Jeremiah 5

1“Go up and downH7751 the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389. LookH7200 nowH4994 and take noteH3045; searchH1245 her squaresH7339. IfH518 you can findH4672 a single personH376H518H3426, anyone who actsH6213 justlyH4941, anyone who seeksH1245 the truthH530, then I will forgiveH5545 the city.2AlthoughH518 they sayH559H3651, ‘As surely as the LORDH3068 livesH2416,’ they are swearing falselyH7650H8267.”

3O LORDH3068, do notH3808 Your eyesH5869 look for truthH530?You struck themH5221, but they felt noH3808 painH2342.You finished them offH3615,but they refusedH3985 to acceptH3947 disciplineH4148.They have made their facesH6440 harderH2388 than stoneH5553and refusedH3985 to repentH7725.
4Then IH589 saidH559, “TheyH1992 are onlyH389 the poorH1800;they have played the foolH2973,forH3588 they do notH3808 knowH3045 the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068,the justiceH4941 of their GodH430.5I will goH1980 toH413 the powerfulH1419and speakH1696 to themH853.SurelyH3588 theyH1992 knowH3045 the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068,the justiceH4941 of their GodH430.”
ButH389 they tooH1992, with one accordH3162, had brokenH7665 the yokeH5923and torn offH5423 the chainsH4147.6ThereforeH5921H3651 a lionH738 from the forestH3293 will strike them downH5221,a wolfH2061 from the desertH6160 will ravage themH7703.A leopardH5246 will lie in waitH8245 nearH5921 their citiesH5892,and everyoneH3605 who ventures outH3318 will be torn to piecesH2963.ForH3588 their rebellious actsH6588 are manyH7231,and their unfaithful deedsH4878 are numerousH6105.
7“WhyH335H2063 should I forgive youH5545?Your childrenH1121 have forsaken MeH5800and swornH7650 by gods that are notH3808 godsH430.I satisfiedH7646 their needsH853, yet they committed adulteryH5003and assembledH1413 at the housesH1004 of prostitutesH2181.8They areH1961 well-fedH2109, lustyH7904 stallionsH5483,eachH376 neighingH6670 afterH413 his neighbor’sH7453 wifeH802.9Should I notH3808 punish themH6485 forH5921 these thingsH428?”declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.“Should I notH3808 avengeH5358 MyselfH5315on such a nationH1471 as thisH2088?10Go upH5927 through her vineyardsH8284 and ravage themH7843,but do notH408 finish them offH3617H6213.Strip offH5493 her branchesH5189,forH3588 theyH1992 do notH3808 belong to the LORDH3068.11ForH3588 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 and the houseH1004 of JudahH3063have been utterly unfaithfulH898 to Me,”declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.

12They have liedH3584 about the LORDH3068 and saidH559:

“HeH1931 will not do anythingH3808; harmH7451 will notH3808 comeH935 to usH5921;we will notH3808 seeH7200 swordH2719 or famineH7458.13The prophetsH5030 areH1961 but windH7307,for the wordH1699 is notH369 in them.So letH3541 their own predictions befallH6213 them.1”

Judgment Proclaimed

14ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 GodH430 of HostsH6635 saysH559:

“BecauseH3282 you have spokenH1696 thisH2088H2005 wordH1697,I will makeH5414 My wordsH1697 a fireH784 in your mouthH6310and thisH2088 peopleH5971 the woodH6086 it consumesH398.15BeholdH2005, I am bringingH935 a distantH4801 nationH1471 against youH5921,O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478,” declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.“ItH1931 is an establishedH386 nationH1471,an ancientH5769H1931 nationH1471,a nationH1471 whose languageH3956 you do notH3808 knowH3045and whose speechH4100H1696 you do notH3808 understandH8085.16Their quiversH827 are like openH6605 gravesH6913;they are allH3605 mighty menH1368.17They will devourH398 your harvestH7105 and foodH3899;they will consumeH398 your sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323;they will eat upH398 your flocksH6629 and herdsH1241;they will feed onH398 your vinesH1612 and fig treesH8384.With the swordH2719 they will destroyH7567the fortifiedH4013 citiesH5892 in whichH834 youH859 trustH982.”

18“Yet evenH1571 in thoseH1992 daysH3117,” declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, “I will notH3808 makeH6213 a full endH3617 of youH854. 19AndH1961 whenH3588 the people askH559, ‘ForH8478 whatH4100 offense has the LORDH3068 our GodH430 doneH6213 allH3605 these things to usH428?’ You are to tellH559 themH413, ‘Just asH834 you have forsakenH5800 MeH853 and servedH5647 foreignH5236 godsH430 in your landH776, soH3651 will you serveH5647 foreignersH2114 in a landH776 that is notH3808 your own.’”

20DeclareH5046 thisH2063 in the houseH1004 of JacobH3290 and proclaimH8085 it in JudahH3063:

21“HearH8085H4994 thisH2063,O foolishH5530 and senselessH369H3820 peopleH5971,who have eyesH5869 but do notH3808 seeH7200,who have earsH241 but do notH3808 hearH8085.22Do you notH3808 fear MeH3372?”declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.“Do you notH3808 trembleH2342 before MeH6440,the One whoH834 setH7760 the sandH2344 as the boundaryH1366 for the seaH3220,an enduringH5769 barrierH2706 it cannotH3808 crossH5674?The wavesH1530 surgeH1607, but they cannotH3808 prevailH3201.They roarH1993 but cannotH3808 cross itH5674.
23But theseH2088 peopleH5971 haveH1961 stubbornH5637 and rebelliousH4784 heartsH3820.They have turned asideH5493 and gone awayH1980.24They have notH3808 saidH559 in their heartsH3824,‘Let us fearH3372H4994 the LORDH3068 our GodH430,who givesH5414 the rainsH1653, both autumnH3138 and springH4456, in seasonH6256,who keepsH8104 for us the appointedH2708 weeksH7620 of harvestH7105.’
25Your iniquitiesH5771 have divertedH5186 these from youH428;your sinsH2403 have deprivedH4513 you of My bountyH2896.26ForH3588 amongH4672 My peopleH5971 are wicked menH7563;they watchH7789 like fowlersH3353 lying in waitH7918;they setH5324 a trapH4889 to catchH3920 menH582.27Like cagesH3619 full ofH4392 birdsH5775,soH3651 their housesH1004 are full ofH4392 deceitH4820.ThereforeH5921H3651 they have become powerfulH1431 and richH6238.
28They have grown fatH8080 and sleekH6245,andH1571 have excelledH5674 in the deedsH1697 of the wickedH7451.They have notH3808 taken up the causeH1779H1777 of the fatherlessH3490,that they might prosperH6743;nor have theyH3808 defendedH8199the rightsH4941 of the needyH34.29Should I notH3808 punish themH6485 forH5921 these thingsH428?”declaresH5002 the LORDH3068.“Should I notH3808 avengeH5358 MyselfH5315on such a nationH1471 as thisH2088?
30A horribleH8047 and shocking thingH8186has happenedH1961 in the landH776.31The prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012 falselyH8267,and the priestsH3548 ruleH7287 byH5921 their own authorityH3027.My peopleH5971 loveH157 it soH3651,but whatH4100 will you doH6213 in the endH319?
