Jeremiah 5

Jerusalem’s Godlessness

1“1RoamH7751 to and froH7751 through the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, And lookH7200 nowH4994 and takeH3045 noteH3045. And seekH1245 in her openH7339 squaresH7339, IfH518 you can 2findH4672 a manH376, 3IfH518 thereH3426 is one who doesH6213 justiceH4941, who seeksH1245 4truthH530, Then I will pardonH5545 her.2And 5althoughH518 they sayH559, ‘As the LordH3068 livesH2416,’ SurelyH3651 they swearH7650 falselyH8267.”3O LordH3068, do not 6Your eyesH5869 look for 7truthH530? You have 8smittenH5221 them, But they did not 9weakenH2470; You have consumedH3615 them, But they 10refusedH3985 to takeH3947 correctionH4148. They have 11madeH2388 their facesH6440 harderH2388 thanH4480 rockH5553; They have refusedH3985 to repentH7725.

4Then I saidH559, “They are onlyH389 the poorH1800, They are foolishH2973; For they 12do not knowH3045 the wayH1870 of the LordH3068 Or the ordinanceH4941 of their GodH430.5I will goH1980 to the greatH1419 And will speakH1696 to them, For 13they knowH3045 the wayH1870 of the LordH3068 And the ordinanceH4941 of their GodH430.” But they too, with oneH3162 accordH3162, have 14brokenH7665 the yokeH5923 And burstH5423 the bondsH4147.6ThereforeH5921H3651 15a lionH743 from the forestH3293 will slayH5221 them, A 16wolfH2061 of the desertsH6160 will destroyH7703 them, A 17leopardH5246 is watchingH8245 their citiesH5892. EveryoneH3605 who goesH3318 out of them will be tornH2963 in piecesH2963, BecauseH3588 their 18transgressionsH6588 are manyH7231, Their apostasiesH4878 are numerousH6105.

7“WhyH335 should I pardonH5545 you? Your sonsH1121 have forsakenH5800 Me And 19swornH7650 by those who are 20not godsH430. When I had fedH7646 them to the fullH7646, They 21committedH5003 adulteryH5003 And troopedH1413 to the harlot’sH2181 houseH1004.8They were well-fedH2109 lustyH7904 horsesH5483, EachH376 oneH376 neighingH6670 afterH413 his 22neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802.9Shall I not punishH6485 23theseH428 people,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “And on a nationH1471 suchH834 as thisH2088 24Shall I not avengeH5358 MyselfH5315?

10“GoH5927 up through her vineH7795 rowsH7795 and destroyH7843, But do not executeH6213 a completeH3617 destructionH3617; StripH5493 awayH5493 her branchesH5189, For they are not the Lord’sH3068.11For the 25houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and the houseH1004 of JudahH3063 Have dealtH898 veryH898 treacherouslyH898 with Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.12They have 26liedH3584 about the LordH3068 And saidH559, “2728Not He; MisfortuneH7463 will 29not comeH935 on us, And we 30will not seeH7200 swordH2719 or famineH7458.13The 31prophetsH5030 are as windH7307, And the wordH1699 is not in them. ThusH3541 it will be doneH6213 to them!”

Judgment Proclaimed

14ThereforeH3651, thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, “BecauseH3282 you have spokenH1696 thisH2088 wordH1697, BeholdH2009, I am 32makingH5414 My wordsH1697 in your mouthH6310 fireH784 And thisH2088 peopleH5971 woodH6086, and it will consumeH398 them.15BeholdH2009, I am 33bringingH935 a nationH1471 againstH5921 you from afarH4801, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068. “It is an enduringH386 nationH1471, It is an ancientH5769 nationH1471, A nationH1471 whose 34languageH3956 you do not knowH3045, NorH3808 can you understandH8085 whatH4100 they sayH1696.16Their 35quiverH827 is like an 36openH6605 graveH6913, AllH3605 of them are mightyH1368 menH1368.17They will 37devourH398 your harvestH7105 and your foodH3899; They will devourH398 your sonsH1121 and your daughtersH1323; They will devourH398 your flocksH6629 and your herdsH1241; They will devourH398 your 38vinesH1612 and your figH8384 treesH8384; They will demolishH7567 with the swordH2719 your 39fortifiedH4013 citiesH5892 in whichH834 you trustH982.

18“Yet evenH1571 in thoseH1992 daysH3117,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “I will not makeH6213 you a completeH3617 destructionH3617. 19It shall comeH1961 about 40whenH3588 41they sayH559, ‘WhyH8478H4100 has the LordH3068 our GodH430 doneH6213 allH3605 theseH428 thingsH428 to us?’ then you shall sayH559 to them, ‘As you have forsakenH5800 Me and servedH5647 foreignH5236 godsH430 in your landH776, soH3651 you will 42serveH5647 strangersH2114 in a landH776 that is not yours.’

20“DeclareH5046 thisH2088 in the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 And proclaimH8085 it in JudahH3063, sayingH559,21‘NowH4994 hearH8085 thisH2088, O foolishH5530 and 43senselessH369H3820 peopleH5971, Who have 44eyesH5869 but do not seeH7200; Who have earsH241 but do not hearH8085.22Do you not 45fearH3372 Me?’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068. ‘Do you not trembleH2342 in My presenceH6440? For I have 46placedH7760 the sandH2344 as a boundaryH1366 for the seaH3220, An eternalH5769 decreeH2706, so it cannotH3808 crossH5674 overH5674 it. Though the wavesH1530 tossH1607, yet they cannotH3808 prevailH3201; Though they roarH1993, yet they cannotH3808 crossH5674 overH5674 it.23But thisH2088 peopleH5971 hasH1961 a 47stubbornH5637 and rebelliousH4784 heartH3820; They have turnedH5493 asideH5493 and departedH1980.24They do not sayH559 in their heartH3824, “Let us nowH4994 fearH3372 the LordH3068 our GodH430, Who 48givesH5414 rainH1653 in its seasonH6256, Both 49the autumnH3138 rainH3138 and the springH4456 rainH4456, Who keepsH8104 for us The 50appointedH2708 weeksH7620 of the harvestH7105.”25Your 51iniquitiesH5771 have turnedH5186 theseH428 awayH5186, And your sinsH2403 have withheldH4513 goodH2896 from you.26For wickedH7563 menH7563 are foundH4672 among My peopleH5971, They 52watchH7789 like fowlersH3353 53lyingH7918 in waitH7918; They setH7843 a trapH4889, They catchH3920 menH376.27Like a cageH3619 fullH4392 of birdsH5775, SoH3651 their housesH1004 are fullH4392 of 54deceitH4820; ThereforeH5921H3651 they have becomeH1431 greatH1431 and richH6238.28They are 55fatH8080, they are sleekH6245, They alsoH1571 56excelH5674 in deedsH1697 of wickednessH7451; They do not pleadH1777 the causeH1779, The causeH1779 of the 5758orphanH3490, that they may prosperH6743; And they do not 59defendH8199 the rightsH4941 of the poorH34.2960Shall I not punishH6485 61theseH428 people?’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068, ‘On a nationH1471 suchH834 as thisH2088 Shall I not avengeH5358 MyselfH5315?’

30“An appallingH8047 and 62horribleH8186 thingH8186 Has happenedH1961 in the landH776:31The 63prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012 falselyH8267, And the priestsH3548 ruleH7287 64on their own authorityH3027; And My peopleH5971 65loveH157 it soH3651! But whatH4100 will you doH6213 at the endH319 of it?
