Jeremiah 4
1If thou wilt returnH7725, O IsraelH3478, saith Jehovah, returnH7725 unto me; and if thou wilt put awayH5493 thine abominationsH8251 out of my sight, then shalt thou not be a wanderer; 2— and thou shalt in truthH571, in justiceH4941, and in righteousnessH6666 swearH7650, [As] Jehovah liveth! and the nationsH1471 shall blessH1288 themselves in him, and in him shall they glory. 3For thusH3541 saith Jehovah to the menH376 of JudahH3063 and JerusalemH3389: Break up for you a fallow ground, and sowH2232 not among thornsH6975. 4CircumciseH4135 yourselves for Jehovah, and take awayH5493 the foreskinsH6190 of your heartH3824, ye menH376 of JudahH3063 and inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389; lestH6435 my fury comeH3318 forthH3318 like fireH784 and burnH1197, and there be none to quenchH3518 it, because of the evil of your doings. 5DeclareH5046 ye in JudahH3063, and cause it to be heardH8085 in JerusalemH3389, and sayH559, ...and blowH8628 the trumpetH7782 in the landH776, cry aloud and sayH559, Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced citiesH5892. 6SetH5975 up a banner toward ZionH6726; takeH5375 to flight, stay not! For I am bringingH935 evilH7451 from the northH6828, and a greatH1419 destructionH7667. 7The lionH738 is comeH5927 up from his thicket, the destroyerH7843 of the nationsH1471 is on his way; he is goneH3318 forthH3318 from his placeH4725, to makeH7760 thy landH776 desolate; thy citiesH5892 shall be laid wasteH8047, without inhabitantH3427. 8For this, girdH2296 you with sackclothH8242, lamentH5594 and howl! for the fierce angerH639 of Jehovah is not turnedH7725 awayH7725 from us. 9And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah, that the heartH3820 of the kingH4428 shall perishH6, and the heartH3820 of the princesH8269; and the priestsH3548 shall beH1961 astonished, and the prophetsH5030 shall beH1961 amazed. 10And I saidH559, AlasH162, LordH136 Jehovah! surely thou hast greatly deceived this peopleH5971 and JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, Ye shall have peaceH7965; whereas the swordH2719 reacheth unto the soulH5315. 11At that timeH6256 shall it be saidH559 to this peopleH5971 and to JerusalemH3389, A hot windH7307 [cometh] from the heightsH8205 in the wildernessH4057, on the wayH1870 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971, not for fanning, nor for cleansing. 12A windH7307 more vehement than that shall comeH935 from me: nowH6258 will I alsoH1571 pronounce judgmentsH4941 against them. 13Behold, he cometh up as cloudsH6051, and his chariotsH4818 are as a whirlwind; his horsesH5483 are swifter than eaglesH5404. WoeH188 unto us! for we are destroyedH7703. 14WashH3526 thy heartH3820, JerusalemH3389, from wickednessH205, that thou mayest be savedH3467. How long shall thy vain thoughtsH4284 lodge within thee? 15For a voiceH6963 declareth from DanH1835, and publisheth affliction from mount EphraimH669. 16Inform the nationsH1471; behold, makeH5414 JerusalemH3389 to hearH8085: Besiegers comeH935 from a far country, and raise their voiceH6963 against the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063. 17As keepersH8104 of a fieldH7704 are they against her roundH5439 about; for she hath beenH1961 rebelliousH4784 against me, saith Jehovah. 18Thy wayH1870 and thy doings have procured these [thingsH428] unto thee; this is thy wickednessH7451, yea, it is bitterH4751, yea, it reacheth unto thy heartH3820. 19My bowelsH4578! my bowelsH4578! I am in travail! [Oh,] the wallsH7023 of my heartH3820! My heartH3820 maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace: for thou hearest, my soulH5315, the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782, the clamour of warH4421. 20DestructionH7667 upon destructionH7667 is proclaimedH7121; for the whole landH776 is wasted: suddenlyH6597 are my tentsH168 laid waste, my curtainsH3407, in a momentH7281. 21How long shall I seeH7200 the standardH5251, [and] hearH8085 the soundH6963 of the trumpetH7782? 22For my peopleH5971 is foolish, they have not knownH3045 me; they are sottish children, and they have no intelligence; they are wiseH2450 to do evilH7489, but to do goodH3190 they have no knowledge. 23I beheld the earthH776, and lo, it was waste and empty; and the heavensH8064, and they had no lightH216. 24I beheld the mountainsH2022, and lo, they trembled, and all the hillsH1389 shookH7493 violently. 25I beheld, and lo, manH120 was not, and all the fowl of the heavensH8064 were fledH5074. 26I beheld, and lo, the fruitful land was a wildernessH4057, and all the citiesH5892 thereof were brokenH5422 downH5422, before Jehovah, before his fierce angerH639. 27For thusH3541 saith Jehovah: The whole landH776 shall beH1961 a desolationH8077; but I will not makeH6213 a full end. 28For this shall the earthH776 mournH56, and the heavensH8064 above be black; because I have spokenH1696 it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turnH7725 backH7725 therefrom. 29At the noise of the horsemenH6571 and bowmen, every cityH5892 fleeth; they goH935 into the thickets, and climb up upon the rocksH3710: every cityH5892 is forsaken and no manH376 dwelleth therein. 30— And thou, wasted one, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornamentsH5716 of goldH2091, though thou rendest thine eyesH5869 with paint, in vain dost thou makeH6213 thyself fair: [thy] lovers despise thee, they seekH1245 thy lifeH5315. 31For I hearH8085 a voiceH6963, as of a woman in travail, anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voiceH6963 of the daughterH1323 of ZionH6726: she moaneth, she spreadeth forth her handsH3709, [saying], WoeH188 unto me! for my soulH5315 faileth because of murderers.
