Jeremiah 23

1WoeH1945 unto the shepherdsH7462 that destroyH6 and scatterH6327 the sheepH6629 of my pastureH4830! saith Jehovah. 2ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478 concerning the shepherdsH7462 that feedH7462 my peopleH5971: Ye have scatteredH6327 my flockH6629, and drivenH5080 them awayH5080, and have not visitedH6485 them: behold, I will visitH6485 upon you the evil of your doings, saith Jehovah. 3And I will gatherH6908 the remnantH7611 of my flockH6629 out of all countries whither I have drivenH5080 them, and will bringH7725 them again to their pastures; and they shall be fruitfulH6509 and shall multiplyH7235. 4And I will raiseH6965 up shepherdsH7462 over them, who shall feedH7462 them; and they shall fearH3372 no more, nor be dismayedH2865, neither shall any be missingH6485, saith Jehovah. 5Behold, the daysH3117 comeH935, saith Jehovah, when I will raiseH6965 unto DavidH1732 a righteousH6662 BranchH6780, who shall reignH4427 as kingH4428, and actH6213 wisely, and shall execute judgmentH4941 and righteousnessH6666 in the landH776. 6In his daysH3117 JudahH3063 shall be savedH3467, and IsraelH3478 shall dwellH7931 in safety; and this is his nameH8034 whereby he shall be calledH7121, Jehovah our RighteousnessH6664. 7ThereforeH3651 behold, daysH3117 are comingH935, saith Jehovah, that they shall no more sayH559, [As] Jehovah liveth, who broughtH935 up the children of IsraelH3478 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714; 8but, [As] Jehovah liveth, who broughtH935 up and who led back the seedH2233 of the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 out of the northH6828 country, and from all countries whither I had drivenH5080 them. And they shall dwellH3427 in their own landH776. 9Concerning the prophetsH5030: My heartH3820 within me is brokenH7665; all my bonesH6106 shake; I amH1961 like a drunkenH7910 manH376, and like a manH376 whom wineH3196 hath overcome; because of Jehovah, and because of the wordsH1697 of his holinessH6944. 10For the landH776 is fullH4390 of adulterersH5003; for because of execration the landH776 mourneth. The pastures of the wildernessH4057 are driedH3001 up; for their courseH4794 is evilH7451, and their force is not rightH3651. 11For both prophetH5030 and priestH3548 are profane: even in my houseH1004 have I foundH4672 their wickednessH7451, saith Jehovah. 12ThereforeH3651 their wayH1870 shall beH1961 unto them as slipperyH2519 places in the darknessH653; they shall beH1961 driven on, and fallH5307 therein: for I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon them in the yearH8141 of their visitation, saith Jehovah. 13And I have seenH7200 folly in the prophetsH5030 of SamariaH8111: they prophesiedH5012 by BaalH1168, and caused my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478 to errH8582. 14And in the prophetsH5030 of JerusalemH3389 have I seenH7200 a horrible thing: they commitH5003 adulteryH5003, and walkH1980 in falsehoodH8267, and strengthenH2388 the handsH3027 of evildoers, so that none doth returnH7725 from his wickednessH7451. They are all becomeH1961 unto me as SodomH5467, and the inhabitantsH3427 thereof as GomorrahH6017. 15ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635 concerning the prophetsH5030: Behold, I will feed them with wormwoodH3939, and make them drinkH8248 waterH4325 of gall; for from the prophetsH5030 of JerusalemH3389 is profaneness goneH3318 forthH3318 into all the landH776. 16ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Hearken not unto the wordsH1697 of the prophetsH5030 that prophesyH5012 unto you: they lead you to vanity; they speakH1696 a visionH2377 of their own heartH3820, not out of the mouthH6310 of Jehovah. 17They sayH559 constantly unto them that despise me, Jehovah hath saidH559, Ye shall have peaceH7965. And they sayH559 unto every one that walketh in the stubbornnessH8307 of his heartH3820, No evilH7451 shall comeH935 upon you. 18For who hath stoodH5975 in the councilH5475 of Jehovah, so that he hath perceived and heardH8085 his wordH1697? who hath hearkened to his wordH1697 and listenedH8085? 19Behold, a tempestH5591 of Jehovah, fury is goneH3318 forthH3318, yea, a whirling stormH5591: it shall whirl down upon the headH7218 of the wickedH7563. 20The angerH639 of Jehovah shall not returnH7725, until he have executed, and until he have performed the purposesH4209 of his heartH3820: at the endH319 of the daysH3117 ye shall understandH995 it clearly. 21I did not sendH7971 the prophetsH5030, yet they ranH7323; I have not spokenH1696 to them, yet they prophesiedH5012. 22But if they had stoodH5975 in my councilH5475, and had caused my peopleH5971 to hearH8085 my wordsH1697, then would they have turnedH7725 them from their evilH7451 wayH1870 and from the wickednessH7455 of their doings. 23Am I a 2GodH430 at hand, saith Jehovah, and not a 3GodH430 afarH7350 off? 24Can any hideH5641 himself in secretH4565 placesH4565, that I shall not seeH7200 him? saith Jehovah. Do not I fillH4390 the heavensH8064 and the earthH776? saith Jehovah. 25I have heardH8085 what the prophetsH5030 sayH559, who prophesyH5012 falsehoodH8267 in my nameH8034, sayingH559, I have dreamedH2492, I have dreamedH2492. 26How long shall [this] be in the heartH3820 of the prophetsH5030 who prophesyH5012 falsehoodH8267, and who are prophetsH5030 of the deceit of their own heartH3820? 27who think to cause my peopleH5971 to forgetH7911 my nameH8034 by their dreamsH2472 which they tell every manH376 to his neighbour: as their fathersH1 have forgottenH7911 my nameH8034 for BaalH1168. 28The prophetH5030 that hath a dreamH2472, let him tell the dreamH2472; and he that hath my wordH1697, let him speakH1696 my wordH1697 faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith Jehovah. 29Is not my wordH1697 like a fireH784, saith Jehovah; and like a hammerH6360 [that] breaketh the rockH5553 in pieces? 30ThereforeH3651, behold, I am against the prophetsH5030, saith Jehovah, that stealH1589 my wordsH1697 every oneH376 from his neighbour. 31Behold, I am against the prophetsH5030, saith Jehovah, that use their tonguesH3956, and say, He hath said. 32Behold, I am against them that prophesyH5012 false dreamsH2472, saith Jehovah, and that tell them, and cause my peopleH5971 to errH8582 by their liesH8267 and by their boasting; and I have not sentH7971 them, nor commandedH6680 them; and they profitH3276 not this peopleH5971 at all, saith Jehovah. 33And when this peopleH5971, or a prophetH5030, or a priestH3548, askH7592 thee, sayingH559, What is the burdenH4853 of Jehovah? thou shalt then sayH559 unto them, What burdenH4853? I will even cast you off, saith Jehovah. 34And as for the prophetH5030, and the priestH3548, and the peopleH5971, that shall sayH559, The burdenH4853 of Jehovah, I will even punishH6485 that manH376 and his houseH1004. 35ThusH3541 shall ye sayH559 every oneH376 to his neighbour, and every oneH376 to his brotherH251: What hath Jehovah answered? and, What hath Jehovah spokenH1696? 36And the burdenH4853 of Jehovah shall ye mention no more; for every man's own wordH1697 shall beH1961 his burdenH4853: for ye have perverted the wordsH1697 of the living 4GodH430, of Jehovah of hostsH6635, our 5GodH430. 37ThusH3541 shalt thou sayH559 to the prophetH5030: What hath Jehovah answered thee? and, What hath Jehovah spokenH1696? 38But since ye sayH559, The burdenH4853 of Jehovah, thereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Because ye sayH559 this wordH1697, The burdenH4853 of Jehovah, and I have sentH7971 unto you, sayingH559, Ye shall not sayH559, The burdenH4853 of Jehovah; 39thereforeH3651 behold, I will utterly forgetH5382 you, and I will cast you off, far from my faceH6440, and the cityH5892 that I gaveH5414 to you and to your fathersH1. 40And I will bring everlasting reproachH2781 upon you, and everlasting shame, that shall not be forgottenH7911.
