2NowδὲdeG1161I praiseἘπαινῶEpainōG1867you becauseὅτιhotiG3754yourememberμέμνησθε,memnēstheG3403me in everythingπάνταpantaG3956andholdG2722firmlyG2722to the traditionsπαραδόσειςparadoseisG3862,justκαθὼςkathōsG2531as I deliveredπαρέδωκαparedōkaG3860them to you.

3But I wantΘέλωThelōG2309you to understandG3609thatChristΧριστόςChristosG5547is theheadκεφαλὴkephalēG2776of everyπαντὸςpantosG3956manἀνδρὸςandrosG435, andthe manἀνήρ·anērG435is the headκεφαλὴkephalēG2776of a womanγυναικὸςgunaikosG1135,and Godθεός.¶theosG2316is theheadκεφαλὴkephalēG2776ofChristΧριστοῦChristouG5547.

4EveryΠᾶςPasG3956manἀνὴρanērG435who hasἔχωνechōnG2192somethingon his headκεφαλῆςkephalēsG2776while prayingπροσευχόμενοςproseuchomenosG4336orἢēG2228prophesyingπροφητεύωνprophēteuōnG4395disgracesκαταισχύνειkataischuneiG2617his headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776.

5But everyπᾶσαpasaG3956womanγυνὴgunēG1135who has her headκεφαλῇkephalēaG2776uncoveredἀκατακαλύπτῳakatakaluptōG177while prayingπροσευχομένηproseuchomenēG4336orἢēG2228prophesyingπροφητεύουσαprophēteuousaG4395disgracesκαταισχύνειkataischuneiG2617her headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776,for she is oneἓνhenG1520and the sameG846as the womanG1135whose head isshavedἐξυρημένῃ.exurēmenēG3587.

6For ifεἰeiG1487a womanγυνή,gunēG1135does not coverκατακαλύπτεταιkatakaluptetaiG2619her head, let her alsoκαὶkaiG2532have her hairG2751cutG2751offG2751;but ifεἰeiG1487it is disgracefulαἰσχρὸνaischronG150for a womanγυναικὶgunaikiG1135tohave her hairG2751cutG2751offG2751orἢēG2228her head shavedξυρᾶσθαι,xurasthaiG3587,let her coverκατακαλυπτέσθω.¶katakaluptesthōG2619her head.

7For a manἈνὴρAnērG435oughtὀφείλειopheileiG3784not to have his headκεφαλὴνkephalēnG2776coveredκατακαλύπτεσθαιkatakaluptesthaiG2619, since he is theimageεἰκὼνeikōnG1504and gloryδόξαdoxaG1391of GodθεοῦtheouG2316;but the womanγυνὴgunēG1135is the gloryδόξαdoxaG1391of manἀνδρόςandrosG435.

8FormanἀνὴρanērG435does not originateἐστινestinG1510from womanγυναικὸςgunaikosG1135,but womanγυνὴgunēG1135from manἀνδρός·androsG435;

9for indeedκαὶkaiG2532manἀνὴρanērG435was not createdἐκτίσθηektisthēG2936for the woman’sγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135sakeδιὰdiaG1223, butwomanγυνὴgunēG1135for the man’sἄνδρα·andraG435sakeδιὰdiaG1223.

10Thereforeδιὰ τοῦτοdia toutoG1223 G3778the womanγυνὴgunēG1135oughtὀφείλειopheileiG3784to haveἔχεινecheinG2192a symbol ofauthorityἐξουσίανexousianG1849on her headκεφαλῆςkephalēsG2776,becauseδιὰdiaG1223of the angelsἀγγέλους.angelousG32.

11HoweverπλὴνplēnG4133,in the Lordκυρίῳ·kuriōG2962,neitherοὔτεouteG3777is womanγυνὴgunēG1135independentχωρὶςchōrisG5565of manἀνδρὸςandrosG435,norοὔτεouteG3777is manἀνὴρanērG435independentχωρὶςchōrisG5565of womanγυναικὸςgunaikosG1135.

12For as the womanγυνὴgunēG1135originates from the manἀνδρὸςandrosG435,soοὕτωςhoutōsG3779alsoκαὶkaiG2532the manἀνὴρanērG435has his birththroughδιὰdiaG1223the womanγυναικός,gunaikosG1135; andallG3956thingsπάνταpantaG3956originatefrom Godθεοῦ.theouG2316.

13Judgeκρίνατε·krinateG2919for yourselvesὑμῖν αὐτοῖςhumin autoisG4771 G846:is it properπρέπονpreponG4241for a womanγυναῖκαgunaikaG1135to prayπροσεύχεσθαι;proseuchesthaiG4336to GodθεῷtheōG2316with her headuncoveredἀκατακάλυπτονakatakaluptonG177?

14Does not evenοὐδὲoudeG3761natureφύσιςphusisG5449itselfG846teachδιδάσκειdidaskeiG1321you that ifἐὰνeanG1437a manἀνὴρanērG435hasG2863longκομᾷ,komaG2863hairG2863,it is a dishonorἀτιμίαatimiaG819to him,

15but ifἐὰνeanG1437a womanγυνὴgunēG1135hasG2863longκομᾷ,komaG2863hairG2863,it is a gloryδόξαdoxaG1391to her? For her hairκόμηkomēG2864is givenδέδοταιdedotaiG1325to her for a coveringπεριβολαίουperibolaiouG4018.

16But ifεἰeiG1487oneτιςtisG5100is inclinedδοκεῖdokeiG1380to be contentiousφιλόνεικοςphiloneikosG5380,we haveἔχομενechomenG2192noοὐκoukG3756otherτοιαύτηνtoiautēnG5108practiceσυνήθειανsunētheianG4914,norοὐδὲoudeG3761havethe churchesἐκκλησίαιekklēsiaiG1577of Godθεοῦ.¶theouG2316.

17But in givingG3853thisΤοῦτοToutoG3778instructionG3853,I do not praiseἐπαινῶepainōG1867you, becauseὅτιhotiG3754you comeσυνέρχεσθε.¶sunerchestheG4905togetherG4905not for the betterG2909but for the worseG2269.

18For, in the firstΠρῶτονPrōtonG4413place, when you comeG4905togetherσυνερχομένωνsunerchomenōnG4905as a churchἐκκλησίᾳekklēsiaG1577,I hearἀκούωakouōG191thatdivisionsσχίσματαschismataG4978existὑπάρχειν,huparcheinG5225amongG1722you; and in partμέροςmerosG3313I believeπιστεύω·pisteuōG4100it.

19For theremustδεῖdeiG1163alsoG2532be factionsαἱρέσειςhaireseisG139amongἐνenG1722you,soἵναinaG2443that thoseοἱhoiG3588who are approvedδόκιμοιdokimoiG1384may becomeγένωνταιgenōntaiG1096evidentφανεροὶphaneroiG5318amongἐνenG1722you.

20ThereforeοὖνounG3767when you meetσυνερχομένωνsunerchomenōnG4905togetherἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸepi to autoG1909 G3588 G846,it is not to eatG2068the Lord’sκυριακὸνkuriakonG2960SupperδεῖπνονdeipnonG1173,

21for in your eatingG2068eachG1538oneἕκαστοςhekastosG1538takesG4301his ownἴδιονidionG2398supperδεῖπνονdeipnonG1173firstG4301;and oneὃς μὲνhos menG3739 G3303is hungryπεινᾷ,peinaG3983andanotherὃς δὲhos deG3739 G1161is drunkμεθύει.methueiG3184.

22WhatγὰρgarG1063!Do you not haveἔχετεecheteG2192housesοἰκίαςoikiasG3614in which to eatἐσθίεινesthieinG2068and drinkπίνειν;pineinG4095?OrἢēG2228do you despiseκαταφρονεῖτεkataphroneiteG2706thechurchἐκκλησίαςekklēsiasG1577of GodθεοῦtheouG2316andshameκαταισχύνετεkataischuneteG2617thoseG3588who haveἔχοντας;echontasG2192nothingG3361?WhatτίtiG5101shall I sayG3004to you? ShallI praiseἐπαινέσωepainesōG1867you? In thisτούτῳ;toutōG3778I will not praiseἐπαινῶ.epainōG1867you.

23ForI receivedπαρέλαβονparelabonG3880from the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962that whichὃhoG3739I alsoκαὶkaiG2532deliveredπαρέδωκαparedōkaG3860to you, thatthe LordκύριοςkuriosG2962JesusἸησοῦςIēsousG2424in the nightνυκτὶnuktiG3571in whichᾗhēG3739He was betrayedπαρεδίδετοparedidetoG3860tookἔλαβενelabenG2983breadἄρτον,artonG740;

24and when He had givenG2168thanksεὐχαριστήσαςeucharistēsasG2168,He brokeἔκλασενeklasenG2806it and saidG3004,“ThisτοῦτόtoutoG3778is My bodyσῶμαsōmaG4983,which is for you; doποιεῖτεpoieiteG4160thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778in remembranceἀνάμνησιν.anamnēsinG364of Me.”

25In the sameG5615wayG5615He tookthe cupποτήριονpotērionG4221alsoκαὶkaiG2532afterμετὰmetaG3326supperδειπνῆσαιdeipnēsaiG1172,sayingλέγων·legōnG3004,“ThisτοῦτοtoutoG3778cupποτήριονpotērionG4221is thenewκαινὴkainēG2537covenantδιαθήκηdiathēkēG1242in My bloodαἵματι·aimatiG129;doποιεῖτε,poieiteG4160thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778,as oftenὁσάκιςhosakisG3740as you drinkπίνητε,pinēteG4095it,in remembranceἀνάμνησιν.anamnēsinG364of Me.”

26For as oftenὁσάκιςhosakisG3740as you eatἐσθίητεesthiēteG2068thisτοῦτονtoutonG3778breadἄρτονartonG740and drinkπίνητε,pinēteG4095the cupποτήριονpotērionG4221,you proclaimκαταγγέλλετεkatangelleteG2605the Lord’sκυρίουkuriouG2962deathθάνατονthanatonG2288untilἄχριachriG891He comesἔλθῃ.¶elthēG2064.

27ThereforeὭστεHōsteG5620whoeverὃς ἂνhos anG3739 G302eatsἐσθίῃesthiēG2068the breadἄρτονartonG740orἢēG2228drinksπίνῃpinēG4095the cupποτήριονpotērionG4221of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962in an unworthyG371mannerG371, shall beguiltyἔνοχοςenochosG1777of the bodyσώματοςsōmatosG4983and the bloodαἵματοςaimatosG129of the Lordκυρίου.kuriouG2962.

28But a manἄνθρωποςanthrōposG444mustexamineδοκιμαζέτωdokimazetōG1381himselfἑαυτόν,he'autonG1438,and in soοὕτωςhoutōsG3779doing he is to eatἐσθιέτωesthietōG2068of the breadἄρτουartouG740and drinkπινέτω·pinetōG4095of the cupποτηρίουpotēriouG4221.

29For he who eatsἐσθίωνesthiōnG2068and drinksπίνωνpinōnG4095,eatsἐσθίειesthieiG2068and drinksπίνειpineiG4095judgmentκρίμαkrimaG2917to himselfἑαυτῷhe'autōG1438if he does not judgeδιακρίνωνdiakrinōnG1252the bodyσῶμαsōmaG4983rightly.

30For thisτοῦτοtoutoG3778reasonδιὰdiaG1223manyπολλοὶpolloiG4183amongἐνenG1722you are weakἀσθενεῖςastheneisG772and sickἄρρωστοι,arrōstoiG732,and a numberἱκανοί.hikanoiG2425sleepκοιμῶνταιkoimōntaiG2837.

31But ifεἰeiG1487we judgedδιεκρίνομεν,diekrinomenG1252ourselvesἑαυτοὺςhe'autousG1438rightly, we would not be judgedἐκρινόμεθα·ekrinomethaG2919.

32But when we are judgedκρινόμενοιkrinomenoiG2919, we aredisciplinedπαιδευόμεθα,paideuomethaG3811by the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962soἵναinaG2443that we will not be condemnedκατακριθῶμεν.¶katakrithōmenG2632alongσὺνsunG4862withthe worldκόσμῳkosmōG2889.

33SoὭστε,HōsteG5620thenG5620,my brethrenἀδελφοίadelphoiG80,when you comeG4905togetherσυνερχόμενοιsunerchomenoiG4905to eatG2068,waitἐκδέχεσθε·ekdechestheG1551for oneἀλλήλουςallēlousG240anotherG240.

34IfεἴeiG1487anyoneτιςtisG5100ishungryπεινᾷ,peinaG3983,let him eatἐσθιέτω,esthietōG2068at homeοἴκῳoikōG3624,soἵναinaG2443that you will not comeσυνέρχησθε.sunerchēstheG4905togetherG4905for judgmentκρίμαkrimaG2917.The remainingλοιπὰloipaG3062matters I willarrangeδιατάξομαι.¶diataxomaiG1299whenὡςhōsG5613I comeἔλθωelthōG2064.
