Acts 22
1Brethren and fathersG3962, hearG191 ye the defence which I now make unto you.
2And when they heardG191 that he spake unto them in the HebrewG1446 languageG1258, they were the moreG3123 quiet: and he saith,
3I amG1510 a JewG2453, bornG1080 in TarsusG5019 of CiliciaG2791, but brought up in this cityG4172, at the feetG4228 of GamalielG1059, instructed accordingG2596 to the strict manner of the lawG3551 of our fathersG3971, beingG1510 zealousG2207 for GodG2316, even as ye all areG1510 this dayG4594: 4and I persecutedG1377 this WayG3598 unto the deathG2288, binding and deliveringG3860 into prisonsG5438 both menG435 and womenG1135. 5As alsoG2532 the highG749 priestG749 doth bearG3140 me witnessG3140, and all the estate of the elders: from whom alsoG2532 I receivedG1209 lettersG1992 unto the brethren, and journeyed to DamascusG1154 to bringG71 them alsoG2532 that wereG1510 there unto JerusalemG2419 in bonds to beG1510 punished. 6And it cameG1096 to passG1096, that, as I made my journeyG4198, and drew nigh unto DamascusG1154, about noon, suddenlyG1810 there shone from heavenG3772 a great lightG5457 round about me. 7And I fellG4098 unto the ground, and heardG191 a voiceG5456 sayingG3004 unto me, SaulG4549, SaulG4549, whyG5101 persecutest thou me? 8And I answeredG611, Who art thou, LordG2962? And he saidG3004 unto me, I amG1510 JesusG2424 of NazarethG3480, whom thou persecutest. 9And they that wereG1510 with me beheld indeedG3303 the lightG5457, but they heardG191 not the voiceG5456 of him that spake to me. 10And I saidG3004, What shall I do, LordG2962? And the LordG2962 saidG3004 unto me, AriseG450, and goG4198 into DamascusG1154; and there it shall be toldG3004 thee of all thingsG3956 which are appointed for thee to do. 11And whenG5613 I could not seeG1689 for the gloryG1391 of that lightG5457, being led by the hand of them that were with me I cameG2064 into DamascusG1154. 12And oneG5100 AnaniasG367, a devoutG2126 manG435 accordingG2596 to the lawG3551, wellG3140 reported of by all the JewsG2453 that dwelt there, 13cameG2064 unto me, and standing by me saidG3004 unto me, BrotherG80 SaulG4549, receiveG308 thy sightG308. And in that very hourG5610 I lookedG308 up on him. 14And he saidG3004, The GodG2316 of our fathersG3962 hath appointedG4400 thee to knowG1097 his will, and to seeG3708 the RighteousG1342 OneG3588, and to hearG191 a voiceG5456 from his mouthG4750. 15For thou shalt beG1510 a witnessG3144 for him unto all menG444 of what thou hast seenG3708 and heardG191. 16And nowG3568 whyG5101 tarriest thou? ariseG450, and be baptizedG907, and wash awayG630 thy sinsG266, callingG1941 on his nameG3686. 17And it cameG1096 to passG1096, that, when I had returnedG5290 to JerusalemG2419, and while I prayedG4336 in the temple, I fell into a tranceG1611, 18and sawG3708 him sayingG3004 unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of JerusalemG2419; because they will not receiveG3858 of thee testimonyG3141 concerningG4012 me. 19And I saidG3004, LordG2962, they themselves knowG1987 that I imprisoned and beatG1194 in every synagogueG4864 them that believedG4100 on thee: 20and whenG3753 the bloodG129 of StephenG4736 thy witnessG3144 wasG1510 shed, I alsoG2532 wasG1510 standing by, and consenting, and keepingG5442 the garmentsG2440 of them that slew him. 21And he saidG3004 unto me, DepartG4198: for I will send thee forthG1821 farG3112 hence unto the GentilesG1484.
22And they gave him audience unto this wordG3056; and they liftedG1869 up their voiceG5456, and saidG3004, AwayG142 with such a fellow from the earthG1093: for it is not fit that he should liveG2198. 23And as they cried out, and threw off their garmentsG2440, and castG906 dustG2868 into the airG109, 24the chief captain commandedG2753 him to be broughtG1521 into the castle, bidding that he should be examined by scourging, that he might knowG1921 for what causeG156 they soG2443 shouted against him. 25And whenG5613 they had tied him up with the thongs, PaulG3972 saidG3004 unto the centurionG1543 that stoodG2476 by, Is it lawfulG1832 for you to scourge a manG444 that is a RomanG4514, and uncondemnedG178? 26And when the centurionG1543 heardG191 it, he went to the chief captain and toldG3004 him, sayingG3004, What art thou about to do? for this manG444 isG1510 a RomanG4514. 27And the chief captain cameG4334 and saidG3004 unto him, TellG3004 me, art thou a RomanG4514? And he saidG3004, Yea. 28And the chief captain answeredG611, With a greatG4183 sumG2774 obtained I this citizenship. And PaulG3972 saidG5346, But I am a Roman bornG1080. 29They then that wereG1510 about to examine him straightway departedG868 from him: and the chief captain alsoG2532 wasG1510 afraidG5399 when he knewG1921 that he wasG1510 a RomanG4514, and because he had boundG1210 him.
30But on the morrow, desiring to knowG1097 the certainty wherefore he was accusedG2723 of the JewsG2453, he loosedG3089 him, and commandedG2753 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and all the councilG4892 to comeG4905 togetherG4905, and broughtG2609 PaulG3972 downG2609 and setG2476 him before them.
