1And ShephatiahH8203 the sonH1121 of MattanH4977, and GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of Pashur, and Jucal the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, and Pashur the sonH1121 of Malchijah, heardH8085 the wordsH1697 that JeremiahH3414 had spokenH1696 unto all the peopleH5971, sayingH559, 2ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: He that remaineth in this cityH5892 shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698; but he that goeth forthH3318 to the ChaldeansH3778 shall live; and he shall have his lifeH5315 for a prey, and shall live. 3ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: This cityH5892 shall certainly be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Babylon's armyH2428, and he shall takeH3920 it. 4And the princesH8269 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, Let this manH376, we pray thee, be putH4191 to deathH4191; for why should he weaken the handsH3027 of the menH376 of warH4421 that remainH7604 in this cityH5892, and the handsH3027 of all the peopleH5971, in speakingH1696 to them according to these wordsH1697? for this manH376 seeketh not the welfareH7965 of this peopleH5971, but the hurt. 5And kingH4428 ZedekiahH6667 saidH559, Behold, he is in your handH3027; for the kingH4428 is not he that can do a thingH1697 against you. 6Then they tookH3947 JeremiahH3414, and castH7993 him into the dungeon of Malchijah the sonH1121 of Hammelech, which was in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307, and they let down JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256. And in the dungeon there was no waterH4325, but mire; and JeremiahH3414 sank in the mire. 7And Ebed-melechH5663 the Ethiopian, a eunuchH5631 who was in the king's houseH1004, heardH8085 that they had putH5414 JeremiahH3414 in the dungeon — now the kingH4428 was sittingH3427 in the gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144, 8— and Ebed-melechH5663 wentH3318 forthH3318 out of the king's houseH1004, and spokeH1696 to the kingH4428, sayingH559, 9My lordH113, O kingH4428, these menH376 have done evilH7489 in all that they have done to the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414, whom they have castH7993 into the dungeon; and he will dieH4191 by reason of the famineH7458 in the placeH8478 whereH834 he is; for there is no more breadH3899 in the cityH5892. 10And the kingH4428 commandedH6680 Ebed-melechH5663 the Ethiopian, sayingH559, TakeH3947 from hence thirtyH7970 menH376 with thee, and takeH3947 up JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 out of the dungeon, before he dieH4191. 11And Ebed-melechH5663 tookH3947 the menH376 under his order, and wentH935 into the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 under the treasuryH214, and tookH3947 thence old shreds and worn-outH1094 clothesH5499, and let them down by cordsH2256 into the dungeon to JeremiahH3414. 12And Ebed-melechH5663 the Ethiopian saidH559 to JeremiahH3414, PutH7760, I pray, [these] old shreds and ragsH4418 under thine armholes under the cordsH2256. And JeremiahH3414 did soH3651. 13And they drewH4900 up JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256, and broughtH5927 him up out of the dungeon; and JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427 in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307. 14And kingH4428 ZedekiahH6667 sentH7971 and tookH3947 the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414 unto him, into the thirdH7992 entry that is in the houseH1004 of Jehovah; and the kingH4428 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, I will askH7592 thee a thingH1697: hideH3582 nothing from me. 15And JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto ZedekiahH6667, If I declareH5046 [it] unto thee, wilt thou not certainly putH4191 me to deathH4191? and if I give thee counselH3289, thou wilt not hearken unto me. 16And kingH4428 ZedekiahH6667 sworeH7650 secretly unto JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, [As] Jehovah liveth, that madeH6213 us this soulH5315, I will not putH5414 thee to deathH4191, neither will I giveH5414 thee into the handH3027 of these menH376 that seekH1245 thy lifeH5315. 17And JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto ZedekiahH6667, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah the 1GodH430 of hostsH6635, the 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478: If thou wilt freely goH3318 forthH3318 to the kingH4428 of Babylon's princesH8269, then thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421, and this cityH5892 shall not be burnedH8313 with fireH784; and thou shalt liveH2421, and thy houseH1004. 18But if thou wilt not goH3318 forthH3318 to the kingH4428 of Babylon's princesH8269, then shall this cityH5892 be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, and they shall burnH8313 it with fireH784, and thou shalt not escapeH4422 out of their handH3027. 19And kingH4428 ZedekiahH6667 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, I am afraid of the JewsH3064 that have deserted to the ChaldeansH3778, lestH6435 they giveH5414 me over into their handH3027, and they mock me. 20And JeremiahH3414 saidH559, They shall not giveH5414 [thee] over. Hearken, I beseech thee, unto the voiceH6963 of Jehovah, in that which I speakH1696 unto thee; so shall it be wellH3190 unto thee, and thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421. 21But if thou refuse to goH3318 forthH3318, this is the wordH1697 which Jehovah hath shewn me: 22Behold, all the womenH802 that are leftH7604 in the kingH4428 of Judah's houseH1004 shall be broughtH3318 forthH3318 to the kingH4428 of Babylon's princesH8269; and they shall sayH559, Thy familiar friends have set thee on, and have prevailedH3201 over thee; thy feetH7272 are sunkH2883 in the mire, they are turnedH5472 away backH268. 23And they shall bringH3318 out all thy wivesH802 and thy children to the ChaldeansH3778, and thou shalt not escapeH4422 out of their handH3027; for thou shalt be taken by the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894, and thou shalt cause this cityH5892 to be burnedH8313 with fireH784. 24And ZedekiahH6667 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, Let no manH376 knowH3045 of these wordsH1697, and thou shalt not dieH4191. 25And if the princesH8269 hearH8085 that I have talked with thee, and they comeH935 unto thee, and sayH559 unto thee, DeclareH5046 unto us now what thou hast saidH559 unto the kingH4428, hideH3582 it not from us, and we will not putH4191 thee to deathH4191; and what hath the kingH4428 saidH559 unto thee? 26then thou shalt sayH559 unto them, I presented my supplicationH8467 before the kingH4428, that he would not cause me to returnH7725 to Jonathan's houseH1004, to dieH4191 there. 27— And all the princesH8269 cameH935 to JeremiahH3414, and askedH7592 him; and he toldH5046 them according to all these wordsH1697 that the kingH4428 had commandedH6680. And they withdrew quietly from him; for the matterH1697 was not reported. 28And JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427 in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307 until the dayH3117 that JerusalemH3389 wasH1961 takenH3920.
