Acts 16
American Standard Version
1And he cameG2658 alsoG2532 to DerbeG1191 and to LystraG3082: and beholdG2400, a certainG5100 discipleG3101 wasG1510 there, namedG3686 TimothyG5095, the sonG5207 of a Jewess that believed; but his fatherG3962 wasG1510 a GreekG1672. 2The same was well reported of by the brethren that were at LystraG3082 and IconiumG2430. 3Him would PaulG3972 have to goG1831 forthG1831 with him; and he tookG2983 and circumcisedG4059 him because of the JewsG2453 that wereG1510 in those parts: for they all knew that his fatherG3962 wasG1510 a GreekG1672. 4And as they went on their way through the citiesG4172, they deliveredG3860 them the decrees to keepG5442 which had been ordained of the apostlesG652 and eldersG4245 that were at JerusalemG2414. 5So the churchesG1577 were strengthenedG4732 in the faithG4102, and increased in numberG706 daily.
6And they wentG1330 through the regionG5561 of PhrygiaG5435 and Galatia, having been forbidden of the HolyG40 SpiritG4151 to speakG2980 the wordG3056 in AsiaG773; 7and when they were comeG2064 over against MysiaG3465, they assayed to goG4198 into BithyniaG978; and the SpiritG4151 of JesusG2424 suffered them not; 8and passingG3928 by MysiaG3465, they cameG2597 downG2597 to TroasG5174. 9And a visionG3705 appeared to PaulG3972 in the nightG3571: There wasG1510 a manG435 of MacedoniaG3109 standingG2476, beseechingG3870 him, and sayingG3004, Come over into MacedoniaG3109, and helpG997 us. 10And whenG5613 he had seenG3708 the visionG3705, straightway we soughtG2212 to goG1831 forthG1831 into MacedoniaG3109, concluding that GodG2316 had calledG4341 us to preach the gospel unto them.
11SettingG321 sailG321 thereforeG3767 from TroasG5174, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis; 12and from thence to PhilippiG5375, which isG1510 a cityG4172 of MacedoniaG3109, the firstG4413 of the district, a Roman colony: and we wereG1510 in this cityG4172 tarrying certainG5100 daysG2250. 13And on the sabbathG4521 dayG2250 we wentG1831 forthG1831 without the gateG4439 by a riverG4215 side, whereG3757 we supposed there wasG1510 a place of prayerG4335; and we satG2523 downG2523, and spake unto the womenG1135 that wereG1510 comeG1831 togetherG4905. 14And a certainG5100 womanG1135 namedG3686 LydiaG3070, a seller of purple, of the cityG4172 of ThyatiraG2363, oneG5100 that worshipped GodG2316, heardG191 us: whose heartG2588 the LordG2962 openedG1272 to give heed unto the thingsG3739 which were spokenG2980 by PaulG3972. 15And whenG5613 she wasG1510 baptizedG907, and her householdG3624, she besought us, sayingG3004, If ye have judgedG2919 me to beG1510 faithfulG4103 to the LordG2962, comeG1525 into my houseG3624, and abideG3306 there. And she constrained us.
16And it cameG1096 to passG1096, as we were goingG4198 to the placeG1096 of prayerG4335, that a certainG5100 maid having a spiritG4151 of divination met us, who broughtG3930 her mastersG2962 muchG4183 gain by soothsaying. 17The same following after PaulG3972 and us criedG2896 out, sayingG3004, These menG444 areG1510 servantsG1401 of the MostG5310 HighG5310 GodG2316, who proclaimG2605 unto you the wayG3598 of salvationG4991. 18And this she did for manyG4183 daysG2250. But PaulG3972, being sore troubled, turnedG1994 and saidG3004 to the spiritG4151, I chargeG3853 thee in the nameG3686 of JesusG2424 ChristG5547 to comeG1831 out of her. And it cameG1831 out that very hourG5610.
19But when her mastersG2962 sawG3708 that the hopeG1680 of their gain was goneG1831, they laid holdG1949 on PaulG3972 and SilasG4609, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulersG758, 20and when they had broughtG4317 them unto the magistrates, they saidG3004, These menG444, being JewsG2453, do exceedingly trouble our cityG4172, 21and set forth customsG1485 which it isG1510 not lawfulG1832 for us to receiveG3858, or to observe, beingG1510 RomansG4514. 22And the multitudeG3793 rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garmentsG2440 off them, and commandedG2753 to beat them with rodsG4463. 23And when they had laidG2007 manyG4183 stripes upon them, they castG906 them into prisonG5438, charging the jailor to keepG5083 them safely: 24who, having receivedG2983 such a chargeG3852, castG906 them into the inner prisonG5438, and made their feetG4228 fast in the stocks. 25But about midnightG3317 PaulG3972 and SilasG4609 were prayingG4336 and singing hymnsG5214 unto GodG2316, and the prisonersG1198 were listening to them; 26and suddenlyG869 there was a greatG3173 earthquakeG4578, so that the foundationsG2310 of the prison-house were shakenG4531: and immediatelyG3916 all the doorsG2374 were openedG455; and every one’s bands were loosed. 27And the jailor, being roused out of sleep and seeingG3708 the prisonG5438 doorsG2374 openG455, drew his swordG3162 and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisonersG1198 had escapedG1628. 28But PaulG3972 cried with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, sayingG3004, Do thyself no harmG2556: for we areG1510 all hereG1759. 29And he called for lightsG5457 and sprang in, and, trembling for fear, fell downG4363 before PaulG3972 and SilasG4609, 30and broughtG4254 them out and saidG5346, SirsG2962, what must I do to be savedG4982? 31And they saidG3004, BelieveG4100 on the LordG2962 JesusG2424, and thou shalt be savedG4982, thou and thy houseG3624. 32And they spake the wordG3056 of the LordG2962 unto him, with all that were in his houseG3614. 33And he tookG3880 them the sameG846 hourG5610 of the nightG3571, and washedG3068 their stripes; and was baptizedG907, he and all his, immediatelyG3916. 34And he broughtG321 them up into his houseG3624, and setG321 food before them, and rejoicedG21 greatly, with all his houseG3624, having believedG4100 in GodG2316.
35But when it was dayG2250, the magistrates sentG649 the serjeants, sayingG3004, Let those menG444 goG630. 36And the jailor reportedG518 the wordsG3056 to PaulG3972, sayingG3056, The magistrates have sentG649 to let you goG4198: nowG1161 thereforeG3767 comeG1831 forthG1831, and goG4198 in peaceG1515. 37But PaulG3972 saidG5346 unto them, They have beatenG1194 us publiclyG1219, uncondemnedG178, menG444 that are RomansG4514, and have castG906 us into prisonG5438; and do they nowG1161 castG906 us out privily? nay verily; but let them comeG2064 themselves and bringG906 us out. 38And the serjeants reportedG518 these words unto the magistrates: and they fearedG5399 when they heardG191 that they wereG1510 RomansG4514; 39and they cameG2064 and besought them; and when they had brought them out, they askedG2065 them to goG565 awayG565 from the cityG4172. 40And they wentG1831 out of the prisonG5438, and enteredG1525 into the house of LydiaG3070: and when they had seenG3708 the brethren, they comfortedG3870 them, and departedG1831.
