Jeremiah 18
1The wordH1697 that came to JeremiahH3414 from Jehovah, sayingH559, 2AriseH6965 and goH3381 down to the potter's houseH1004, and there I will cause thee to hearH8085 my wordsH1697. 3And I wentH3381 downH3381 to the potter's houseH1004; and behold, he wrought a workH4399 on the wheels. 4And the vesselH3627 that he madeH6213 was marred, as clay, in the handH3027 of the potterH3335; and he madeH6213 it again another vesselH3627, as seemed good to the potterH3335 to makeH6213. 5And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to me, sayingH559, 6HouseH1004 of IsraelH3478, cannot I do with you as this potterH3335? saith Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter's handH3027, soH3651 are ye in my handH3027, houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. 7At the momentH7281 that I speakH1696 concerning a nationH1471 and concerning a kingdomH4467, to pluckH5428 up, and to breakH5422 down, and to destroyH6, 8if that nationH1471, concerning which I have spokenH1696, turnH7725 from their evilH7451, then I will repent of the evilH7451 that I thought to do unto them. 9And at the momentH7281 that I speakH1696 concerning a nationH1471 and concerning a kingdomH4467, to buildH1129 and to plantH5193, 10if it do evilH7451 in my sight, that it hearken not unto my voiceH6963, then I will repentH5162 of the goodH2896 wherewith I saidH559 I would benefit them. 11And nowH6258, speak to the menH376 of JudahH3063 and to the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, I prepare evilH7451 against you, and devise a device against you: turnH7725 ye then every oneH376 from his evilH7451 wayH1870, and amend your waysH1870 and your doings. 12But they sayH559, There is no hope; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will each oneH376 do [according to] the stubbornnessH8307 of his evilH7451 heartH3820. 13ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: AskH7592 ye now among the nationsH1471, Who hath heardH8085 such thingsH428? The virginH1330 of IsraelH3478 hath done a veryH3966 horrible thing. 14Shall the snowH7950 of LebanonH3844 cease from the rockH6697 of the fieldH7704? Shall the coolH7119 flowingH5140 watersH4325 coming from afar be dried up? 15For my peopleH5971 hath forgottenH7911 me: they burn incenseH6999 to vanityH7723; and they have caused them to stumbleH3782 in their waysH1870, the ancient paths, to walk in by-paths of a wayH1870 not cast up; 16to makeH7760 their landH776 an astonishment, a perpetual hissing: every one that passeth by shall be astonished, and shake his headH7218. 17As with an eastH6921 windH7307 will I scatterH6327 them before the enemyH341; I will shew them the backH6203, and not the faceH6440, in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343. 18And they saidH559, Come, and let us devise devices against JeremiahH3414; for lawH8451 shall not perishH6 from the priestH3548, nor counselH6098 from the wiseH2450, nor wordH1697 from the prophetH5030. Come and let us smite him with the tongueH3956, and let us not give heed to any of his wordsH1697. 19Jehovah, give heed to me, and listenH8085 to the voiceH6963 of those that contend with me. 20Shall evilH7451 be recompensed for goodH2896? For they have digged a pitH7745 for my soulH5315. RememberH2142 how I stoodH5975 before thee to speakH1696 goodH2896 for them, to turnH7725 awayH7725 thy wrathH2534 from them. 21ThereforeH3651 giveH5414 up their children to the famineH7458, and deliver them over to the power of the swordH2719; and let their wivesH802 beH1961 bereaved of children and beH1961 widowsH490; and let their menH376 beH1961 swept off by deathH4194, their youngH1121 menH376 beH1961 smitten by the swordH2719 in battleH4421. 22Let a cryH2201 be heardH8085 from their housesH1004, when thou shalt bringH935 a troopH1416 suddenlyH6597 upon them; for they have digged a pit to takeH3920 me, and have hiddenH2934 snaresH6341 for my feetH7272. 23And thou, Jehovah, knowest all their counselH6098 against me to slay me. Forgive not their iniquityH5771, neither blot out their sinH2403 from thy sight, but let them beH1961 overthrown before thee: deal with them in the timeH6256 of thine angerH639.
