Jeremiah 14

1This is the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 thatH834 cameH1961 toH413 JeremiahH3414 concerningH5921H1697 the droughtH1226:

2“JudahH3063 mournsH56and her gatesH8179 languishH535.Her people wailH6937 for the landH776,and a cryH6682 goes upH5927 from JerusalemH3389.3The noblesH117 sendH7971 their servantsH6810 for waterH4325;they goH935 toH5921 the cisternsH1356, but findH4672 noH3808 waterH4325;their jarsH3627 returnH7725 emptyH7387.They are ashamedH954 and humiliatedH3637;they coverH2645 their headsH7218.4The groundH127 is crackedH2865becauseH3588 noH3808H1961 rainH1653 has fallen on the landH776.The farmersH406 are ashamedH954;they coverH2645 their headsH7218.5EvenH3588H1571 the doeH355 in the fieldH7704 desertsH5800 her newborn fawnH3205becauseH3588 there isH1961 noH3808 grassH1877.6Wild donkeysH6501 standH5975 onH5921 barren heightsH8205;they pantH7602 for airH7307 like jackalsH8577;1their eyesH5869 failH3615 forH3588 lackH369 of pastureH6212.”
7AlthoughH518 our iniquitiesH5771 testifyH6030 against us, O LORDH3068,actH6213 for the sakeH4616 of Your nameH8034.IndeedH3588, our rebellionsH4878 are manyH7231;we have sinned against YouH2398.8O HopeH4723 of IsraelH3478,its SaviorH3467 in timesH6256 of distressH6869,whyH4100 are YouH1961 like a strangerH1616 in the landH776,like a travelerH732 who stays but a nightH5186H3885?9WhyH4100 are YouH1961 like a manH376 taken by surpriseH1724,like a warriorH1368 powerlessH3201 to saveH3467?Yet YouH859 are among usH7130, O LORDH3068,and we are calledH7121 by Your nameH8034H5921.
Do notH408 forsake usH5117!

10This is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 about thisH2088 peopleH5971:

“TrulyH3651 they loveH157 to wanderH5128;they have notH3808 restrainedH2820 their feetH7272.So the LORDH3068 does notH3808 accept themH7521;He will nowH6258 rememberH2142 their iniquityH5771and punish themH6485 for their sinsH2403.”

11Then the LORDH3068 saidH559 to meH413, “Do notH408 prayH6419 forH1157 the well-beingH2896 of thisH2088 peopleH5971. 12AlthoughH3588 they may fastH6684, I will notH369 listen toH8085H413 their cryH7440; althoughH3588 they may offerH5927 burnt offeringsH5930 and grain offeringsH4503, I will notH369 accept themH7521. InsteadH3588, IH595 will finish them offH3615 by swordH2719 and famineH7458 and plagueH1698.”

13“AhH162, LordH136 GODH3069!” I repliedH559, “LookH2009, the prophetsH5030 are tellingH559 them, ‘You will notH3808 seeH7200 the swordH2719 or sufferH1961 famineH7458H3808, butH3588 I will giveH5414 you lastingH571 peaceH7965 in thisH2088 placeH4725.’”

14“The prophetsH5030 are prophesyingH5012 liesH8267 in My nameH8034,” repliedH559 the LORDH3068. “I did notH3808 send themH7971 or appoint themH6680 or speakH1696 to themH413. TheyH1992 are prophesyingH5012 to you a falseH8267 visionH2377, a worthless divinationH7081, the futilityH434 and delusionH8649 of their own mindsH3820.

15ThereforeH3651 this is whatH3541 the LORDH3068 saysH559 aboutH5921 the prophetsH5030 who prophesyH5012 in My nameH8034: IH589 did notH3808 send themH7971, yet theyH1992 sayH559, ‘NoH3808 swordH2719 or famineH7458 will touchH1961 thisH2063 landH776.’

By swordH2719 and famineH7458 these veryH1992 prophetsH5030 will meet their endH8552! 16And the peopleH5971 to whomH834 theyH1992 prophesyH5012 will beH1961 thrownH7993 into the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389 because ofH6440 famineH7458 and swordH2719. There will be noH369 one to buryH6912 them or theirH1992 wivesH802, their sonsH1121 or their daughtersH1323. I will pour outH8210 their own evilH7451 upon themH5921.

17You are to speakH559 thisH2088 wordH1697 to themH413:

‘My eyesH5869 overflowH3381 with tearsH1832;dayH3119 and nightH3915 they do notH408 ceaseH1820,forH3588 the virginH1330 daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971has been shatteredH7667 by a crushingH1419 blowH7665,a severelyH3966 grievousH2470 woundH4347.

A Prayer for Mercy

(Isaiah 63:15–19)

18IfH518 I go outH3318 to the countryH7704, I seeH2009 those slainH2491 by the swordH2719; ifH518 I enterH935 the cityH5892, I seeH2009 those ravagedH8463 by famineH7458! ForH3588 bothH1571 prophetH5030 andH1571 priestH3548 travelH5503 toH413 a landH776 they do notH3808 knowH3045.’”

19Have You rejectedH3988 JudahH3063 completelyH3988H518?Do YouH5315 despiseH1602 ZionH6726?WhyH4069 have You stricken usH5221so that we are beyondH369 healingH4832?We hopedH6960 for peaceH7965,but noH369 good has comeH2896,and for the timeH6256 of healingH4832,but thereH2009 was only terrorH1205.20We acknowledgeH3045 our wickednessH7562, O LORDH3068,the guiltH5771 of our fathersH1;indeedH3588, we have sinnedH2398 against You.
21For the sake ofH4616 Your nameH8034 do notH408 despise usH5006;do notH408 disgraceH5034 Your gloriousH3519 throneH3678.RememberH2142 Your covenantH1285 with usH854;do notH408 break itH6565.22CanH3426 the worthless idolsH1892 of the nationsH1471 bring rainH1652?Do the skies aloneH8064 sendH5414 showersH7241?Is this notH3808 by YouH859H1931, O LORDH3068 our GodH430?So we put our hopeH6960 in You,forH3588 YouH859 have doneH6213 allH3605 these thingsH428.
