Luke 20:19-44
19The scribesG1122 and the chiefG749 priestsG749 1triedG2212 to layG1911 handsG5495 on Him that veryG846 hourG5610, and yet they fearedG5399 the peopleG2992; for they were awareG1097 that He had spokenG3004 thisG3778 parableG3850 againstG4314 them. 202And so they watchedG3906 Him 3closelyG3906, and sentG649 spiesG1455 who pretendedG5271 to be righteousG1342, inG2443 orderG2443 4that they might catchG1949 Him in some statementG3056, soG5620 thatG5620 they could handG3860 Him overG3860 to the jurisdictionG746 and authorityG1849 of 5the governorG2232. 21And the spies questionedG1905 Him, sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, we knowG3609 that You speakG3004 and teachG1321 correctlyG3723, and You 6are not partialG2983G4383 to anyone, but You teachG1321 the wayG3598 of GodG2316 on the basisG1909 of truthG225. 22Is it 7permissibleG1832 for us 8to payG1325 taxesG5411 to CaesarG2541, orG2228 not?” 23But He sawG2657 throughG2657 their trickeryG3834 and saidG3004 to them, 24“ShowG1166 Me a 9denariusG1220. WhoseG5101 imageG1504 and inscriptionG1923 does it haveG2192?” They saidG3004, “Caesar’sG2541.” 25And He saidG3004 to them, “ThenG5106 10payG591 to CaesarG2541 the things that are Caesar’sG2541, and to GodG2316 the things that are God’sG2316.” 26And they were unableG3756G2480 to 11catchG1949 Him in a statementG4487 inG1726 theG1726 presenceG1726 of the peopleG2992; and they wereG2296 amazedG2296 at His answerG612, and saidG4601 nothingG4601.
2712NowG1161 someG5100 of the 13SadduceesG4523 (who maintainG483 that there is noG3361 resurrectionG386) cameG4334 to Him, 28and they questionedG1905 Him, sayingG3004, “TeacherG1320, MosesG3475 wroteG1125 for us that 14ifG1437 15a man’sG5100 brotherG80 diesG599, 16leavingG2192 a wifeG1135, and he is childlessG815, that his brotherG80 is to 17marryG2983 the wifeG1135 and raiseG1817 upG1817 childrenG4690 18for his brotherG80. 29SoG3767 thenG3767, there were sevenG2033 brothersG80; and the firstG4413 tookG2983 a wifeG1135 and diedG599 childlessG815; 30and the secondG1208 31and the thirdG5154 19marriedG2983 her; and in the sameG5615 wayG5615 20allG3588 sevenG2033 21diedG599, leavingG2641 noG3756 childrenG5043. 32FinallyG5305 the womanG1135 alsoG2532 diedG599. 33ThereforeG3767, in the resurrectionG386, 22whichG5101 one’sG846 wifeG1135 does the woman becomeG1096? For 23allG3588 sevenG2033 24marriedG2192G1135 her.”
34JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “The sonsG5207 of 25thisG3778 ageG165 marryG1060 and the women are givenG1061 inG1061 marriageG1061, 35but thoseG3588 who are consideredG2661 worthyG2661 to attainG5177 to 26that ageG165 and the resurrectionG386 from the deadG3498, neitherG3777 marryG1060 norG3777 are givenG1061 inG1061 marriageG1061; 36for they cannotG1410G3761 evenG3761 dieG599 anymoreG2089, for they are likeG2465 angelsG2465, and are 27sonsG5207 of GodG2316, beingG1510 28sonsG5207 of the resurrectionG386. 37But as for theG3754 factG3754 thatG3754 the deadG3498 are raisedG1453, evenG2532 MosesG3475 revealedG3377 this in 29the passage about the burning bushG942, whereG5613 he callsG3004 the LordG2962 30the GodG2316 of AbrahamG11, the GodG2316 of IsaacG2464, and the GodG2316 of JacobG2384. 3831NowG1161 He is not the GodG2316 of the deadG3498, but of the livingG2198; for 32allG3956 liveG2198 to Him.” 39SomeG5100 of the scribesG1122 answeredG611 and saidG3004, “TeacherG1320, You have spokenG3004 wellG2573.” 40For 33they did not haveG5111 the courageG5111 to questionG1905 Him anyG3765 longerG3765 about anythingG3762.
4134But He saidG3004 to them, “HowG4459 is it that they sayG3004 the 35ChristG5547 is 36David’sG1160 sonG5207? 42For DavidG1160 himselfG846 saysG3004 in the bookG976 of PsalmsG5568, ‘37The LordG2962 saidG3004 to my LordG2962, “SitG2521 at My rightG1188 handG1188,4338UntilG2193 I makeG5087 Your enemiesG2190 a footstoolG5286 for Your feetG4228.”’ 44ThereforeG3767 DavidG1160 callsG2564 Him ‘LordG2962,’ and so howG4459 is He his sonG5207?”
