Jeremiah 50
Darby Bible
1The wordH1697 that Jehovah spokeH1696 concerningH413 BabylonH894, concerningH413 the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778, through JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030. 2DeclareH5046 ye among the nationsH1471, and publish, and liftH5375 up a banner; publish, conceal not! SayH559, BabylonH894 is takenH3920, BelH1078 is put to shame, Merodach is dismayedH2865: her images are put to shame, her idolsH1544 are dismayedH2865. 3For out of the northH6828 there cometh up a nationH1471 against her, which shall makeH7896 her landH776 desolate, and none shall dwellH3427 therein: both manH120 and beast are fled; they are goneH1980. 4In those daysH3117, and at that timeH6256, saith Jehovah, the children of IsraelH3478 shall comeH935, they and the children of JudahH3063 togetherH3162, goingH1980 and weepingH1058 as they goH1980, and shall seekH1245 Jehovah their 1GodH430. 5They shall inquire concerningH413 ZionH6726, with their facesH6440 thitherward, [saying,] ComeH935, and let us joinH3867 ourselves to Jehovah, in an everlasting covenantH1285 that shall not be forgottenH7911. 6My peopleH5971 are lost sheepH6629; their shepherdsH7462 have caused them to goH1980 astrayH8582, they turned them away on the mountainsH2022: they wentH1980 from mountainH2022 to hillH2022, they forgotH7911 their resting-place. 7All that foundH4672 them devouredH398 them, and their adversaries saidH559, We are not guiltyH816, because they have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah, the habitation of righteousnessH6664, even Jehovah, the hope of their fathersH1. 8Flee out of the midstH8432 of BabylonH894, and goH3318 forthH3318 out of the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778, and beH1961 as the he-goats before the flockH6629. 9For behold, I will raise and cause to comeH5927 up against BabylonH894, an assemblage of greatH1419 nationsH1471 from the northH6828 country; and they shall set themselves in array against her: from thence shall she be takenH3920. Their arrowsH2671 shall be as those of a mightyH1368 expert manH1368: none shall returnH7725 emptyH7387. 10And ChaldeaH3778 shall beH1961 a spoilH7998: all the spoilers thereof shall beH1961 satiated, saith Jehovah. 11For ye rejoicedH8055, for ye triumphed, ye plunderersH8154 of my heritage; for ye have been wanton as the heiferH5697 at grassH1877, and neighed as steeds. 12Your motherH517 hath been sorely putH954 to shameH954; she that boreH3205 you hath been covered with reproach: behold, [she is become] hindmost of the nationsH1471, a wildernessH4057, a dryH6723 land, and a desertH6160. 13Because of the wrathH7110 of Jehovah, it shall not beH1961 inhabitedH3427, but it shall beH1961 wholly desolateH8074; every one that goeth by BabylonH894 shall beH1961 astonished, and shall hissH8319, because of all her plaguesH4347. 14Put yourselves in array against BabylonH894 roundH5439 about, all ye that bendH1869 the bowH7198; shoot at her, spareH2550 no arrowsH2671: for she hath sinnedH2398 against Jehovah. 15ShoutH7321 against her roundH5439 about: she hath givenH5414 her handH3027; her ramparts are fallenH5307, her wallsH2346 are thrown downH5307: for this is the vengeanceH5360 of Jehovah. Take vengeanceH5360 upon her; as she hath done, do unto her. 16CutH3772 off the sowerH2232 from BabylonH894, and him that handleth the sickleH4038 in the timeH6256 of harvestH7105. For fear of the oppressingH3238 swordH2719 let them turnH6437 every oneH376 to his peopleH5971, and let them fleeH5127 every oneH376 to his own landH776. 17IsraelH3478 is a hunted sheepH7716; the lionsH738 have drivenH5080 him awayH5080: firstH7223 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 devouredH398 him, and lastH314 this Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 hath broken his bones. 18ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the 2GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Behold, I will visitH6485 the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and his landH776, like as I have visitedH6485 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804. 19And I will bringH7725 IsraelH3478 again to his pasture, and he shall feedH7462 on CarmelH3760 and BashanH1316, and his soulH5315 shall be satisfiedH7646 upon mount EphraimH669 and in GileadH1568. 20In those daysH3117, and at that timeH6256, saith Jehovah, the iniquityH5771 of IsraelH3478 shall be soughtH1245 for, and there shall be none; and the sinsH2403 of JudahH3063, and they shall not be foundH4672: for I will pardon those whom I leaveH7604 remainingH7604. 21GoH5927 up against the landH776 of double rebellion, against it, and against the inhabitantsH3427 of visitation; waste and utterly destroyH2763 after them, saith Jehovah, and do according to all that I have commandedH6680 thee. 22A soundH6963 of battleH4421 is in the landH776, and greatH1419 destructionH7667. 23HowH349 is the hammerH6360 of the whole earthH776 cutH1438 asunder and brokenH7665! HowH349 is BabylonH894 becomeH1961 an astonishment among the nationsH1471! 24I have laid a snare for thee, and thou, BabylonH894, art alsoH1571 takenH3920, and thou wast not aware; thou art foundH4672, and alsoH1571 caughtH3920, for thou hast contended with Jehovah. 25Jehovah hath openedH6605 his armoury, and hath broughtH3318 forthH3318 the weaponsH3627 of his indignationH2195; for this is a workH4399 for the Lord, Jehovah of hostsH6635, in the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778. 26ComeH935 ye against her from every quarter, openH6605 her storehouses; pile her up like sheaves, and destroyH2763 her utterly: let nothing of her beH1961 left. 27Slay all her bullocks; let them goH935 down to the slaughterH2874: woeH1945 unto them! for their dayH3117 is comeH935, the timeH6256 of their visitation. 28The voiceH6963 of them that fleeH5127 and escapeH6412 out of the landH776 of BabylonH894, to declareH5046 in ZionH6726 the vengeanceH5360 of Jehovah our 3GodH430, the vengeanceH5360 of his templeH1964. 29Call together the archers against BabylonH894, all those that bendH1869 the bowH7198: encampH2583 against her roundH5439 about; let there beH1961 no escaping: recompense her according to her workH6467; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath actedH2102 proudly against Jehovah, against the HolyH6918 OneH6918 of IsraelH3478. 30ThereforeH3651 shall her youngH970 menH376 fallH5307 in her streets; and all her menH376 of warH4421 shall be cut off in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah. 31Behold, I am against thee, proud one, saith the LordH136 Jehovah of hostsH6635; for thy dayH3117 is comeH935, the timeH6256 that I visitH6485 thee: 32and the proud one shall stumbleH3782 and fallH5307, and none shall raiseH6965 him up; yea, I will kindleH3341 a fireH784 in his citiesH5892, and it shall devourH398 all that are roundH5439 about him. 33ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: The children of IsraelH3478 and the children of JudahH3063 were togetherH3162 oppressedH6231; and all that tookH2388 them captivesH7617 heldH2388 them fast: they refusedH3985 to let them goH7971. 34Their RedeemerH1350 is strongH2389; Jehovah of hostsH6635 is his nameH8034: he will thoroughly plead their causeH7379, that he may give restH7280 to the landH776, and disquiet the inhabitantsH3427 of BabylonH894. 35The swordH2719 is upon the ChaldeansH3778, saith Jehovah, and upon the inhabitantsH3427 of BabylonH894, and upon her princesH8269, and upon her wiseH2450 men; 36the swordH2719 is upon the liars, and they shall becomeH2973 foolsH2973; the swordH2719 is upon her mightyH1368 menH1368, and they shall be dismayedH2865; 37the swordH2719 is upon their horsesH5483, and upon their chariotsH7393, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midstH8432 of her, and they shall becomeH1961 as womenH802; the swordH2719 is upon her treasuresH214, and they shall beH1961 robbed: 38a drought is upon her watersH4325, and they shall be driedH3001 up; for it is a landH776 of graven images, and they are mad after frightful idolsH6456. 39ThereforeH3651 wild beasts of the desert with jackals shall dwellH3427 there, and ostrichesH3284 shall dwellH3427 therein; and it shall be no more inhabitedH3427 for ever, neither shall it be dweltH3427 in from generationH1755 to generationH1755. 40As when 4GodH430 overthrew SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017, and their neighbour cities, saith Jehovah, no oneH376 shall dwellH3427 there, neither shall a sonH1121 of manH376 sojourn therein. 41Behold, a peopleH5971 cometh from the northH6828, and a greatH1419 nationH1471. And manyH7227 kingsH4428 shall arise from the uttermost partsH3411 of the earthH776. 42They lay holdH2388 of bowH7198 and spear; they are cruelH394, and will not shew mercyH7355; their voiceH6963 roareth like the seaH3220, and they rideH7392 upon horsesH5483 — set in array like a manH376 for the battleH4421, against thee, O daughterH1323 of BabylonH894. 43The kingH4428 of BabylonH894 hath heardH8085 the reportH8088 of them, and his handsH3027 wax feeble; troubleH6869 hath takenH2388 holdH2388 of him, pangs as of a woman in travail. 44Behold, he shall comeH5927 up like a lionH738 from the swelling of the JordanH3383 against the strong habitation; for I will make him suddenly runH7323 away from it; and who is a chosen [manH970] whom I may appointH6485 over her? For who is like me? and who will assign me a time? and who is that shepherdH7462 that will standH5975 before me? 45ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 the counselH6098 of Jehovah, which he hath taken against BabylonH894, and his purposes which he hath purposed against the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778: The little onesH6810 of the flockH6629 shall certainly draw them away; he shall certainly makeH8074 their habitation desolateH8074 for them. 46At the soundH6963 of the taking of BabylonH894 the earthH776 hath quakedH7493, and the cryH2201 is heardH8085 among the nationsH1471.
