Jeremiah 49
1Concerning the children of AmmonH5983. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Hath IsraelH3478 no sonsH1121? hath he no heir? WhyH4069 is Malcam heir of GadH1410, and his peopleH5971 dwellH3427 in the citiesH5892 thereof? 2ThereforeH3651 behold, daysH3117 comeH935, saith Jehovah, that I will cause the clamour of warH4421 to beH1961 heardH8085 in RabbahH7237 of the children of AmmonH5983; and it shall beH1961 a desolate heap; and her towns shall beH1961 burnedH3341 with fireH784; and IsraelH3478 shall possessH3423 them that possessedH3423 him, saith Jehovah. 3Howl, HeshbonH2809! for Ai is laid waste; cryH6817, daughtersH1323 of RabbahH7237, girdH2296 you with sackclothH8242, lamentH5594 and run to and fro within the enclosures: for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priestsH3548 and his princesH8269 togetherH3162. 4Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleysH6010? Thy valleyH6010 shall flowH2100 down, O backsliding daughterH1323, that trusteth in her treasuresH214, [saying,] Who shall comeH935 against me? 5Behold, I will bringH935 a fearH6343 upon thee, saith the LordH136 Jehovah of hostsH6635, from all that are about thee; and ye shall be drivenH5080 out every manH376 right forth; and none shall assembleH6908 the fugitivesH5074. 6And afterwards I will turnH7725 the captivityH7622 of the children of AmmonH5983, saith Jehovah. 7Concerning EdomH123. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Is there no more wisdomH2451 in TemanH8487? is counselH6098 perishedH6 from the prudent? is their wisdomH2451 spent? 8FleeH5127, turnH6437 backH6437, dwellH3427 deepH6009 downH3427, ye inhabitantsH3427 of DedanH1719! For I will bringH935 the calamityH343 of EsauH6215 upon him, the timeH6256 that I visitH6485 him. 9If grape-gatherers had comeH935 to thee, would they not have leftH7604 a gleaning? If thievesH1590 by nightH3915, they would destroyH7843 only till they had enough. 10But I have made EsauH6215 bare, I have uncoveredH1540 his secretH4565 placesH4565, that he is unable to hideH2247 himself: his seedH2233 is wasted, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not. 11LeaveH5800 thine orphans, I will preserveH2421 them aliveH2421; and let thy widowsH490 trustH982 in me. 12For thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, they whose judgmentH4941 was not to drinkH8354 of the cupH3563 shall assuredly drinkH8354; and thou indeed, shouldest thou be altogether unpunishedH5352? Thou shalt not goH5352 unpunishedH5352, but thou shalt surely drinkH8354. 13For I have swornH7650 by myself, saith Jehovah, that BozrahH1224 shall becomeH1961 an astonishment, a reproachH2781, a wasteH2723, and a curseH7045; and all the citiesH5892 thereof shall beH1961 perpetual wastesH2723. 14I have heardH8085 a rumour from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sentH7971 among the nationsH1471: — GatherH6908 yourselves togetherH6908, and comeH935 against her and riseH6965 up for the battleH4421. 15For behold, I have madeH5414 thee smallH6996 among the nationsH1471, despisedH959 among menH120. 16Thy terribleness, the prideH2087 of thy heartH3820, hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the cleftsH2288 of the rockH5553, that holdest the heightH4791 of the hillH1389. Though thou shouldest make thy nestH7064 highH4791 as the eagleH5404, I will bringH3381 thee downH3381 from thence, saith Jehovah. 17And EdomH123 shall beH1961 an astonishment: every one that goeth by it shall beH1961 astonished, and shall hissH8319, because of all the plaguesH4347 thereof. 18As in the overthrowH4114 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017, and their neighbour cities, saith Jehovah, no oneH376 shall dwellH3427 there, neither shall a sonH1121 of manH376 sojourn therein. 19Behold, he shall comeH5927 up like a lionH738 from the swelling of the JordanH3383 against the strong habitation; for I will make them suddenly runH7323 away from it; and who is a chosenH977 [man] whom I shall appointH6485 over her? For who is like me? and who will assign me a time? and who is that shepherdH7462 that will standH5975 before me? 20ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 the counselH6098 of Jehovah, which he hath taken against EdomH123, and his purposes which he hath purposed against the inhabitantsH3427 of TemanH8487: The little onesH6810 of the flockH6629 shall certainly draw them away; he shall certainly makeH8074 their habitation desolateH8074 for them. 21The earthH776 quaketh at the soundH6963 of their fallH5307; there is a cryH6818, the soundH6963 whereof is heardH8085 in the Red seaH3220. 22Behold, he shall come up, and fly as an eagleH5404, and spreadH6566 forth his wingsH3671 against BozrahH1224; and at that dayH3117 the heartH3820 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 of EdomH123 shall beH1961 as the heartH3820 of a womanH802 in her pangs. 23Concerning DamascusH1834. HamathH2574 is putH954 to shameH954, and ArpadH774; for they have heardH8085 evilH7451 tidings, they are meltedH4127 awayH4127: there is distress on the seaH3220; it cannot be quietH8252. 24DamascusH1834 is grown feeble: she turneth herself to fleeH5127, and terror hath seizedH270 on her; troubleH6869 and sorrows have takenH270 holdH2388 of her as of a woman in travail. 25HowH349 is not the townH7151 of praiseH8416 forsaken, the cityH5892 of my joyH4885! 26ThereforeH3651 shall her youngH970 menH376 fallH5307 in her streets, and all the menH376 of warH4421 be cut off in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635. 27And I will kindleH3341 a fireH784 in the wallH2346 of DamascusH1834, and it shall consumeH398 the palaces of Ben-HadadH1130. 28ConcerningH413 KedarH6938, and concerningH413 the kingdomsH4467 of HazorH2674, which Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 smote. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: AriseH6965, goH5927 up to KedarH6938, and spoil the men of the eastH6924. 29Their tentsH168 and their flocksH6629 shall they takeH3947; their curtainsH3407 and all their vesselsH3627, and their camelsH1581, shall they carryH5375 awayH5375 for themselves; and they shall cry unto them, TerrorH4032 on every side! 30FleeH5127, wanderH5110 veryH3966 far, dwellH3427 deepH6009 downH3427, ye inhabitantsH3427 of HazorH2674, saith Jehovah; for Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 hath taken counselH6098 against you, and hath conceived a purposeH6098 against you. 31AriseH6965, get you up against the nationH1471 at easeH7961, that dwelleth securely, saith Jehovah, which hath neither gates nor barsH1280: they dwellH3427 aloneH910. 32And their camelsH1581 shall beH1961 a bootyH7998, and the multitudeH1995 of their cattle a spoilH7998; and I will scatterH2219 to every windH7307 them that have the cornersH6285 [of their beard] cutH7112 off, and I will bringH935 their calamityH343 from all sidesH7307 thereof, saith Jehovah. 33And HazorH2674 shall beH1961 a dwelling-place of jackalsH8577, a desolationH8077 for everH5769. No oneH376 shall dwellH3427 there, neither shall a sonH1121 of manH376 sojourn therein. 34The wordH1697 of Jehovah that came to JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 concerningH413 ElamH5867, in the beginning of the reignH4438 of ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, 35ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Behold, I will breakH7665 the bowH7198 of ElamH5867, the chief of their might. 36And upon ElamH5867 will I bringH935 the fourH702 windsH7307, from the fourH702 endsH7098 of the heavensH8064, and I will scatterH2219 them toward all those windsH7307; and there shall beH1961 no nationH1471 whither the outcastsH5080 of ElamH5867 shall not comeH935. 37And I will cause ElamH5867 to be dismayedH2865 before their enemiesH341, and before them that seekH1245 their lifeH5315; and I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon them, my fierce angerH639, saith Jehovah; and I will sendH7971 the swordH2719 after them, till I have consumed them. 38And I will setH7760 my throneH3678 in ElamH5867, and will destroyH6 from thence kingH4428 and princesH8269, saith Jehovah. 39But it shall come to pass at the endH319 of the daysH3117, I will turnH7725 the captivityH7622 of ElamH5867, saith Jehovah.
