Hebrews 11
Darby Bible
1NowG1161 faithG4102 isG1510 [the] substantiating of thingsG4229 hopedG1679 for, [the] conviction of thingsG4229 not seenG991. 2For in [the power of] this the eldersG4245 have obtained testimony. 3By faithG4102 we apprehend that the worlds were framed by [the] word of 1GodG2316, so that that which is seenG991 should not take its origin from things which appearG5316. 4By faithG4102 AbelG6 offeredG4374 to 2GodG2316 a moreG4183 excellent sacrificeG2378 than CainG2535, by which he obtained testimony of beingG1510 righteousG1342, 3GodG2316 bearing testimony to his giftsG1435, and by it, having diedG599, he yet speaksG2980. 5By faithG4102 EnochG1802 was translated that he should not seeG3708 deathG2288; and was not foundG2147, because 4GodG2316 had translated him; for before [his] translation he has the testimony that he had pleased 5GodG2316. 6But without faithG4102 [it isG1510] impossibleG102 to please [him]. For he that draws near to 6GodG2316 must believeG4100 that he isG1510, and [that] he isG1510 a rewarder of them who seek him out. 7By faithG4102, NoahG3575, oracularly warnedG5537 concerningG4012 thingsG3739 not yet seenG991, moved with fear, preparedG2680 an arkG2787 for the saving of his houseG3624; by which he condemnedG2632 the worldG2889, and becameG1096 heirG2818 of the righteousnessG1343 which [is] accordingG2596 to faithG4102. 8By faithG4102 AbrahamG11, being calledG2564, obeyedG5219 to goG1831 out into the placeG5117 which he was to receiveG2983 for an inheritanceG2817, and wentG1831 out, not knowingG1987 whereG4226 he was going. 9By faithG4102 he sojourned as a strangerG245 in the landG1093 of promiseG1860 as a foreign country, having dwelt in tents with IsaacG2464 and JacobG2384, the heirs with [him] of the sameG846 promiseG1860; 10for he waited for the cityG4172 which has foundationsG2310, of which 7GodG2316 is [the] artificer and constructor. 11By faithG4102 alsoG2532 SarahG4564 herself receivedG2983 strength for [the] conception of seedG4690, and [that] beyond a seasonable age; since she counted him faithfulG4103 who promisedG1861. 12Wherefore alsoG2532 there have been bornG1080 of oneG1520, and that of oneG1520 become dead, evenG2532 as the starsG798 of heavenG3772 in multitudeG4128, and as the countless sandG285 which [is] by the seaG2281 shore. 13All these diedG599 in faithG4102, not having receivedG2983 the promisesG1860, but having seenG3708 them from afar off and embraced [them], and confessedG3670 that they wereG1510 strangersG3581 and sojourners on the earthG1093. 14For they who sayG3004 suchG5108 thingsG5108 shew clearly that they seekG1934 [their] country. 15And if they had called to mind that from whence they went out, they had had opportunityG2540 to have returned; 16but nowG1161 they seek a better, that isG1510, a heavenlyG2032; wherefore 8GodG2316 isG1510 not ashamedG1870 of them, to beG1510 calledG1941 their 9GodG2316; for he has preparedG2090 for them a cityG4172. 17By faithG4102 AbrahamG11, [when] tried, offeredG4374 up IsaacG2464, and he who had received to himself the promisesG1860 offeredG4374 up his onlyG3439 begottenG3439 [son], 18as to whom it had been saidG2980, In IsaacG2464 shall thy seedG4690 be calledG2564: 19counting that 10GodG2316 [was] ableG1415 to raiseG1453 [him] evenG2532 from among [the] deadG3498, whence alsoG2532 he receivedG2865 him in a figure. 20By faithG4102 IsaacG2464 blessedG2127 JacobG2384 and EsauG2269 concerningG4012 thingsG3195 to comeG3195. 21By faithG4102 JacobG2384 [when] dyingG599 blessedG2127 each of the sonsG5207 of JosephG2501, and worshipped on the top of his staffG4464. 22By faithG4102 JosephG2501 [when] dying called to mind the going forth of the sonsG5207 of IsraelG2474, and gaveG1781 commandment concerningG4012 his bones. 23By faithG4102 MosesG3475, being bornG1080, was hidG2928 three months by his parents, because they sawG3708 the childG3813 beautifulG791; and they did not fearG5399 the injunction of the kingG935. 24By faithG4102 MosesG3475, whenG1096 he had becomeG1096 greatG3173, refused to be called sonG5207 of Pharaoh's daughterG2364; 25choosing ratherG3123 to suffer affliction along with the peopleG2992 of 11GodG2316 than to have [the] temporaryG4340 pleasure of sinG266; 26esteeming the reproachG3680 of the ChristG5547 greaterG3173 richesG4149 than the treasuresG2344 of EgyptG125, for he had respect to the recompense. 27By faithG4102 he leftG2641 EgyptG125, not fearingG5399 the wrathG2372 of the kingG935; for he persevered, as seeingG3708 him who is invisibleG517. 28By faithG4102 he celebrated the passoverG3957 and the sprinkling of the bloodG129, that the destroyer of the firstbornG4416 might not touchG2345 them. 29By faithG4102 they passed through the RedG2063 seaG2281 as through dryG3584 landG1093; of which the EgyptiansG124 having made trial were swallowedG2666 up. 30By faithG4102 the wallsG5038 of JerichoG2410 fellG4098, having been encircled for sevenG2033 daysG2250. 31By faithG4102 RahabG4460 the harlot did not perish along with the unbelieving, having receivedG1209 the spies in peaceG1515. 32And what moreG2089 do I sayG3004? For the timeG5550 would fail me tellingG3004 of Gideon, and Barak, and Samson, and Jephthah, and DavidG1138 and SamuelG4545, and of the prophetsG4396: 33who by faithG4102 overcame kingdomsG932, wrought righteousnessG1343, obtainedG2013 promisesG1860, stopped lions' mouthsG4750, 34quenchedG4570 [the] powerG1411 of fireG4442, escaped [the] edge of the swordG3162, becameG1096 strongG2478 out of weaknessG769, becameG1096 mightyG2478 in warG4171, made [the] armies of strangersG245 give way. 35WomenG1135 receivedG2983 their deadG3498 again by resurrectionG386; and othersG243 were tortured, not having acceptedG4327 deliverance, that they might get a better resurrectionG386; 36and othersG2087 underwent trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, and of bonds and imprisonment. 37They were stonedG3034, were sawn asunder, were temptedG3985, diedG599 by the death of the swordG3162; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, destitute, afflicted, evil treated, 38(of whom the worldG2889 wasG1510 not worthyG514,) wandering in deserts and mountainsG3735, and [in] dens and caverns of the earthG1093. 39And these all, having obtained witnessG3140 through faithG4102, did not receiveG2865 the promiseG1860, 4012GodG2316 having foreseen some better thing for us, that they should not be madeG5048 perfectG5048 without us.
