Acts 22:17-30
17And it cameG1096 to passG1096 when I had returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2419, and as I was prayingG4336 in the temple, that I becameG1096 in ecstasy, 18and sawG3708 him sayingG3004 to me, Make haste and goG1831 quickly out of JerusalemG2419, for they will not receiveG3858 thy testimonyG3141 concerningG4012 me. 19And I saidG3004, LordG2962, they themselves knowG1987 that I wasG1510 imprisoning and beatingG1194 in every synagogueG4864 those that believeG4100 on thee; 20and whenG3753 the bloodG129 of thy witnessG3144 StephenG4736 wasG1510 shed, I alsoG2532 myself wasG1510 standing by and consenting, and keptG5442 the clothesG2440 of them who killed him. 21And he saidG3004 to me, GoG4198, for I will send thee to the nationsG1484 afar off. 22And they heardG191 him until this wordG3056, and liftedG1869 up their voiceG5456, sayingG3004, AwayG142 with such a oneG3778 as that from the earthG1093, for it was not fit he should liveG2198. 23And as they were crying, and throwing away their clothesG2440, and castingG906 dustG2868 into the airG109, 24the chiliarch commandedG2753 him to be broughtG1521 into the fortress, sayingG3004 that he should be examined by scourging, that he might ascertain for what causeG156 they cried thusG3779 against him. 25But as they stretched him forward with the thongs, PaulG3972 saidG3004 to the centurionG1543 who stoodG2476 [by], Is it lawfulG1832 for you to scourge a manG444 [who is] a RomanG4514 and uncondemnedG178? 26And the centurionG1543, having heardG191 it, went and reportedG518 it to the chiliarch, sayingG3004, What art thou going to do? for this manG444 isG1510 a RomanG4514. 27And the chiliarch comingG4334 up saidG3004 to him, TellG3004 me, Art thou a RomanG4514? And he saidG3004, YesG3483. 28And the chiliarch answeredG611, I, for a greatG4183 sumG2774, bought this citizenship. And PaulG3972 saidG5346, But I was alsoG2532 [free] bornG1080. 29ImmediatelyG2112 thereforeG3767 those who wereG1510 going to examine him left him, and the chiliarch alsoG2532 wasG1510 afraidG5399 when he ascertained that he wasG1510 a RomanG4514, and because he had boundG1210 him. 30And on the morrow, desirous to knowG1097 the certainty [of the matter] whyG5101 he was accusedG2723 of the JewsG2453, he loosedG3089 him, and commandedG2753 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and all the councilG4892 to meet, and having broughtG2609 PaulG3972 downG2609 setG2476 him before them.
