Jeremiah 39
1And it cameH935 to pass when JerusalemH3389 was taken, in the ninthH8671 yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the tenthH6224 monthH2320, cameH935 Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and all his armyH2428 against JerusalemH3389, and they besieged it. 2In the eleventh yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667, in the fourthH7243 monthH2320, on the ninth of the monthH2320, the cityH5892 was brokenH1234 into; 3and all the princesH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935 in, and satH3427 in the middleH8432 gateH8179: Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebu, Sarsechim, chiefH8269 chamberlain, Nergal-sharezer, chiefH8269 magian, and all the restH7611 of the princesH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894. 4And it came to pass when ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and all the menH376 of warH4421 sawH7200 them, that they fledH1272, and wentH3318 forthH3318 out of the cityH5892 by nightH3915, by the wayH1870 of the king's gardenH1588, by the gateH8179 between the two wallsH2346; and he wentH3318 out the wayH1870 of the plainH6160. 5And the armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 pursuedH7291 after them, and overtookH5381 ZedekiahH6667 in the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405; and they tookH3947 him, and broughtH5927 him up to NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, unto RiblahH7247 in the landH776 of HamathH2574; and he pronounced judgmentH4941 upon him. 6And the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 slaughteredH7819 the sonsH1121 of ZedekiahH6667 in RiblahH7247 before his eyesH5869, and the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 slaughteredH7819 all the nobles of JudahH3063; 7and he put out the eyesH5869 of ZedekiahH6667, and boundH631 him with chains of brass, to carry him to BabylonH894. 8And the ChaldeansH3778 burnedH8313 the king's houseH1004 and the housesH1004 of the peopleH5971 with fireH784, and brokeH5422 down the wallsH2346 of JerusalemH3389. 9And Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard carried away captive into BabylonH894 the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 that were leftH7604 in the cityH5892, and the deserters that had deserted to him, with the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 that were leftH7604. 10But Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard leftH7604 [certain] of the peopleH5971, the poorH1800 who had nothingH369, in the landH776 of JudahH3063, and gaveH5414 them vineyardsH3754 and fields at the same time. 11And Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had given charge concerning JeremiahH3414 by Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard, sayingH559, 12TakeH3947 him, and keep an eyeH5869 upon him, and do him no harmH7451; but do unto him even as he shall sayH1696 unto thee. 13So Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard sentH7971, and Nebushazban, chief chamberlain, and Nergal-sharezer, chief magian, and all the kingH4428 of Babylon's princes, 14even they sentH7971, and tookH3947 JeremiahH3414 out of the courtH2691 of the guardH4307 and committed him to GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296 the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, that he should conduct him awayH7971 home. And he dweltH3427 among the peopleH5971. 15And the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto JeremiahH3414, while he wasH1961 shutH6113 up in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307, sayingH559, 16GoH1980 and speak to Ebed-melechH5663 the Ethiopian, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the 1GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Behold, I will bringH935 my wordsH1697 upon this cityH5892 for evilH7451, and not for goodH2896, and they shall comeH935 to pass before thy faceH6440 in that dayH3117. 17And I will deliverH5337 thee in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah; and thou shalt not be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the menH376 of whom thou art afraid; 18for I will certainly saveH4422 thee, and thou shalt not fallH5307 by the swordH2719, but thou shalt have thy lifeH5315 for a prey; for thou hast put thy confidence in me, saith Jehovah.
