Jeremiah 18

1This is the wordH1697 thatH834 cameH1961 toH413 JeremiahH3414H854 from the LORDH3068H559: 2“Go downH3381 at onceH6965 to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004, and thereH8033 I will give youH8085 My messageH1697.”

3So I went downH3381 to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004 and saw himH2009 workingH6213H4399 atH5921 the wheelH70. 4But the vesselH3627 thatH834 heH1931 was shapingH6213 from the clayH2563 became flawedH7843 inH3335H7725 his handH3027; so he formedH6213 it into anotherH312 vesselH3627, asH834 it seemedH5869 bestH3474 for himH3335 to doH6213.

5Then the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 cameH1961 to meH413, sayingH559, 6“O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, declaresH5002 the LORDH3068, canH3201 I notH3808 treatH6213 you as thisH2088 potterH3335 treats his clay? JustH2009 like clayH2563 in the potter’sH3335 handH3027, soH3651 are youH859 in My handH3027, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478.

7At any timeH7281 I might announceH1696 thatH5921 a nationH1471H5921 or kingdomH4467 will be uprootedH5428, torn downH5422, and destroyedH6. 8But if thatH1931 nationH1471 I warnedH1696 turnsH7725 from its evilH7451, then I will relentH5162 ofH5921 the disasterH7451 I had plannedH2803 to bringH6213.

9And if at another timeH7281 I announceH1696H5921 that I will build upH1129 and establishH5193 a nationH1471H5921 or kingdomH4467, 10and if it doesH6213 evilH7451 in My sightH5869 and does notH1115 listenH8085 to My voiceH6963, then I will relentH5162 ofH5921 the goodH2896 I had intended for itH559H3190.

11NowH6258 thereforeH4994, tellH559H413 the menH376 of JudahH3063 andH5921 the residentsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 that this is whatH3541H559 the LORDH3068 saysH559: ‘BeholdH2009, IH595 am planningH3335 a disasterH7451 for youH5921 and devisingH2803 a planH4284 against youH5921. TurnH7725 nowH4994, each of youH376, from your evilH7451 waysH1870, and correctH3190 your waysH1870 and deedsH4611.’

12But they will replyH559, ‘It is hopelessH2976H3588. We will followH1980H310 our own plansH4284, and each of usH376 will actH6213 according to the stubbornnessH8307 of his evilH7451 heartH3820.’”

13ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559:

“InquireH7592H4994 among the nationsH1471:WhoH4310 has ever heardH8085 things like theseH428?VirginH1330 IsraelH3478 has doneH6213 a mostH3966 terrible thingH8186.14Does the snowH7950 of LebanonH3844ever leaveH5800 its rockyH6697 slopesH7704?OrH518 do its coolH7119 watersH4325 flowingH5140 from a distanceH2114ever run dryH5428?15YetH3588 My peopleH5971 have forgotten MeH7911.They burn incenseH6999 to worthless idolsH7723that make them stumbleH3782 in their waysH1870,leaving the ancientH5769 roadsH7635to walkH1980 on ruttedH5410 bypathsH1870instead ofH3808 on the highwayH5549.16They have madeH7760 their landH776 a desolationH8047,a perpetualH5769 object of scornH8322;allH3605 who passH5674 byH5921 will be appalledH8074and shakeH5110 their headsH7218.17I will scatter themH6327 beforeH6440 the enemyH341like the eastH6921 windH7307.I will show themH7200 My backH6203 and notH3808 My faceH6440in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343.”

Another Plot against Jeremiah

(Jeremiah 11:18–23)

18Then some saidH559, “ComeH1980, let us make plansH2803H4284 againstH5921 JeremiahH3414, forH3588 the lawH8451 will neverH3808 be lostH6 to the priestH3548, nor counselH6098 to the wiseH2450, nor an oracleH1697 to the prophetH5030. ComeH1980, let us denounce himH5221H3956 and pay noH408 heedH7181 toH413 anyH3605 of his wordsH1697.”

19AttendH7181 to meH413, O LORDH3068.HearH8085 what my accusersH3401 are sayingH6963!20Should goodH2896 be repaidH7999 withH8478 evilH7451?YetH3588 they have dugH3738 a pitH7745 for meH5315.RememberH2142 how I stoodH5975 before YouH6440to speakH1696 goodH2896 on their behalfH5921,to turnH7725 Your wrathH2534 from them.
21ThereforeH3651, hand their childrenH1121 overH5414 to famineH7458;pour outH5064 the powerH3027 of the swordH2719 upon themH5921.Let their wivesH802 becomeH1961 childlessH7909 and widowedH490;let their husbandsH582H1961 be slainH2026 by diseaseH4194,their young menH970 struck downH5221 by the swordH2719 in battleH4421.22Let a cryH2201 be heardH8085 from their housesH1004whenH3588 You suddenlyH6597 bringH935 raidersH1416 against themH5921,forH3588 they have dugH3738 a pitH7882 to capture meH3920and have hiddenH2934 snaresH6341 for my feetH7272.
23But YouH859, O LORDH3068, knowH3045 allH3605 their deadlyH4194 plotsH6098 against meH5921.Do notH408 wipe outH3722H5921 their guiltH5771or blot outH4229H1961 their sinH2403 from Your sightH6440.Let them be overthrownH3782 before YouH6440;dealH6213 with them in the timeH6256 of Your angerH639.
