Hebrews 12

Darby Bible

1Let us alsoG2532 therefore, having so great a cloud of witnessesG3144 surrounding us, laying asideG659 every weight, and sinG266 which so easily entangles us, runG5143 with enduranceG5281 the race that lies before us, 2looking stedfastly on JesusG2424 the leader and completer of faithG4102: who, in view of the joyG5479 lying before him, enduredG5278 [the] crossG4716, having despised [the] shameG152, and is setG4295 downG2523 at the rightG1188 handG1188 of the throneG2362 of 1GodG2316. 3For consider well him who enduredG5278 soG2443 great contradiction from sinnersG268 against himself, that ye be not weary, fainting in your mindsG5590. 4Ye have not yetG3768 resisted unto bloodG129, wrestling against sinG266. 5And ye have quite forgotten the exhortationG3874 which speaks to you as to sonsG5207: My sonG5207, despise not [the] chastening of [the] LordG2962, nor faintG1590 [whenG5613] reproved by him; 6for whom [the] LordG2962 lovesG25 he chastens, and scourges every sonG5207 whom he receivesG3858. 7Ye endureG5278 for chastening, 2GodG2316 conducts himself towards you as towards sonsG5207; for who is the sonG5207 that the fatherG3962 chastens not? 8But if ye areG1510 without chastening, of which all have beenG1510 made partakersG3353, then areG1510 ye bastards, and not sonsG5207. 9Moreover we have had the fathersG3962 of our fleshG4561 as chasteners, and we reverenced [them]; shall we not muchG4183 ratherG3123 be in subjectionG5293 to the FatherG3962 of spiritsG4151, and liveG2198? 10For they indeedG1063 chastened for a fewG3641 daysG2250, as seemedG1380 goodG1380 to them; but he for profit, in order to the partaking of his holiness. 11But no chastening at the time seemsG1380 to beG1510 [matter] of joyG5479, but of griefG3077; but afterwards yields [the] peaceful fruitG2590 of righteousnessG1343 to those exercised by it. 12Wherefore lift up the handsG5495 that hang down, and the failing kneesG1119; 13and makeG4160 straight paths for your feetG4228, that that which is lameG5560 be not turnedG1624 asideG1624; but that ratherG3123 it may be healedG2390. 14PursueG1377 peaceG1515 with all, and holinessG38, without which no oneG3762 shall seeG3708 the LordG2962: 15watching lestG3361 [there be] any oneG5100 who lacks the graceG5485 of 3GodG2316; lestG3361 any rootG4491 of bitternessG4088 springing up trouble [you], and manyG4183 be defiled by it; 16lestG3361 [there be] any fornicator, or profaneG952 person, as EsauG2269, who for oneG1520 meal sold his birthright; 17for ye know that alsoG2532 afterwards, desiringG2309 to inheritG2816 the blessingG2129, he was rejectedG593, (for he foundG2147 no placeG5117 for repentanceG3341) although he sought it earnestly with tearsG1144. 18For ye have not comeG4334 to [the mount] that might be touchedG5584 and was all on fireG4442, and to obscurity, and darknessG2217, and tempest, 19and trumpet's soundG5456, and voiceG5456 of wordsG3056; which they that heardG191, excusing themselves, declined [the] wordG3056 being addressed to them any more: 20(for they were not able to bearG5342 what was enjoined: And if a beastG2342 should touchG2345 the mountainG3735, it shall be stoned; 21and, so fearfulG5398 wasG1510 the sight, MosesG3475 saidG3004, I amG1510 exceedingly afraid and full of trembling;) 22but ye have comeG4334 to mountG3735 ZionG4622; and to [the] cityG4172 of [the] livingG2198 4GodG2316, heavenlyG2032 JerusalemG2419; and to myriadsG3461 of angelsG32, 23the universal gathering; and to [the] assemblyG1577 of the firstbornG4416 [who are] registered in heavenG3772; and to 5GodG2316, judgeG2923 of all; and to [the] spiritsG4151 of justG1342 [men] madeG5048 perfectG5048; 24and to JesusG2424, mediatorG3316 of a newG3501 covenantG1242; and to [the] bloodG129 of sprinkling, speakingG2980 better than AbelG6. 25SeeG991 that ye refuseG3868 not him that speaksG2980. For if those did not escapeG1628 who had refused him who uttered the oracles on earthG1093, muchG4183 moreG3123 we who turnG654 awayG654 from him [who does so] from heavenG3772: 26whose voiceG5456 then shook the earthG1093; but nowG1161 he has promisedG1861, sayingG3004, Yet onceG530 will I shake not onlyG3440 the earthG1093, but alsoG2532 the heavenG3772. 27But this Yet onceG530, signifies the removing of what is shakenG4531, as being madeG4160, that what is not shakenG4531 may remainG3306. 28Wherefore let us, receiving a kingdomG932 not to be shaken, have graceG5485, by which let us serveG3000 6GodG2316 acceptably with reverenceG2124 and fear. 29For alsoG2532 our 7GodG2316 [is] a consuming fireG4442.
