Jeremiah 49
1Of the children of AmmonH5983. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Hath IsraelH3478 no sonsH1121? hath he no heir? whyH4069 then doth Malcam possessH3423 GadH1410, and his peopleH5971 dwellH3427 in the citiesH5892 thereof? 2ThereforeH3651, behold, the daysH3117 comeH935, saith Jehovah, that I will cause an alarmH8643 of warH4421 to beH1961 heardH8085 against RabbahH7237 of the children of AmmonH5983; and it shall becomeH1961 a desolate heap, and her daughtersH1323 shall beH1961 burnedH3341 with fireH784: then shall IsraelH3478 possessH3423 them that did possessH3423 him, saith Jehovah. 3WailH3213, O HeshbonH2809, for Ai is laid waste; cryH6817, ye daughtersH1323 of RabbahH7237, girdH2296 you with sackclothH8242: lamentH5594, and run to and fro among the fences; for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priestsH3548 and his princesH8269 togetherH3162. 4Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleysH6010, thy flowingH2100 valleyH6010, O backsliding daughterH1323? that trustedH982 in her treasuresH214, saying, Who shall comeH935 unto me? 5Behold, I will bringH935 a fearH6343 upon thee, saith the LordH136, Jehovah of hostsH6635, from all that are roundH5439 about thee; and ye shall be drivenH5080 out every manH376 right forth, and there shall be none to gatherH6908 togetherH6908 the fugitivesH5074. 6But afterward I will bringH7725 backH7725 the captivityH7622 of the children of AmmonH5983, saith Jehovah.
7Of EdomH123. ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Is wisdomH2451 no more in TemanH8487? is counselH6098 perishedH6 from the prudent? is their wisdomH2451 vanished? 8FleeH5127 ye, turnH6437 backH6437, dwellH3427 in the depths, O inhabitantsH3427 of DedanH1719; for I will bringH935 the calamityH343 of EsauH6215 upon him, the timeH6256 that I shall visitH6485 him. 9If grape-gatherers cameH935 to thee, would they not leaveH7604 some gleaning grapes? if thievesH1590 by nightH3915, would they not destroyH7843 till they had enough? 10But I have made EsauH6215 bare, I have uncoveredH1540 his secretH4565 placesH4565, and he shall not be ableH3201 to hideH2247 himself: his seedH2233 is destroyedH7703, and his brethren, and his neighborsH7934; and he is not. 11LeaveH5800 thy fatherlessH3490 children, I will preserveH2421 them aliveH2421; and let thy widowsH490 trustH982 in me. 12For thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, they to whom it pertained not to drinkH8354 of the cupH3563 shall assuredly drinkH8354; and art thou he that shall altogether goH5352 unpunishedH5352? thou shalt not goH5352 unpunishedH5352, but thou shalt surely drinkH8354. 13For I have swornH7650 by myself, saith Jehovah, that BozrahH1224 shall becomeH1961 an astonishment, a reproachH2781, a wasteH2723, and a curseH7045; and all the citiesH5892 thereof shall beH1961 perpetual wastesH2723.
14I have heardH8085 tidings from Jehovah, and an ambassador is sentH7971 among the nationsH1471, saying, GatherH6908 yourselves togetherH6908, and comeH935 against her, and riseH6965 up to the battleH4421. 15For, behold, I have madeH5414 thee smallH6996 among the nationsH1471, and despisedH959 among menH120. 16As for thy terribleness, the prideH2087 of thy heartH3820 hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the cleftsH2288 of the rockH5553, that holdest the heightH4791 of the hillH1389: though thou shouldest make thy nestH7064 as highH4791 as the eagleH5404, I will bringH3381 thee downH3381 from thence, saith Jehovah. 17And EdomH123 shall becomeH1961 an astonishment: every one that passeth by it shall beH1961 astonished, and shall hissH8319 at all the plaguesH4347 thereof. 18As in the overthrowH4114 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 and the neighborH7934 cities thereof, saith Jehovah, no manH376 shall dwellH3427 there, neither shall any sonH1121 of manH376 sojourn therein. 19Behold, he shall comeH5927 up like a lionH738 from the prideH1347 of the JordanH3383 against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them runH7323 away from it; and whoso is chosenH977, him will I appointH6485 over it: for who is like me? and who will appointH6485 me a time? and who is the shepherdH7462 that will standH5975 before me?
20ThereforeH3651 hearH8085 ye the counselH6098 of Jehovah, that he hath taken against EdomH123; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitantsH3427 of TemanH8487: Surely they shall dragH5498 them away, even the little onesH6810 of the flockH6629; surely he shall makeH8074 their habitation desolateH8074 over them. 21The earthH776 trembleth at the noise of their fallH5307; there is a cryH6818, the noise whereof is heardH8085 in the Red SeaH3220. 22Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagleH5404, and spreadH6566 out his wingsH3671 against BozrahH1224: and the heartH3820 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 of EdomH123 at that dayH3117 shall beH1961 as the heartH3820 of a womanH802 in her pangs.
23Of DamascusH1834. HamathH2574 is confounded, and ArpadH774; for they have heardH8085 evilH7451 tidings, they are meltedH4127 awayH4127: there is sorrow on the seaH3220; it cannot be quietH8252. 24DamascusH1834 is waxed feeble, she turneth herself to fleeH5127, and trembling hath seizedH270 on her: anguish and sorrows have takenH270 holdH2388 of her, as of a woman in travail. 25HowH349 is the cityH5892 of praiseH8416 not forsaken, the cityH5892 of my joyH4885? 26ThereforeH3651 her youngH970 menH376 shall fallH5307 in her streets, and all the menH376 of warH4421 shall be brought to silence in that dayH3117, saith Jehovah of hostsH6635. 27And I will kindleH3341 a fireH784 in the wallH2346 of DamascusH1834, and it shall devourH398 the palaces of Ben-hadadH1130.
28Of KedarH6938, and of the kingdomsH4467 of HazorH2674, which Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 smote.
ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: AriseH6965 ye, goH5927 up to KedarH6938, and destroyH7703 the children of the eastH6924. 29Their tentsH168 and their flocksH6629 shall they takeH3947; they shall carryH5375 awayH5375 for themselves their curtainsH3407, and all their vesselsH3627, and their camelsH1581; and they shall cry unto them, TerrorH4032 on every side! 30FleeH5127 ye, wanderH5110 far off, dwellH3427 in the depths, O ye inhabitantsH3427 of HazorH2674, saith Jehovah; for Nebuchadrezzar kingH4428 of BabylonH894 hath taken counselH6098 against you, and hath conceived a purposeH6098 against you. 31AriseH6965, get you up unto a nationH1471 that is at easeH7961, that dwelleth without care, saith Jehovah; that have neither gates nor barsH1280, that dwellH3427 aloneH910. 32And their camelsH1581 shall beH1961 a bootyH7998, and the multitudeH1995 of their cattle a spoilH7998: and I will scatterH2219 unto all windsH7307 them that have the cornersH6285 of their hair cutH7112 off; and I will bringH935 their calamityH343 from every sideH6285 of them, saith Jehovah. 33And HazorH2674 shall beH1961 a dwelling-place of jackalsH8577, a desolationH8077 for everH5769: no manH376 shall dwellH3427 there, neither shall any sonH1121 of manH376 sojourn therein.
34The wordH1697 of Jehovah that came to JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 concerningH413 ElamH5867, in the beginning of the reignH4438 of ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, sayingH559, 35ThusH3541 saith Jehovah of hostsH6635: Behold, I will breakH7665 the bowH7198 of ElamH5867, the chief of their might. 36And upon ElamH5867 will I bringH935 the fourH702 windsH7307 from the fourH702 quarters of heavenH8064, and will scatterH2219 them toward all those windsH7307; and there shall beH1961 no nationH1471 whither the outcastsH5080 of ElamH5867 shall not comeH935. 37And I will cause ElamH5867 to be dismayedH2865 before their enemiesH341, and before them that seekH1245 their lifeH5315; and I will bringH935 evilH7451 upon them, even my fierce angerH639, saith Jehovah; and I will sendH7971 the swordH2719 after them, till I have consumed them: 38and I will setH7760 my throneH3678 in ElamH5867, and will destroyH6 from thence kingH4428 and princesH8269, saith Jehovah. 39But it shall come to pass in the latterH319 daysH3117, that I will bringH7725 backH7725 the captivityH7622 of ElamH5867, saith Jehovah.
