Jeremiah 18
1The wordH1697 which came to JeremiahH3414 from Jehovah, sayingH559, 2AriseH6965, and goH3381 down to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004, and there I will cause thee to hearH8085 my wordsH1697. 3Then I wentH3381 downH3381 to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004, and, behold, he was makingH6213 a workH4399 on the wheels. 4And whenH834 the vesselH3627 that he madeH6213 of the clay was marred in the handH3027 of the potterH3335, he madeH6213 it again another vesselH3627, as seemed good to the potterH3335 to makeH6213 it.
5Then the wordH1697 of Jehovah came to me, sayingH559, 6O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, cannot I do with you as this potterH3335? saith Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter’sH3335 handH3027, soH3651 are ye in my handH3027, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478. 7At what instant I shall speakH1696 concerning a nationH1471, and concerning a kingdomH4467, to pluckH5428 up and to breakH5422 downH5422 and to destroyH6 it; 8if that nationH1471, concerning which I have spokenH1696, turnH7725 from their evilH7451, I will repent of the evilH7451 that I thought to do unto them. 9And at what instant I shall speakH1696 concerning a nationH1471, and concerning a kingdomH4467, to buildH1129 and to plantH5193 it; 10if they do that which is evilH7451 in my sight, that they obey not my voiceH6963, then I will repentH5162 of the goodH2896, wherewith I saidH559 I would benefit them. 11NowH6258 thereforeH6258, speak to the menH376 of JudahH3063, and to the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, sayingH559, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Behold, I frame evilH7451 against you, and devise a device against you: returnH7725 ye nowH6258 every oneH376 from his evilH7451 wayH1870, and amend your waysH1870 and your doings. 12But they sayH559, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every oneH376 after the stubbornnessH8307 of his evilH7451 heartH3820.
13ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: AskH7592 ye now among the nationsH1471, who hath heardH8085 such thingsH428; the virginH1330 of IsraelH3478 hath done a veryH3966 horrible thing. 14Shall the snowH7950 of LebanonH3844 fail from the rockH6697 of the fieldH7704? or shall the cold watersH4325 that flowH5140 down from afar be dried up? 15For my peopleH5971 have forgottenH7911 me, they have burned incenseH6999 to false gods; and they have been made to stumbleH3782 in their waysH1870, in the ancient paths, to walk in bypaths, in a wayH1870 not cast up; 16to makeH7760 their landH776 an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and shake his headH7218. 17I will scatterH6327 them as with an eastH6921 windH7307 before the enemyH341; I will showH7200 them the backH6203, and not the faceH6440, in the dayH3117 of their calamityH343.
18Then saidH559 they, Come, and let us devise devices against JeremiahH3414; for the lawH8451 shall not perishH6 from the priestH3548, nor counselH6098 from the wiseH2450, nor the wordH1697 from the prophetH5030. Come, and let us smite him with the tongueH3956, and let us not give heed to any of his wordsH1697.
19Give heed to me, O Jehovah, and hearken to the voiceH6963 of them that contend with me. 20Shall evilH7451 be recompensed for goodH2896? for they have digged a pitH7745 for my soulH5315. RememberH2142 how I stoodH5975 before thee to speakH1696 goodH2896 for them, to turnH7725 awayH7725 thy wrathH2534 from them. 21ThereforeH3651 deliver up their children to the famineH7458, and giveH5414 them over to the power of the swordH2719; and let their wivesH802 becomeH1961 childless, and widowsH490; and let their menH376 beH1961 slainH2026 of deathH4194, and their youngH1121 menH376 smitten of the swordH2719 in battleH4421. 22Let a cryH2201 be heardH8085 from their housesH1004, when thou shalt bringH935 a troopH1416 suddenlyH6597 upon them; for they have digged a pit to takeH3920 me, and hidH2934 snaresH6341 for my feetH7272. 23Yet, Jehovah, thou knowest all their counselH6098 against me to slay me; forgive not their iniquityH5771, neither blot out their sinH2403 from thy sight; but let them beH1961 overthrown before thee; deal thou with them in the timeH6256 of thine angerH639.
