Jerusalem Captured

11Now whenH3512 JerusalemH3389 was capturedH3920 23in the ninthH8671 yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the tenthH6224 monthH2320, NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and allH3605 his armyH2428 cameH935 to JerusalemH3389 and laidH6696 siegeH6696 to it; 2in the eleventhH6249H6240 yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667, in the fourthH7243 monthH2320, in the ninthH8672 day of the monthH2320, the cityH5892 wall was 4breachedH1234. 3Then allH3605 the 5officialsH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935 inH935 and satH3427 downH3427 at the 6MiddleH8432 GateH8179: Nergal-sar-ezerH5371, Samgar-nebuH5562, Sar-sekimH8310 the 7Rab-sarisH7249, Nergal-sar-ezerH5371 the 8Rab-magH7248, and allH3605 the restH7611 of the officialsH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894. 4And whenH3512 ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and allH3605 the menH376 of warH4421 sawH7200 them, they 9fledH1272 and leftH3318 the cityH5892 at nightH3915 by wayH1870 of the king’sH4428 gardenH1588 through the gateH8179 10betweenH996 the two wallsH2346; and he wentH3318 outH3318 towardH1870 the 11ArabahH6160. 5But the armyH2428 of the 12ChaldeansH3778 pursuedH7291 them and overtookH5381 ZedekiahH6667 in the 13plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405; and they tookH3947 him and broughtH5927 him upH5927 to NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 at 14RiblahH7247 in the landH776 of HamathH2574, and he 15passedH1696 sentenceH1696 on him. 6Then the 16kingH4428 of BabylonH894 slaughteredH7819 the sonsH1121 of ZedekiahH6667 17before his eyesH5869 at RiblahH7247; the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 also slaughteredH7819 allH3605 the 18noblesH2715 of JudahH3063. 7He then 19blindedH5786 Zedekiah’sH6667 eyesH5869 and boundH631 him in 20shacklesH5178 ofH5178 bronzeH5178 to bringH935 him to 21BabylonH894. 8The ChaldeansH3778 also 22burnedH8313 the king’sH4428 palaceH1004 and the housesH1004 of the peopleH5971 with fireH784, and they 23toreH5422 downH5422 the wallsH2346 of JerusalemH3389. 9And as for the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 who were leftH7604 in the cityH5892, the 24desertersH5307 whoH834 had desertedH5307 to him and 25the restH3499 of the peopleH5971 who remainedH7604, 26NebuzaradanH5018 the 27captainH7227 of the bodyguardH2876 tookH1540 them intoH1540 exileH1540 in BabylonH894. 10But someH4480 of the 28poorestH1800 peopleH5971, whoH834 hadH369 nothingH369H3972, 29NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the bodyguardH2876 leftH7604 behindH7604 in the landH776 of JudahH3063, and gaveH5414 them vineyardsH3754 and fieldsH3010 30at that timeH3117.

Jeremiah Spared

11Now NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 gaveH6680 ordersH6680 regardingH5921 31JeremiahH3414 throughH3027 NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the bodyguardH2876, sayingH559, 12“TakeH3947 him and 32lookH5869H7760 afterH5921 him, and 33do not doH6213 anythingH3972 harmfulH7451 to him, but ratherH3588H518 dealH6213 with him justH3512 asH3512 he tellsH1696 you.” 13So NebuzaradanH5018 the captainH7227 of the bodyguardH2876 sentH7971 word, along with NebushazbanH5021 the 34Rab-sarisH7249, Nergal-sar-ezerH5371 the 35Rab-magH7248, and allH3605 the leadingH7227 officersH7227 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894; 14they even sentH7971 word and 36tookH3947 JeremiahH3414 out of the courtyardH2691 of the guardhouseH4307 and entrustedH5414 him to 37GedaliahH1436, the sonH1121 of 38AhikamH296, the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, to takeH3318 him homeH1004. So he stayedH3427 amongH8432 the peopleH5971.

15Now the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 had comeH1961 to JeremiahH3414 while he was 39confinedH6113 in the courtyardH2691 of the guardhouseH4307, sayingH559, 16“GoH1980 and speakH559 to 40Ebed-melechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, sayingH559, ‘ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 of armiesH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saysH559: “BeholdH2009, I am going to bringH935 My wordsH1697 on thisH2088 cityH5892 41for disasterH7463 and not for 42prosperityH2899; and they will 43takeH1961 placeH1961 beforeH6440 you on that dayH3117. 17But I will 44saveH5337 you on that dayH3117,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “and you will not be handedH5414H3027 overH5414 to the menH376 of whomH834 you are afraidH3016. 18For I will assuredlyH4422 rescueH4422 you, and you will not fallH5307 by the swordH2719; but you will haveH1961 your own 45lifeH5315 as plunderH7998, becauseH3588 you have 46trustedH982 in Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068.’”
