Jeremiah 39

1(in the ninthH8671 yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the tenthH6224 monthH2320, cameH935 Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 and all his armyH2428 against JerusalemH3389, and besieged it; 2in the eleventh yearH8141 of ZedekiahH6667, in the fourthH7243 monthH2320, the ninth day of the monthH2320, a breach was made in the cityH5892), 3that all the princesH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 cameH935 in, and satH3427 in the middleH8432 gateH8179, to wit, Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-sarisH7249, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-magH7248, with all the restH7611 of the princesH8269 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894.

4And it came to pass that, when ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and all the menH376 of warH4421 sawH7200 them, then they fledH1272, and wentH3318 forthH3318 out of the cityH5892 by nightH3915, by the wayH1870 of the king’sH4428 gardenH1588, through the gateH8179 betwixt the two wallsH2346; and he wentH3318 out toward the ArabahH6160. 5But the armyH2428 of the ChaldeansH3778 pursuedH7291 after them, and overtookH5381 ZedekiahH6667 in the plainsH6160 of JerichoH3405: and when they had takenH3947 him, they broughtH5927 him up to Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 to RiblahH7247 in the landH776 of HamathH2574; and he gave judgmentH4941 upon him. 6Then the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 slew the sonsH1121 of ZedekiahH6667 in RiblahH7247 before his eyesH5869: also the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 slew all the nobles of JudahH3063. 7Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyesH5869, and boundH631 him in fettersH5178, to carry him to BabylonH894. 8And the ChaldeansH3778 burnedH8313 the king’sH4428 houseH1004, and the housesH1004 of the peopleH5971, with fireH784, and brake down the wallsH2346 of JerusalemH3389. 9Then NebuzaradanH5018 the captain of the guard carried away captive into BabylonH894 the residue of the peopleH5971 that remainedH7604 in the cityH5892, the deserters also that fellH5307 away to him, and the residue of the peopleH5971 that remainedH7604. 10But NebuzaradanH5018 the captain of the guard leftH7604 of the poorH1800 of the peopleH5971, that had nothingH369, in the landH776 of JudahH3063, and gaveH5414 them vineyardsH3754 and fields at the same time.

11Now Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 gave charge concerning JeremiahH3414 to NebuzaradanH5018 the captain of the guard, sayingH559, 12TakeH3947 him, and look well to him, and do him no harmH7451; but do unto him even as he shall sayH1696 unto thee. 13So NebuzaradanH5018 the captain of the guard sentH7971, and Nebushazban, Rab-sarisH7249, and Nergal-sharezer, Rab-magH7248, and all the chief officers of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894; 14they sentH7971, and tookH3947 JeremiahH3414 out of the courtH2691 of the guardH4307, and committed him unto GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of AhikamH296, the sonH1121 of ShaphanH8227, that he should carry him home. So he dweltH3427 among the peopleH5971.

15Now the wordH1697 of Jehovah came unto JeremiahH3414, while he wasH1961 shutH6113 up in the courtH2691 of the guardH4307, sayingH559, 16GoH1980, and speak to Ebed-melechH5663 the Ethiopian, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: Behold, I will bringH935 my wordsH1697 upon this cityH5892 for evilH7451, and not for goodH2896; and they shall beH1961 accomplished before thee in that dayH3117. 17But I will deliverH5337 thee in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah; and thou shalt not be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the menH376 of whom thou art afraid. 18For I will surely saveH4422 thee, and thou shalt not fallH5307 by the swordH2719, but thy lifeH5315 shall beH1961 for a prey unto thee; because thou hast put thy trustH982 in me, saith Jehovah.
