Jeremiah 14

1The wordH1697 of Jehovah that came to JeremiahH3414 concerning the drought. 2JudahH3063 mourneth, and the gatesH8179 thereof languishH535, they are black unto the groundH776; and the cry of JerusalemH3389 goeth up. 3And their noblesH117 sendH7971 their little onesH6810 for waterH4325: they comeH935 to the pits, they findH4672 no waterH4325; they returnH7725 with their vesselsH3627 emptyH7387; they are ashamedH954, they are confounded, and have coveredH2645 their headsH7218. 4Because the groundH776 is chapt, for there hath beenH1961 no rainH1653 on the earthH776, the ploughmen are ashamedH954, they coverH2645 their headsH7218. 5For the hind alsoH1571 calveth in the fieldH7704, and forsaketh [its young], because there is no grassH1877. 6And the wildH6501 asses standH5975 on the heightsH8205, they snuff up the windH7307 like jackalsH8577; their eyesH5869 failH3615, because there is no herbage. 7Jehovah, though our iniquitiesH5771 testifyH6030 against us, do thou actH6213 for thy name's sakeH4616; for our backslidings are manyH7231 — we have sinnedH2398 against thee. 8Thou hope of IsraelH3478, its Saviour in the timeH6256 of troubleH6869, whyH4100 wilt thou beH1961 as a stranger in the landH776, and as a traveller that turneth asideH5186 to stayH3885 a night? 9WhyH4100 wilt thou beH1961 as a manH376 astonished, as a mightyH1368 manH376 that cannot saveH3467? Yet thou, Jehovah, art in the midstH7130 of us, and we are calledH7121 by thy nameH8034: leave us not. 10ThusH3541 saith Jehovah to this peopleH5971: Even soH3651 have they lovedH157 to wanderH5128, they have not refrained their feetH7272; and Jehovah hath no delightH7521 in them: nowH6258 will he rememberH2142 their iniquityH5771, and visitH6485 their sinsH2403. 11And Jehovah saidH559 unto me, PrayH6419 not for this peopleH5971 for their goodH2896. 12When they fastH6684, I will not hearH8085 their cryH7440; and when they offerH5927 up burnt-offering and oblation, I will not acceptH7521 them: for I will consume them by swordH2719, and by famineH7458, and by pestilenceH1698. 13And I saidH559, AlasH162, LordH136 Jehovah! Behold, the prophetsH5030 sayH559 unto them, Ye shall not seeH7200 the swordH2719, neither shall ye have famineH7458; for I will giveH5414 you assured peaceH7965 in this placeH4725. 14And Jehovah saidH559 unto me, The prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012 falsehoodH8267 in my nameH8034; I have not sentH7971 them, neither have I commandedH6680 them, nor spokenH1696 unto them: they prophesyH5012 unto you a false visionH2377, and divinationH7081, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heartH3820. 15ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah concerning the prophetsH5030 that prophesyH5012 in my nameH8034, and I sentH7971 them not, and who sayH559, SwordH2719 and famineH7458 shall not beH1961 in this landH776: By swordH2719 and by famineH7458 shall those prophetsH5030 beH1961 consumed; 16and the peopleH5971 to whom they prophesyH5012 shall beH1961 castH7993 out in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, because of the famineH7458 and the swordH2719; and there shall beH1961 none to buryH6912 them, them, their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121, and their daughtersH1323; and I will pourH8210 their wickednessH7451 upon them. 17And thou shalt sayH559 this wordH1697 unto them: Let mine eyesH5869 run down with tearsH1832, nightH3915 and dayH3119, and not ceaseH1820; for the virginH1330 daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 is brokenH7665 with a greatH1419 breach, with a veryH3966 grievous blowH4347. 18If I goH3318 forthH3318 into the fieldH7704, behold the slainH2491 with the swordH2719! and if I enter into the cityH5892, behold them that pine away with famineH7458! For both prophetH5030 and priestH3548 shall goH3318 about into a landH776 that they knowH3045 not. 19— Hast thou then utterly rejectedH3988 JudahH3063? Doth thy soulH5315 loathe ZionH6726? WhyH4069 hast thou smitten us, and there is no healingH4832 for us? PeaceH7965 is looked for, and there is no goodH2896, — and a timeH6256 of healingH4832, and behold terrorH1205! 20Jehovah, we acknowledge our wickednessH7562, the iniquityH5771 of our fathersH1; for we have sinnedH2398 against thee. 21For thy name's sakeH4616, do not spurnH5006 [us], do not disgrace the throneH3678 of thy gloryH3519: rememberH2142, breakH6565 not thy covenantH1285 with us. 22Are there any among the vanitiesH1892 of the nationsH1471 that can cause rain? or can the heavensH8064 giveH5414 showersH7241? Art not thou HE, Jehovah, our 1GodH430? And we waitH6960 upon thee; for thou hast madeH6213 all these thingsH428.
