Jeremiah 14

1The wordH1697 of Jehovah that came to JeremiahH3414 concerning the drought.

2JudahH3063 mourneth, and the gatesH8179 thereof languishH535, they sit in black upon the groundH776; and the cry of JerusalemH3389 is goneH5927 up. 3And their noblesH117 sendH7971 their little onesH6810 to the watersH4325: they comeH935 to the cisterns, and findH4672 no waterH4325; they returnH7725 with their vesselsH3627 emptyH7387; they are putH954 to shameH954 and confounded, and coverH2645 their headsH7218. 4Because of the groundH776 which is cracked, for that no rainH1653 hath beenH1961 in the landH776, the plowmen are putH954 to shameH954, they coverH2645 their headsH7218. 5Yea, the hind alsoH1571 in the fieldH7704 calveth, and forsaketh her young, because there is no grassH1877. 6And the wildH6501 asses standH5975 on the bareH8205 heightsH8205, they pant for air like jackalsH8577; their eyesH5869 failH3615, because there is no herbage.

7Though our iniquitiesH5771 testifyH6030 against us, work thou for thy name’sH8034 sakeH4616, O Jehovah; for our backslidings are manyH7231; we have sinnedH2398 against thee. 8O thou hope of IsraelH3478, the Saviour thereof in the timeH6256 of troubleH6869, whyH4100 shouldest thou beH1961 as a sojournerH1616 in the landH776, and as a wayfaring man that turneth asideH5186 to tarry for a night? 9WhyH4100 shouldest thou beH1961 as a manH376 affrighted, as a mightyH1368 manH376 that cannot saveH3467? Yet thou, O Jehovah, art in the midstH7130 of us, and we are calledH7121 by thy nameH8034; leave us not.

10ThusH3541 saith Jehovah unto this peopleH5971, Even soH3651 have they lovedH157 to wanderH5128; they have not refrained their feetH7272: thereforeH3651 Jehovah doth not acceptH7521 them; nowH6258 will he rememberH2142 their iniquityH5771, and visitH6485 their sinsH2403. 11And Jehovah saidH559 unto me, PrayH6419 not for this peopleH5971 for their goodH2896. 12When they fastH6684, I will not hearH8085 their cryH7440; and when they offerH5927 burnt-offering and meal-offering, I will not acceptH7521 them; but I will consume them by the swordH2719, and by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698.

13Then saidH559 I, Ah, LordH136 Jehovah! behold, the prophetsH5030 sayH559 unto them, Ye shall not seeH7200 the swordH2719, neither shall ye have famineH7458; but I will giveH5414 you assured peaceH7965 in this placeH4725. 14Then Jehovah saidH559 unto me, The prophetsH5030 prophesyH5012 liesH8267 in my nameH8034; I sentH7971 them not, neither have I commandedH6680 them, neither spake I unto them: they prophesyH5012 unto you a lyingH8267 visionH2377, and divinationH7081, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their own heartH3820. 15ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah concerning the prophetsH5030 that prophesyH5012 in my nameH8034, and I sentH7971 them not, yet they sayH559, SwordH2719 and famineH7458 shall not beH1961 in this landH776: By swordH2719 and famineH7458 shall those prophetsH5030 beH1961 consumed. 16And the peopleH5971 to whom they prophesyH5012 shall beH1961 castH7993 out in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389 because of the famineH7458 and the swordH2719; and they shall have none to buryH6912 them—them, their wivesH802, nor their sonsH1121, nor their daughtersH1323: for I will pourH8210 their wickednessH7451 upon them. 17And thou shalt sayH559 this wordH1697 unto them, Let mine eyesH5869 run down with tearsH1832 nightH3915 and dayH3119, and let them not ceaseH1820; for the virginH1330 daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971 is brokenH7665 with a greatH1419 breach, with a veryH3966 grievous woundH4347. 18If I goH3318 forthH3318 into the fieldH7704, then, behold, the slainH2491 with the swordH2719! and if I enter into the cityH5892, then, behold, they that are sick with famineH7458! for both the prophetH5030 and the priestH3548 goH3318 about in the landH776, and have no knowledge.

19Hast thou utterly rejectedH3988 JudahH3063? hath thy soulH5315 loathed ZionH6726? whyH4069 hast thou smitten us, and there is no healingH4832 for us? We looked for peaceH7965, but no goodH2896 came; and for a timeH6256 of healingH4832, and, behold, dismay! 20We acknowledge, O Jehovah, our wickednessH7562, and the iniquityH5771 of our fathersH1; for we have sinnedH2398 against thee. 21Do not abhor us, for thy name’sH8034 sakeH4616; do not disgrace the throneH3678 of thy gloryH3519: rememberH2142, breakH6565 not thy covenantH1285 with us. 22Are there any among the vanitiesH1892 of the nationsH1471 that can cause rain? or can the heavensH8064 giveH5414 showersH7241? art not thou he, O Jehovah our GodH430? therefore we will waitH6960 for thee; for thou hast madeH6213 all these thingsH428.
