Jeremiah 5

1Run ye to and fro through the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, and seeH7200 now, and knowH3045, and seekH1245 in the broadways thereof, if ye can findH4672 a manH376, if there be [any] that doeth justiceH4941, that seeketh fidelity; and I will pardon it. 2And if they sayH559, [As] Jehovah liveth! surely they swearH7650 falsely. 3Jehovah, are not thine eyesH5869 upon fidelity? Thou hast smitten them, but they are not sore; thou hast consumed them, they have refusedH3985 to receiveH3947 correctionH4148: they have madeH2388 their facesH6440 harder than a rockH5553; they have refusedH3985 to returnH7725. 4And I saidH559, Surely these are the wretched ones, they are foolish; for they knowH3045 not the wayH1870 of Jehovah, the judgmentH4941 of their 1GodH430. 5I will go unto the greatH1419 men, and will speakH1696 unto them; for they knowH3045 the wayH1870 of Jehovah, the judgmentH4941 of their 2GodH430; but these have altogetherH3162 brokenH7665 the yokeH5923, have burst the bonds. 6ThereforeH3651 a lionH738 out of the forestH3293 shall slay them, a wolfH2061 of the evenings shall waste them; the leopardH5246 lurketh against their citiesH5892, every one that goeth out thence is tornH2963 in pieces: for their transgressionsH6588 are multiplied, their backslidings are increased. 7Wherefore should I pardon thee? Thy children have forsaken me, and swearH7650 by them that are not 3GodH430. I have satiated them, and they have committedH5003 adulteryH5003, and they troop to the harlots' houseH1004. 8[As] well fed horsesH5483, they roam about, every oneH376 neigheth after his neighbour's wifeH802. 9Shall I not visitH6485 for these thingsH428? saith Jehovah, and shall not my soulH5315 be avengedH5358 on such a nationH1471 as this? 10GoH5927 up upon her walls, and destroyH7843; but makeH6213 not a full end; take awayH5493 her battlements, for they are not Jehovah's. 11For the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 have dealtH898 very treacherouslyH898 against me, saith Jehovah. 12They have deniedH3584 Jehovah, and sayH559, He is not; and evilH7451 shall not comeH935 upon us, nor shall we seeH7200 swordH2719 nor famineH7458; 13and the prophetsH5030 shall becomeH1961 windH7307, and the word is not in them: thusH3541 shall it beH1961 done unto them. 14ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah, the 4GodH430 of hostsH6635: Because ye speakH1696 this wordH1697, behold, I will makeH5414 my wordsH1697 in thy mouthH6310 fireH784, and this peopleH5971 woodH6086, and it shall devourH398 them. 15Behold, I bringH935 a nationH1471 upon you from afar, houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah: it is a mighty nationH1471, it is an ancient nationH1471, a nationH1471 whose languageH3956 thou knowest not, neither understandest thou what they sayH1696. 16Their quiverH827 is as an openH6605 sepulchre; they are all mightyH1368 menH1368. 17And they shall eatH398 up thy harvestH7105 and thy breadH3899, they shall eatH398 up thy sonsH1121 and thy daughtersH1323, they shall eatH398 up thy flocksH6629 and thy herdsH1241, they shall eatH398 up thy vinesH1612 and thy fig-trees; they shall destroy with the swordH2719 thy strong citiesH5892, wherein thou trustedst. 18Nevertheless in those daysH3117, saith Jehovah, I will not makeH6213 a full end with you. 19And it shall come to pass, when ye shall sayH559, Wherefore hath Jehovah our 5GodH430 done all these thingsH428 unto us? then shalt thou sayH559 to them, As ye have forsaken me, and servedH5647 strangeH2114 6godsH430 in your landH776, soH3651 shall ye serveH5647 strangersH2114 in a landH776 that is not yours. 20DeclareH5046 this in the houseH1004 of JacobH3290, and publish it in JudahH3063, sayingH559, 21HearH8085 now this, O foolish and heartless peopleH5971, who have eyesH5869 and seeH7200 not; who have earsH241, and hearH8085 not. 22Will ye not fearH3372 me? saith Jehovah. Will ye not trembleH2342 at my presenceH6440, who have setH7760 the sandH2344 a bound for the seaH3220 by a perpetual decreeH2706, and it shall not passH5674 it? and its waves toss themselves, but they do not prevailH3201; and they roarH1993, yet can they not passH5674 over it? 23But this peopleH5971 hath a stubbornH5637 and a rebelliousH4784 heartH3820; they have turnedH5493 asideH5493 and are gone. 24And they sayH559 not in their heartH3824, Let us now fearH3372 Jehovah our 7GodH430, that giveth rainH1653, both the early and the latter, in its season; who preserveth unto us the appointed weeksH7620 of harvestH7105. 25Your iniquitiesH5771 have turnedH5186 away these thingsH428, and your sinsH2403 have withholden from you what is goodH2896. 26For among my peopleH5971 are foundH4672 wickedH7563 [menH376]: they lay wait, as fowlersH3353 stoop down; they setH5324 a trap, they catchH3920 menH376. 27As a cage fullH4392 of birdsH5775, soH3651 are their housesH1004 fullH4392 of deceitH4820: thereforeH3651 they are becomeH1431 greatH1431, and have enriched themselves. 28They are become fatH8080, they shine, yea, they surpass in deeds of wickednessH7451; they judgeH8199 not the cause, the cause of the fatherlessH3490, and they prosperH6743; and the rightH4941 of the needyH34 do they not adjudge. 29Shall I not visitH6485 for these thingsH428? saith Jehovah; shall not my soulH5315 be avengedH5358 on such a nationH1471 as this? 30An appalling and horrible thing is committed in the landH776: 31the prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012 falsehoodH8267, and the priestsH3548 rule by their means; and my peopleH5971 loveH157 [to have it] soH3651. But what will ye do in the endH319 thereof?
