20And sothey watchedG3906HimcloselyG3906,and sentἀπέστειλανapesteilanG649spiesἐγκαθέτουςegkathetousG1455who pretendedὑποκρινομένουςhupokrinomenousG5271to be righteousδικαίουςdikaiousG1342,inG2443orderG2443that they might catchἐπιλάβωνταιepilabōntaiG1949Him in somestatementλόγου,logouG3056,soG5620thatG5620they couldhandG3860Him overG3860to the jurisdictionἀρχῇarchēaG746and authorityἐξουσίᾳexousiaG1849ofthe governorἡγεμόνος.hēgemonosG2232.

21And the spiesquestionedἐπηρώτησανepērōtēsanG1905Him, sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320,we knowG3609that You speakλέγειςlegeisG3004and teachδιδάσκειςdidaskeisG1321correctlyὀρθῶςorthōsG3723, and Youare not partialλαμβάνεις πρόσωπονlambaneis prosōponG2983 G4383to anyone, but You teachδιδάσκεις.didaskeisG1321the wayὁδὸνhodonG3598of GodθεοῦtheouG2316on the basisἐπ᾽ep᾽G1909of truthἀληθείαςalētheiasG225.

22Is itpermissibleἔξεστινexestinG1832for usto payδοῦναιdounaiG1325taxesφόρονphoronG5411to CaesarΚαίσαριKaisariG2541,orἢēG2228not?”

23But He sawG2657throughG2657their trickeryπανουργίανpanourgianG3834and saidG3004to them,

24“ShowδείξατέdeixateG1166Me adenariusδηνάριον·dēnarionG1220.WhoseτίνοςtinosG5101imageεἰκόναeikonaG1504and inscriptionἐπιγραφήν;epigraphēnG1923does it haveἔχειecheiG2192?”They saidG3004, “Caesar’sΚαίσαρος.KaisarosG2541.”

25And He saidG3004to them,“ThenτοίνυνtoinunG5106payἀπόδοτεapodoteG591to CaesarΚαίσαροςKaisarosG2541the things that are Caesar’sΚαίσαριKaisariG2541,and to GodθεοῦtheouG2316the things that are God’sθεῷ.theōG2316.”

26And they were unableοὐκ ἴσχυσανouk ischusanG3756 G2480tocatchἐπιλαβέσθαιepilabesthaiG1949Him in a statementῥήματοςrhēmatosG4487inG1726theG1726presenceG1726of the peopleλαοῦ,laouG2992;and they wereG2296amazedG2296at His answerἀποκρίσειapokriseiG612,and saidG4601nothingG4601.

27NowδέdeG1161someτινεςtinesG5100of theSadduceesΣαδδουκαίων,SaddoukaiōnG4523(who maintainἀντιλέγοντεςantilegontesG483that there is noμὴmēG3361resurrectionἀνάστασινanastasinG386)cameΠροσελθόντεςProselthontesG4334to Him,

28and they questionedG1905Him, sayingλέγοντες·legontesG3004, “Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320,MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475wroteἔγραψενegrapsenG1125for us thatifἐάνeanG1437a man’sτινοςtinosG5100brotherἀδελφὸςadelphosG80diesἀποθάνῃapothanēG599,leavingἔχωνechōnG2192a wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135,and he is childlessἄτεκνοςateknosG815,that his brotherἀδελφὸςadelphosG80is tomarryλάβῃlabēG2983the wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135and raiseἐξαναστήσῃexanastēsēG1817upG1817childrenσπέρμαspermaG4690for his brotherἀδελφῷadelphōG80.

29SoG3767thenG3767,there were sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033brothersἀδελφοὶadelphoiG80;and the firstπρῶτοςprōtosG4413tookλαβὼνlabōnG2983a wifeγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135and diedἀπέθανενapethanenG599childlessἄτεκνος,ateknosG815;

30and the secondδεύτεροςdeuterosG1208

31and the thirdτρίτοςtritosG5154marriedἔλαβενelabenG2983her; and in the sameG5615wayG5615allG3588sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033diedἀπέθανον.apethanonG599,leavingκατέλιπονkateliponG2641noοὐouG3756childrenτέκναteknaG5043.

32FinallyG5305the womanγυνὴgunēG1135alsoκαὶkaiG2532diedἀπέθανεν.apethanenG599.

33ThereforeοὖνounG3767,in the resurrectionἀναστάσει,anastaseiG386,whichτίνοςtinosG5101one’sG846wifeG1135does the woman becomeγίνεταιginetaiG1096? ForallG3588sevenἑπτὰheptaG2033marriedἔσχονeschonG2192 G1135her.”

34JesusἸησοῦς·IēsousG2424saidG3004to them,“The sonsυἱοὶhuioiG5207ofthisτούτουtoutouG3778ageαἰῶνοςaiōnosG165marryγαμοῦσινgamousinG1060and the womenare givenG1061inG1061marriageγαμίσκονται,gamiskontaiG1061,

35but thoseG3588who are consideredG2661worthyκαταξιωθέντεςkataxiōthentesG2661to attainτυχεῖνtucheinG5177tothat ageαἰῶνοςaiōnosG165and the resurrectionἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsG386from the deadνεκρῶνnekrōnG3498,neitherοὔτεouteG3777marryγαμοῦσινgamousinG1060norοὔτεouteG3777are givenG1061inG1061marriageγαμίζονται·gamizontaiG1061;

36for they cannotδύνανται,dunantaiG1410 G3761evenG3761dieἀποθανεῖνapothaneinG599anymoreἔτιetiG2089,for they are likeG2465angelsG2465, and aresonsυἱοίhuioiG5207of GodθεοῦtheouG2316,beingG1510sonsυἱοὶhuioiG5207of the resurrectionἀναστάσεωςanastaseōsG386.

37But as fortheG3754factG3754thatG3754the deadνεκροί,nekroiG3498are raisedἐγείρονταιegeirontaiG1453,evenG2532MosesΜωϋσῆςMōusēsG3475revealedἐμήνυσενemēnusenG3377this in the passage about the burningbushβάτουbatouG942,whereὡςhōsG5613he callsλέγειlegeiG3004the LordκύριονkurionG2962the GodθεὸνtheonG2316of AbrahamἈβραὰμAbraamG11,the GodθεὸνtheonG2316of IsaacἸσαὰκIsaakG2464,and the GodθεὸνtheonG2316of JacobἸακώβ.IakōbG2384.

38NowδὲdeG1161He is not the GodθεὸςtheosG2316of the deadνεκρῶνnekrōnG3498,but of the livingζώντων·zōntōnG2198; forallπάντεςpantesG3956liveζῶσιν.¶zōsinG2198to Him.”

39SomeτινεςtinesG5100of the scribesγραμματέωνgrammateōnG1122answeredἈποκριθέντεςApokrithentesG611and saidG3004, “Teacherδιδάσκαλε,didaskaleG1320,You have spokenG3004wellκαλῶςkalōsG2573.”

40Forthey did not haveG5111the courageG5111to questionἐπερωτᾶνeperōtanG1905Him anyG3765longerG3765about anythingοὐδέν.¶oudenG3762.

41But He saidG3004to them,“HowπῶςpōsG4459is it thatthey sayG3004theChristχριστὸνchristonG5547isDavid’sG1160sonυἱόν;huionG5207?
