Acts 8
1And SaulG4569 wasG1510 consenting unto his death.
And there aroseG1096 on that dayG2250 a greatG3173 persecutionG1375 against the churchG1577 which wasG1510 in JerusalemG2414; and they wereG1510 all scatteredG1289 abroad throughout the regionsG5561 of Judæa and SamariaG4540, except the apostlesG652. 2And devoutG2126 menG435 buried StephenG4736, and madeG4160 greatG3173 lamentation over him. 3But SaulG4569 laid waste the churchG1577, enteringG1531 into every houseG3624, and dragging menG435 and womenG1135 committed them to prisonG5438.
4They thereforeG3767 that were scatteredG1289 abroad wentG1330 about preaching the wordG3056. 5And PhilipG5376 went downG2718 to the cityG4172 of SamariaG4540, and proclaimedG2784 unto them the ChristG5547. 6And the multitudesG3793 gave heedG991 with oneG3739 accordG3661 unto the thingsG3739 that were spoken by PhilipG5376, when they heardG191, and sawG991 the signsG4592 which he did. 7For from manyG4183 of those that had uncleanG169 spiritsG4151, they cameG1831 out, cryingG994 with a loudG3173 voiceG5456: and manyG4183 that were palsied, and that were lameG5560, were healedG2323. 8And there was muchG4183 joyG5479 in that cityG4172.
9But there wasG1510 a certainG5100 manG435, SimonG4613 by nameG3686, who beforetime in the cityG4172 used sorcery, and amazed the peopleG1484 of SamariaG4540, giving out that himself wasG1510 some greatG3173 oneG5100: 10to whom they all gave heed, from the leastG3398 to the greatestG3173, sayingG3004, This manG3778 isG1510 that powerG1411 of GodG2316 which isG1510 calledG2564 GreatG3173. 11And they gave heed to him, because that of long timeG5550 he had amazed them with his sorceries. 12But whenG3753 they believedG4100 PhilipG5376 preaching good tidings concerningG4012 the kingdomG932 of GodG2316 and the nameG3686 of JesusG2424 ChristG5547, they were baptizedG907, both menG435 and womenG1135. 13And SimonG4613 alsoG2532 himself believedG4100: and beingG1510 baptizedG907, he continuedG4342 with PhilipG5376; and beholding signsG4592 and greatG3173 miracles wrought, he wasG1510 amazed.
14NowG1161 when the apostlesG652 that were at JerusalemG2414 heardG191 that SamariaG4540 had receivedG1209 the wordG3056 of GodG2316, they sentG649 unto them PeterG4074 and JohnG2491: 15who, when they were comeG2597 down, prayedG4336 for them, that they might receiveG2983 the HolyG40 SpiritG4151: 16for as yet it wasG1510 fallen upon noneG3762 of them: onlyG3440 they had beenG1510 baptizedG907 into the nameG3686 of the LordG2962 JesusG2424. 17Then laidG2007 they their handsG5495 on them, and they receivedG2983 the HolyG40 SpiritG4151. 18NowG1161 when SimonG4613 sawG3708 that through the layingG1936 on of the apostles’G652 handsG5495 the Holy SpiritG4151 was givenG1325, he offeredG4374 them moneyG5536, 19sayingG3004, GiveG1325 me also this powerG1849, that on whomsoever I lay my handsG5495, he may receiveG2983 the HolyG40 SpiritG4151. 20But PeterG4074 saidG3004 unto him, Thy silverG694 perish with thee, because thou hast thoughtG3543 to obtain the giftG1431 of GodG2316 with moneyG694. 21Thou hast neither partG3310 nor lotG2819 in this matterG3056: for thy heartG2588 isG1510 not right before GodG2316. 22RepentG3340 thereforeG3767 of this thy wickednessG2549, and prayG1189 the LordG2962, if perhapsG686 the thought of thy heartG2588 shall be forgivenG863 thee. 23For I seeG3708 that thou art in the gallG5521 of bitternessG4088 and in the bondG4886 of iniquityG93. 24And SimonG4613 answeredG611 and saidG3004, PrayG1189 ye for me to the LordG2962, that none of the thingsG3739 which ye have spoken comeG1904 upon me.
25They thereforeG3767, when they had testifiedG1263 and spokenG2980 the wordG3056 of the LordG2962, returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2414, and preached the gospel to manyG4183 villagesG2968 of the SamaritansG4541.
26But an angelG32 of the LordG2962 spake unto PhilipG5376, sayingG3004, AriseG450, and goG4198 toward the south unto the wayG3598 that goeth downG2597 from JerusalemG2419 unto Gaza: the same isG1510 desert. 27And he aroseG450 and went: and beholdG2400, a manG435 of Ethiopia, a eunuchG2135 of great authority under Candace, queenG938 of the Ethiopians, who wasG1510 over all her treasure, who had comeG2064 to JerusalemG2419 to worshipG4352; 28and he wasG1510 returningG5290 and sittingG2521 in his chariotG716, and wasG1510 readingG314 the prophetG4396 IsaiahG2268. 29And the SpiritG4151 saidG3004 unto PhilipG5376, Go near, and joinG2853 thyself to this chariotG716. 30And PhilipG5376 ranG4370 to him, and heardG191 him readingG314 IsaiahG2268 the prophetG4396, and saidG3004, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31And he saidG3004, HowG4459 can I, except some oneG5100 shall guide me? And he besought PhilipG5376 to comeG305 up and sitG2523 with him. 32NowG1161 the passage of the scriptureG1124 which he wasG1510 readingG314 wasG1510 this,
34And the eunuchG2135 answeredG611 PhilipG5376, and saidG3004, I prayG1189 thee, of whom speaketh the prophetG4396 this? of himself, or of some otherG2087? 35And PhilipG5376 openedG455 his mouthG4750, and beginningG757 from this scriptureG1124, preached unto him JesusG2424. 36And as they went on the wayG3598, they cameG2064 unto a certainG5100 waterG5204; and the eunuchG2135 saith, BeholdG2400, here is waterG5204; what doth hinderG2967 me to be baptizedG907? 371 38And he commandedG2753 the chariotG716 to standG2476 still: and they both wentG2597 downG2597 into the waterG5204, both PhilipG5376 and the eunuchG2135; and he baptizedG907 him. 39And whenG3753 they cameG305 up out of the waterG5204, the SpiritG4151 of the LordG2962 caught awayG726 PhilipG5376; and the eunuchG2135 sawG3708 him no more, for he wentG4198 on his wayG3598 rejoicingG5463. 40But PhilipG5376 was foundG2147 at Azotus: and passingG1330 through he preached the gospel to all the citiesG4172, till he cameG2064 to Cæsarea.
