Acts 22:17-30
17And it cameG1096 to passG1096, that, when I had returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2419, and while I prayedG4336 in the temple, I fell into a tranceG1611, 18and sawG3708 him sayingG3004 unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of JerusalemG2419; because they will not receiveG3858 of thee testimonyG3141 concerningG4012 me. 19And I saidG3004, LordG2962, they themselves knowG1987 that I imprisoned and beatG1194 in every synagogueG4864 them that believedG4100 on thee: 20and whenG3753 the bloodG129 of StephenG4736 thy witnessG3144 wasG1510 shed, I alsoG2532 wasG1510 standing by, and consenting, and keepingG5442 the garmentsG2440 of them that slew him. 21And he saidG3004 unto me, DepartG4198: for I will send thee forthG1821 farG3112 hence unto the GentilesG1484.
22And they gave him audience unto this wordG3056; and they liftedG1869 up their voiceG5456, and saidG3004, AwayG142 with such a fellow from the earthG1093: for it is not fit that he should liveG2198. 23And as they cried out, and threw off their garmentsG2440, and castG906 dustG2868 into the airG109, 24the chief captain commandedG2753 him to be broughtG1521 into the castle, bidding that he should be examined by scourging, that he might knowG1921 for what causeG156 they soG2443 shouted against him. 25And whenG5613 they had tied him up with the thongs, PaulG3972 saidG3004 unto the centurionG1543 that stoodG2476 by, Is it lawfulG1832 for you to scourge a manG444 that is a RomanG4514, and uncondemnedG178? 26And when the centurionG1543 heardG191 it, he went to the chief captain and toldG3004 him, sayingG3004, What art thou about to do? for this manG444 isG1510 a RomanG4514. 27And the chief captain cameG4334 and saidG3004 unto him, TellG3004 me, art thou a RomanG4514? And he saidG3004, Yea. 28And the chief captain answeredG611, With a greatG4183 sumG2774 obtained I this citizenship. And PaulG3972 saidG5346, But I am a Roman bornG1080. 29They then that wereG1510 about to examine him straightway departedG868 from him: and the chief captain alsoG2532 wasG1510 afraidG5399 when he knewG1921 that he wasG1510 a RomanG4514, and because he had boundG1210 him.
30But on the morrow, desiring to knowG1097 the certainty wherefore he was accusedG2723 of the JewsG2453, he loosedG3089 him, and commandedG2753 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and all the councilG4892 to comeG4905 togetherG4905, and broughtG2609 PaulG3972 downG2609 and setG2476 him before them.
