἄμπελος, ampelos G288 , ye [ are G1510 ] the branches G2814 . He that abides μένων menōn G3306 in me and I in him , he bears much πολύν· polun G4183 fruit καρπὸν karpon G2590 ; for without me ye can do nothing . 6 Unless any one G5100 abide μένῃ menē G3306 in me he is cast G906 out as the branch κλῆμα klēma G2814 , and is dried up ; and they gather συνάγουσιν sunagousin G4863 them and cast G906 them into the fire πῦρ pur G4442 , and they are burned G2545 . 7 If ye abide μείνητε meinēte G3306 in me , and my words abide μείνῃ, meinē G3306 in you , ye shall ask αἰτήσασθε, aitēsasthe G154 what ye will and it shall come G1096 to pass G1096 to you . 9 As the Father πατήρ, patēr G3962 has loved G25 me , I also have loved G25 you : abide μείνατε meinate G3306 in my love ἀγάπῃ agapē G26 . 10 If ye shall keep G5083 my commandments ἐντολάς entolas G1785 , ye shall abide μενεῖτε meneite G3306 in my love ἀγάπῃ agapē G26 , as I have kept G5083 my Father's commandments ἐντολὰς entolas G1785 and abide μένω menō G3306 in his love ἀγάπῃ.¶ agapē G26 . 14 Ye are G1510 my friends φίλοι philoi G5384 if ye practise whatever I command ἐντέλλομαι entellomai G1781 you . 15 I call you no G3756 longer bondmen, for the bondman does not know what his master κύριος· kurios G2962 is doing ; but I have called you friends φίλους, philous G5384 , for all things πάντα panta G3956 which I have heard G191 of my Father πατρός patros G3962 I have made G4160 known to you . 16 Ye have not chosen me , but I have chosen you , and have set G5087 you that ye should go ὑπάγητε hupagēte G5217 and [ that ] ye should bear φέρητε, pherēte G5342 fruit καρπὸν karpon G2590 , and [ that ] your fruit καρπὸς karpos G2590 should abide G3306 , that whatsoever ye shall ask αἰτήσητε aitēsēte G154 the Father πατέρα patera G3962 in my name ὀνόματί onomati G3686 he may give δῷ dō G1325 you . 17 These things Ταῦτα Tauta G3778 I command ἐντέλλομαι entellomai G1781 you , that ye love ἀγαπᾶτε agapate G25 one ἀλλήλους. allēlous G240 another . 21 But they will do all these things ταῦτα tauta G3778 to you on account διὰ dia G1223 of my name ὄνομά onoma G3686 , because they have not known him that sent G3992 me . 22 If I had not come ἦλθον ēlthon G2064 and spoken G2980 to them , they had not had sin ἁμαρτίαν hamartian G266 ; but now G1161 they have no excuse for their sin ἁμαρτίας hamartias G266 . 24 If I had not done among them the works ἔργα erga G2041 which no other ἄλλος allos G243 one G3762 has done , they had not had sin ἁμαρτίαν hamartian G266 ; but now G1161 they have both seen G3708 and hated μεμισήκασιν memisēkasin G3404 both me and my Father πατέρα patera G3962 . 25 But that the word λόγος logos G3056 written G1125 in their law νόμῳ nomō G3551 might be fulfilled , They hated ἐμίσησάν emisēsan G3404 me without a cause. 26 But when Ὅταν Hotan G3752 the Comforter is come ἔλθῃ elthē G2064 , whom I will send πέμψω pempsō G3992 to you from the Father πατρός, patros G3962 , the Spirit πνεῦμα pneuma G4151 of truth ἀληθείας alētheias G225 who goes forth ἐκπορεύεται, ekporeuetai G1607 from with the Father πατρὸς patros G3962 , he shall bear μαρτυρήσει marturēsei G3140 witness G3140 concerning περὶ peri G4012 me ; 27 and ye too bear μαρτυρεῖτε, martureite G3140 witness G3140 , because ye are G1510 with me from [ the ] beginning . ← John 14 John 16 → Darby Bible — 1889 — Public Domain
